  1. NJ, Correct. Troop A is mine. He did the same thing in another thread. However, Bob's description is based on nothing more than visiting my Troop's web site. Mike F, Sort of like the old bait & switch, huh? Ed Mori A blessed Christmas to all! 1 Peter 4:10
  2. ""Ed's" troop by evidence of his own posts does not follow the Patrol method, leadership method, advancement method. The results are obvious in the membership recruitment, retention, and advancement of the troop." Wow you're good! You assume my unit doesn't follow the methods you listed. Again you assume wrong. Like I said in another post, unless you see 1st hand you can't make correct judgement. Your assumptions are completely wrong. Ed Mori A blessed Christmas to all! 1 Peter 4:10
  3. Bob, I never claimed FCFY (using this to save time) was ineffective. I never claimed I did a better job. You assumed this AGAIN! I feel FCFY is redundant. If a unit offers each Scout the ability to advance at their own rate then the unit is doing their job. My unit does this. Not all units fit into your mold. You make broad assumptions. Unless you see what is going on 1st hand your assumptions have no basis. I do know my unit needs work. I am well aware of that. I have been in contact with my UC. But you wouldn't know that because you assume I have no clue what I am doing. Again, you assume wrong. You assume I don't use the Scouting program because I don't embrace FCFY or the NSP. Well, you need Scout to use the program. And since we only have three newer Scouts, the NSP doesn't fit. And like I stated before, my unit offers each Scout the ability to advance at their own rate. I have no desire to prove you wrong since you need to be correct to be proven wrong. And you aren't correct in your assumptions. Ed Mori A blessed Christmas to all! 1 Peter 4:10
  4. Thanks for promoting my Troop, Bob! I owe you one! Accurately portraying a situation would also help. Of the 13 adults you listed, one is deceased, one is in college & one is listed as inactive. One is now living in California but isn't listed as such. Also, the three new Scouts you refer to are still active! Where in any post (other than yours) was it stated: "2 left for sports because sports offered more reward, adventure, activity, and fellowsip than the troop did. 9 to 12 new scouts left because they were not getting the promise of scouting fullfilled at the meetings or activities." You once again made these assumptions and construed them as reality! And once again you are wrong! Ed Mori A blessed Christmas to all! 1 Peter 4:10 (This message has been edited by evmori)
  5. YEs I do have a question - Why didn't you answer my question? Ed Mori A blessed Christmas to all! 1 Peter 4:10
  6. Excellent points. If the Citizenship trio are earned properly, a Scout should know a lot about local, nation & international government. If they don't then it sound like these badges were rubber stamped. Ed Mori A blessed Christmas to all! 1 Peter 4:10
  7. So if a Troop has an active program & doesn't use the 1st Class Emphasis program you are saying they should because it's a BSA program? Ed Mori A blessed Christmas to all! 1 Peter 4:10
  8. "2 left for sports because sports offered more reward, adventure, activity, and fellowsip than the troop did. 9 to 12 new scouts left because they were not getting the promise of scouting fullfilled at the meetings or activities." There you go again. Making up reasons. You must really know this Troop well! Is it in your district? Ed Mori A blessed Christmas to all! 1 Peter 4:10
  9. It isn't about other countries. It's about the USA! The best country in the whole world! Ed Mori A blessed Christmas to all! 1 Peter 4:10
  10. Fat Old Guy, Bob does that all the time. I never quit! "Troop A shows almost every sign of a troop in very bad shape. Quickly diminishing membership Poor new scout retention Assistants outnumbering youth Little to no advancement in over a year No noticeable action to reverse current coarse Failure of leader to recognize problem What has caused these characteristics is unimportant. What matters is that the characteristics exist, and unless they change will result in the collapse of the unit." What caused these charastictics is unimportant? History will repeat itself if we don't learn from it! What caused this is very important! Let's say that of the 10 Scouts who are no longer in the Troop - 3 were in a family that moved away, 2 - turned 18 years old, 2 - from another family opted for sports over Scouting. And let's say that only 3 Scouts joined the Troop in the last 18 months so the retention would be 100%. This puts a whole different look on things. I know Bob won't agree because he knows all & this could never happen in his world. Ed Mori A blessed Christmas to all 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  11. "Ed, your hanging onto illegitimate excuses and avoiding the problem. People moving in or out does not cause an absence of advancement. Nor does moving explain why the other troops have not beem affected." People moving in & out can cause fluctuations in Troop size & this could affect advancement. No one ever said this was the only cause, just one of the causes. "The fact is all this troop does is camp. If it weren't for summer camp they would likely not even have the merit badges they have. It's not that the leaders don't know what to do, they just choose not to do it." I thought this Troop A was a conglomeration of like Troops? Hmmmm. You seem to know alot about this Troop. Must be one in your district! "This is a soon to be dead troop. It's unfortunate anytime a unit folds but its more unfortunate when it didn't have to happen but the leaders allowed it." Nice to see you know so much since the cause has yet to be determined. Oh I forgot, Bob, you know all! Ed Mori A blessed Christmas to all! 1 Peter 4:10
  12. So a Scout can earn the First Class/First Year award whether his Troop uses the 1st Class Emphasis program or not! It seems the 1st Class Emphasis Program is nothing more than another way to helps Troops have an active program. Ed Mori A blessed Christmas to all! 1 Peter 4:10
  13. I have used a version of this at Eagle COR's. Mrs. Red, Please take note of the title of the post! Ed Mori A blessed Christmas to all! 1 Peter 4:10
  14. "Sorry but if families are moving out then families are moving in." Let's assume this is true. In all likelyhood, the families that are moving in have younger children & won't be ready for Boy Scouts for 2-4 years! And what if the famlies that move in have all girls? Ed Mori A blessed Christmas to all! 1 Peter 4:10
  15. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA Loved it!
  16. "In the scouting society we have rules that you as a leader are required to follow." This was posted in another thread. So it seems you DO have to be able to follow to lead! Ed Mori A blessed Christmas to all! 1 Peter 4:10
  17. Oops. I was wrong. 17 max. And I should have stated "3-4 in a year"
  18. "In the scouting society we have rules that you as a leader are required to follow." I thought you didn't have to follow to be a leader? Ed Mori A blessed Christmas to all! 1 Peter 4:10
  19. I glad someone can make such definitive statements without all the facts! "Sorry but if families are moving out then families are moving in." Not true! Someone will move in but not necessarly another family. Yeah, the Scouting program is like an automobile. There are many parts. And they all need to work together. But you don't need your wipers if it isn't raining. And if it isn't dark, you lights don't need to be on. But your wipers & lights are there if you need them! Ed Mori A blessed Christmas to all! 1 Peter 4:10
  20. LauraT7, My Troop has never been larger than 15 Scouts and we have never had more than 3-4 new Scouts peryear. This is the main reason we don't use the NSP. We do have an active program. We meet weekly & camp monthly sometimes more. We also have other outings and some with other Troops in the area. We provide each Scout wit the opportunity to advance at their own rate. If they make 1st Class in 12 to 14 months, great! There are 16 Troops in my district. All are within 10 miles of us. That's alot. We recruit form our CO, local Packs & school district. There are three Troops recruiting from the same school district. Our feeder Pack (Pack 1) recruits from the same school as another pack. Things get very territorial around here. I hope this answers your questions. Ed Mori A blessed Christmas to all! 1 Peter 4:10
  21. One can't answer what to do until you know why they are leaving. If it's a fairly transient community, their families might be moving away. If the community doesn't have a lot of growth and there are 7 Troops in close proximity all vieing for the same kids, this could be a problem. The question of why needs answered before you can address what to do. Horse before the cart so to speak. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  22. Any idea homw many other Troops are within a 10 mile radius of Troop A? The problem could be there is a glut of Troops & not enough kids to go around. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  23. What happened to the membership in Troop A? Since you seem to know, why don't you tell us? Troop B has a massive commmittee! IS that needed? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
