You are correct Mr Boyce. With Merlyn there is no wiggle room when it comes to the BSA.
-
Well, if you have information Eagle732, please share!
-
The easy way around this issues is for the BSA to change their charter method so the charter partner doesn't own the charter. Then all this is moot.

1. While the adult shouldn't have gone postal, the youth did not respect the equipment he was given. Appropriate response by the adult - return it to the youth and explain it should be returned in the same or better shape it was received and tell the youth to bring it back when it is. No yelling required. 2. I don't see this as a big deal. Committees do this all the time. I don't see this as a respect issue. 3. Tough call depending on what the behavior was and what the youth thought appropriate consequences are. It could be the complaint is about snapping towels and the youth feels the appropriate punishment is permanent latrine duty on all campouts and the adults just had a discussion about this with the youth. 4. Yes youth respect is warranted. The committee should be setting the example in this case. 5. Sounds like what my dad use to tell me when I questioned some stuff. This depends on what is being questioned. "because I said so" is never the correct response. 6. The youth, regardless of demeanor, showed disrespect with his comments. That doesn't mean the adult should show the youth the same disrespect. The adult should take the high road & just did nothing. Great questions, Lisa. Thought provoking.

Appropriate discipline for disrespect
evmori replied to 5scoutmom's topic in Open Discussion - Program
My 2 worth - have your son apologize. No point stooping to their level. Rise above it! -
I didn't say bad musicians. I said kids with no musical talent. So because they can't join they are being punished? I didn't know they had a right to join.
-
If a public school operates a club that excludes students based solely on their religious beliefs or disbeliefs, those students are being punished by having a school benefit denied them on those grounds. How are they being punished? Are kids who have no musical talent being punished because they can't join the band?

Ed writes: Your constant comparison to public schools running "No Jews Clubs" or "Jews Only Clubs" is what I was referring to Merlyn. Do you actually have proof ANY public school was running such a club? No Ed, because that's called a "hypothetical example," which I was using as part of an "analogy." Same thing Merlyn! "Jews Only" or "No Jews Clubs" don't exist in public schools.

Nope, wrong again. I've been reading this thread from the beginnin, and I never said that you were or were not on her "side". That's not even relevant to you calling her son her "little angel". In fact, I've known about this sitution long before it was brought to the scouter forum from reading about it on the CC site. True but you did post: Yet, evmori can't make a simple post regarding his take on this matter without slipping in a snide remark toward her. She never once claimed her son was a "little angel". Not every post of mine had a snide remark and if you did read the entire thread you would know that. I was following that thread as well and it appears mdsummer abandoned those folks as well.

How do I feel? Can't wait to prank them back!
-
Yes, Ed, ignoring all of the other rude comments that have been made, you just might be right. Examples, please well-up-in-his-60s-guy. Yet, evmori can't make a simple post regarding his take on this matter without slipping in a snide remark toward her. She never once claimed her son was a "little angel". I was on her side when all this started, cricket, so apparently you failed to read the entire thread making your comment totally invalid. No, she never claimed her son was a "little angel", but she did seem to blame everything on the adults. If that were true, this thread woulda ended eight months ago!

Her post was probably legit but ya wanna bet her little angel did something way more serious than she claimed? And ya wanna bet he never got his Eagle because of that? (corrected a type)(This message has been edited by evmori)

Every time you bring up the No Jewish club line.

Merlyn, You twist and turn stuff more than an Olympic diver!
-
Quite the opposite -- a "straw man" is where someone simply makes up another person's opinion, and attacks that. I'm not going to deny a position someone else has made up for me. Pot meet kettle!

How does your troop handle medication(s)?
evmori replied to Beavah's topic in Open Discussion - Program
At the end of a week at summer camp we toss all the meds in a big bowl & pass it around! Sure makes for an interesting closing campfire -
Right on the money Scoutfish, especially the end part!

I calls 'em as I sees 'em Trevorum. I don't get all flowery. No need when you are staring at goats.

Bad intellectual foundations lead to confusion
evmori replied to Mr. Boyce's topic in Issues & Politics
I would rather have my son a campout with a known homosexual leader than with a leader who doesn't think that a "prank" involving the ingestion of urine requires at the very least suspension of those involved. Lesser of two evils, huh OGE. -
Good definition Barry. And I would like to state that having "Happy Birthday" sung to anyone by the staff at any restaurant is hazing. It is a textbook case of hazing. The older boys didn't even own up to the SM that they were involved. You have multiple victims and several bullies involved. This is a textbook case on how to pull a prank. The older boys didn't own up because they didn't have to! They should have regardless! I agree this was handled poorly but suspension is way over the top.
-
I love it when you talk flowery OGE! Gets me all sweaty! Merlyn is constantly calling the BSA dishonest regarding charters when he knows full well there is culpability on both sides. He even admitted that in one thread yet he refuses to state such. More flowery talk, please!

I guess my question is would you want your son to go camping with a homosexual Scout leader? -
It's not hard getting 100 hours in a project. My concern is the hours become more important than the Scout's leadership ability. Maybe that was National's concern and that the reason they added the verbiage stating there is no time requirement for an Eagle Project.

Background checks / guidelines for participating parents?
evmori replied to Liz's topic in Open Discussion - Program
A failed background check does not mean that a unit can automatically prevent a parent from attending activities with their child. If the unit has a policy in place to not allow this, it sure can happen.
