  1. OK here's a couple we have in my Troop. During Troop meetings, all Scouts will keep their hands to themselves. No hitting, slapping, poking, etc. If a Scout is unable to attend a Troop meeting, he is to contact his PL prior to the meeting to let him know he will be absent. If the PL is unable to attend, he will contact the ASPL. If the ASPL is unable to attend, he will contact the SPL. If the SPL is unable to attend, he will contact the SM. I'm sure most of us have sat on a few Eagle BOR's. How many of those Eagle candidates showed up for their BOR in uniform? I know in my case 100%. Now the BSA doesn't require anyone to own or wear a uniform yet we expect one to be worn. And I am sure some districts & councils require the Eagle candidate to be in full uniform for his BOR. 2. Man nothing like a lobotomy to help you feel better! Now back to the topic - rules. Don't we all require our Scout to wear uniforms? Maybe not all the time & some of us use Troop shirts now and then. Someone correct me if I am wrong but oening a uniform isn't even required to be a member of the BSA. So aren't we all imposing a rule that is not mentioned anywhere? Hello???? Man the voices are back! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  3. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THE VOICES!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
  4. Good point Fat Old Guy. I know in my neck of the woods Eagle candidates can't do their Eagle Service Project for a council camp. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  5. captainron14, The short answer is no. The Eagle rank requires a position of responsibility within the unit. There is no special project option and even if there was, how does being a leader in the church young men's group benefit the unit? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  6. I keep hearing voices!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. OGE, I think you are stuck. My suggestion is to download Real Player & see what you can do with that. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  8. "So the individual scout controls the running not "the troop"." So if the individual scout can't or won't control his running the troop does nothing? Based on what you have posted, Bob, it would seem that way. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  9. Senior_Patrol_Leader_T15, I commend you for the way you handled this situation. By not lowering yourself to her level, you are a better person. I pray you earn your Eagle & if you are ever in my area look me up. I wanna shake your hand. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  10. Based on what I read in the original post it sound like this person just likes to complain. And usually if you tell them to sign up & get trained they shut up. How so we know she is doing a good job? You are assuming that. I have no idea what she expects from the Troop and neither do you. The incidents she sees may be nothing at all. She might just be making a mountain out of a mole mound. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  11. Bob, You might want to re-edit or repost your last post. It is almost unreadable. No harm at all. I just think it should be with the SM as a one on one. She shouldn't be dealing with the Scouts directly. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  12. "If you rely on unit rules to get the results you want from scouting you will never develop leaders, only followers." But if one can't follow effectivly, how can you be an one lead effectivly? Not all Scouts will be leaders. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  13. Eamonn, Good point. But usually, these are the kind of people who won't sign up. They just like to complain. Bob, If she is concerned then she should be talking to the SM in private & not directly to the Scouts. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  14. Rooster & Fat Old Guy, I guess we just haven't given the Scouts enough time to hear their inner voices. OK Lotus position HMMMM. Rules are necessary to keep order. The Scout Law & Oath have nothing to do with order. Bob, You must live in Camelot where the sky is always blue & the grass is always green. Either there or Stepford! My Troop has rules. And there are consequences if those rules are broken. Just like real life! And none of our rules require a Scout to listen to his inner voice! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  15. I'm still waiting for them to hear their inner voice so we won't have to tell them to stop running! What is wrong with hope? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  16. "Before a scout decides to run in camp I want an inner voice to say "is this helpful to others? Is this courteous? Is this being trustworthy?". I trust that a scout will learn to make the right decision if he receives a real scout program, based on teaching inner values not artificial rules." And if their aura if fight they might even help an old lady across the street! Get real! Inner voice? You jave a better chance of an outer voice saying "no running in camp." If you really think a 13 year old Scout is thinking that he shouldn't be running across the campsite when he is in a hurry to go fishing? I doubt it! The Scout will learn to make the correct decision when he realizes he shouldn't be running & why he shouldn't be running. Hopefully he will relate it to the Scout Oath & Law. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  17. Tell her to sign up and get trained or shut up!
  18. To all the vets on this board & elsewhere, thanks from the bottom of my heart. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  19. (the dreaded double post struck again!)(This message has been edited by evmori)
  20. The PLC makes the decision. District/Council events should be considered but if the PLC doesn't want to go, you don't go! I might be wrong but the Troop Committee doesn't approve events the PLC decides to do. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  21. I swear, Bob, your post wasn't there when I posted previously! Rules also change behavior. My daughter just got a speeding ticket. She has slowed down. Change in behavior. Kids run in camp in front behind beside you. They know they shouldn't but they do. And the reason they shouldn't is safety related. Nothing in the Scout Law says a Scout should be safe. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  22. SR540Beaver, Excellent post! Thanks. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  23. Was never a Scout when I was a kid. Too involved in sports. I got involved as an adult when my son joined Cubs. I was a Cubmaster, Webelos Den Leader, Assistant Scoutmaster, Committee Chairman, Scoutmaster, Merit Badge Counselor. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  24. There are benefits to both methods. The decision is up to you. The one thing I wouldn't do is change patrols from one year to the next. Each patrol will develop it's own "life" & needs time to grow. Switching patrols year over year prevents this. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
