  1. Our requirements are on our web site if you would like to check them out http://www.bsa.net/pa/t1
  2. Marty, I feel it would be better if there was a general course that covered everything everyone needs to know & then have breakout sessions for the specifics. It would probably be a two to three day course and could be done over three consecutive weekends. I feel there would be more attendees and better trained leaders. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. Well, if not remove them, lock them all. Every one! My thoughts were a clean slate would bring new discussions instead of piggy backing on old ones. And NJ I'm not saying they have no value. They do. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  4. I, for one, would be in favor of Terry removing all the existing threads from Issues & Politics and we start with a clean slate. What does everyone think?
  5. dan, Yep your correct! Dummy me! Well what I meant was you would need a set of rules for Tiger through Bear & keep the current set of rules for Webelos. I can't remember if I said the BSA has too many rules. I might have. I do think there are too many training courses! I think some could be combined. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. mk9750, You are doing the correct thing. The only thing I would do differently is NOT solicit suggestions from the parents. This is like opening Pandora Box! I like the suggestion you posted for the Scouts in question. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. If BALOO is so generic, why isn't it just included in Cub Basic Leader Training? Does it need to be a separate course? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. dan, Don't know why you're surprised! I follow the rules. I might not agree with all of them but I follow them. And the ones I think should be changed, I lobby to change. And there wouldn't need to be a list of rules for each rank. A set of "Den Camping" rules would work. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. I have always had to submit an advancement form & write "duplicate" on it.
  10. I haul my stuff on a briefcase that has entirely too much stuff in it! Once at camp, I relieve the pressure on the case! I could really use a small suitcase! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. dan, I said yes because I feel den camping is just a smaller group than pack camping. Sure you would need rules for each rank. The BSA has never had a problem with writting new rules. Plus, this would give everyone the chance to experience camping trips. Why should a den in a pack suffer because the rest of the pack only wants to camp once a year when they would like to camp three times a year? Currently dens can't camp by themselves. I would like to see that changed so they can. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. spider, The main reason I asked was my son (an Eagle) and daughter are both deaf and rely or relay to make & receive phone calls. Use of this system by people in the manner this kid used it is outright wrong! It ties up relay operators who's time would be better spent on a call with someone who really needed the system. Being all the craze at the high school doesn't make it right. The relay operator has an ID number & probably told your son what it was he answered the call. I better shut up now before I post something that will get me in trouble. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  13. Once again, acco, you are right on the money! Excellent suggestion! Bravo! Wish I would have thought of it! I will have to remember this if it come up in my unit. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. I must be blessed. We have never had a problem of this magnitude in our Troop. It's time to have a SM conference with this lad to explain to him what Scouting is all about. And to explain the rules. Perhaps printing out the section from the G2SS that deals with bullying would be a good idea. I would also have a chat with the parents & advise them that this type of behavior is unacceptable. spider, Why the use of a TTY? Is this son or your son hearing impaired? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. Vote here: The Den Campout rule should be amended to allow for a conditional Den overnighter? YES Dan, Why the no vote? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. Eagle gives sound advice. The other thing to do might be to have the SPL decide between the current PL's who should be SPL & ASPL for summer camp. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. SMT376, Please keep us informed as to what happens. I like the way you handled the situation. You are correct he does have enough time to finish the requirements. Good luck! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. I think it was Henry Mancini who penned "Love is a Many Splendid Thing"
  19. With all this banter we still have no answer as to why dens can't go camping but packs can. Bob White won't see this since he has banished me so I don't expect an answer from him. Man O Steele -if you are lurking would you be able to shed some light on this? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  20. acco40, Excellent advice! Top notch! Atta boy! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  21. I think I know the reason we don't have an answer. No one know the answer! Bear & Wolf den camping is not hard to pull off. The numbers are more managable then Pack camping. It's Me, The stars are gone so you don't need to worry. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  22. I agree with OGE (I made a rhyme!). If this kids earned 41 merit badges I think someone other than him & his mom would know that. And the council and his old Troop should have a record of this. Is it possible a neighboring council has the records? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  23. NJ, Nice job on the stats! And in the great words of the TV sage "Life's tough. Get a helmet."
  24. Death cometh when life endeth!
