I agree with acco. But I still find it a little odd that a uniform isn't required to be a member. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  3. Adrianvs, Gotta disagree. To a Buddhist, Budda is god. Since this young man has professed publicly there is no god, then his membership needs to be revoked. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  4. I never like these things. Usually the Scouts don't really earn the badges. And like Fat Old Guy said, the Scout's SM must sign his MB card for him to be allowed to work on a MB. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  5. Congrats ManyIrons! I'm a talon you, I'm an Eagle! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  6. What OGE said! Atheists cannot be members of the BSA. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  7. This is simple. They sold the popcorn. They owe the money. Simple. I would follow Eamonn's suggestion. This seems to happen all the time. Parents think this is THEIR money since THEY sold the popcorn. This is where THEY are wrong. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  8. "This is also why NJCubScouter won't bother to explain the first amendment to you; you've been given plenty of opportunities to learn from other people, or on your own, and you simply refuse to learn. And that's why it's pointless to try and engage in any kind of intelligent conversation with you: No I don't refuse to learn. Neither of you has provided anything that shows the 1st ammendment means the church & state must be separate. It is my contention the current interpretation is wrong. Intelligent conversation to you is someone who agrees with you. Not correct. While I am not calling you stupid, your understanding of intelligent conversation is skewed. MarkNoel, You sign all you posts YiS. I assume this means "Yours in Scouting". It is my understanding you were removed from Scouting many years ago. So you YiS is ploy to get everyone to think you are still involved in Scouting? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  9. Sounds like "Be Prepared" and "A Scout is not a fool" are the same thing. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  10. I have no specific case law to cite. My point is nowhere in the Constitution does it state the church and state must be separate. This is an interpretation. And an incorrect one in my opinion. Our forefathers left their home countries for many reasons. One was the freedom of religion. And we are guaranteed the freedom of religion in the 1st Ammendment. And what does this have to do with the BSA loosing (maybe) its $1 lease in BAlboa Park? I'm sure the park rents to other organizations that discriminate. So, Merlyn, take a hike! The only time you show up on this board is to post drivel that isn't even finalized yet! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  11. NJ, Ever think that maybe the court made a mistake in their interpretation of the 1st Ammendment? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  12. "The first amendment forbids the "establishment of religion"" Correct! Not that the church & state should be separate! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  13. Eamonn, Thanks. I resemble that remark. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  14. "Neither is "separation of powers" or "right to a fair trial", but the concepts are there." The 1st Ammendment states the government will not establish a religion. It also states the freedom of religion will not be denied. It also guarantes freedom of speech. Where in the Constitution is the concept of separation of church & state? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  15. "I'm still reading the Constitution and trying to find anything about "separation of church and state."" You can stop reading Fat Old Guy. It isn't in there! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  16. So what happened? The Scouts now must pay for the use of the park like everyone else. Big deal! Sounds like the only winners in this is the city of San Diego. They will see an increase in the amount of park fees collected! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  17. "I have posted before that I enjoy a wide variety of music. The difference between us being that I don't praise it from one side of my face and condemn it from the other side." Your point being what? And where did I do what you posted? One of the finest men I know loved the Beatles music but didn't approve of their lifestyle. That man was my father. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Bob, You never answered. What is your favorite music? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  19. I think manditory training would be a good thing. What's wrong with having the adult volunteers trained to do their job? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  20. ScouterPaul, My district advancement committee maintains an approved merit badge counselor list. When a Scout in my Troop wants to work on a merit badge we look through the list & supply the Scout with the name address & phone number of an approved merit badge counselor from the list. I also write this counselors name on the blue card then sign & date the card. If for some reason this counselor doesn't work out, we look for another one from the list. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  21. ScouterPaul, Why would a SM give a Scout the name of an approved MB counselor? And why wouldn't the Scout use the approved MB counselor he was given by his SM? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  22. "obtain from your SM a signed MB application and the name of a qualified counselor for that MB" it does NOT say that the SM "approves" the counselor." Laura, I don't think anyone ever said the SM approves the counselor. What was said is the if the SM knows an approved MB counselor "rubber stamps" merit badges, he has the option of assigning the Scout the name of another approved MB counselor. And actually, when the SM gives the Scout the blue card, the name of the approved MB counselor could already be on the blue card. OGE, In your example, the Scout gets his merit badge. Whether he actually earned it or not has nothing to do with it. If he didn't the loser here is the Scout. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  23. Start the freezing again. I'm not sure what publication its in (I don't have my Scout stuff with me where I am) but it is written that the Scout obtains the name of an approved merit badge counselor & a signed merit badge card from the SM. So, if the SM doesn't want the Scout(s) to use a certain approved MB counselor he can assign another approved MB counselor! Fat Old Guy didn't mean the SM has approval authority over who will or will not be allowed to be a MB counselor. He meant the SM has the authority to assign an approved MB counselor of his choice. Right Mr. Fat Old Guy? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
