  1. Merlyn, Would you fight as hard if it was the KKK & not the BSA? I don't know, Merlyn. If the KKK was doing the same thing the BSA is doing, I think it would be OK. And if black people wanted to bring suit to stop them, they could. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. Hunt, You make a valid argument but if I recollect it wasn't the city who filed the lawsuit. It filed by someone who didn't realize the excellent work & tons of cash the BSA saved the city by maintaining this piece of property. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. Eliminate the voting method. Try to get some people from your district (DE, Activities chair, UC, etc.) to come to your Pinewood and judge these categories. Make sure the cars are not identified in any way with the Cubs/Webelos during the judging. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  4. The only requirements that count of course, are ones in a published Merit Badge book. On-line information amy seem handy but it is not official. The Scout or the Counselor must have a BSA publication with the set of requirements that the scout is using. From my understanding, this is not true. Additionally, from the Advancement Committee Policies & Procedures: The steps to follow in the merit badge program are outlined in the current Boy Scout Requirements. Merit badge books are not required to complete a merit badge. They are a resource to be used in completion of the badge. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. It is encouraging the DOJ feels the BSA is worth standing up for! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. eisely, My council service center does this, too. But I must agree with Fat Old Guy. While two signatures is good for security it can be a pain if one of the two isn't around. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. I have worked at the same place in the private sector since I started in Scouting & I have never had any trouble getting off early for Scouting stuff. My current boss is great about it. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. If I'm not mistaken, if there have been changes to a merit badge & the pamphlet isn't out but the requirements book has the changes, the changes apply. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. We have a standard business checking account. We are never charged if a check we deposit bounces. As far as having the checks made payable to the Scouts, I have never heard of that! All checks we collect for ANYTHING are made payable to the Troop! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. Makes sense, dan. Thanks Bob White, Huh? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. I would get a copy of what the SM wrote up for the position & then compare what the Scout has actually done to the requirements. And the copy I would get is the one the Scout has. What you find would determine your course of action. If the Scout didn't complete the requirements the SM assigned to the position, then I would not recommend he pass his BOR. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  12. So we call them Class A and Class B or Field uniform and Activity uniform. As long as we know what we are refering to, what's the difference? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. What I don't like about the popcorn (besides the price) is the return. We only get 39% of total sales. And I understand this varies council to council. The Troop can sell hoagies and make 50%. I know the council benefits from the popcorn sale but the Troop cut should be higher. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. Sedna is the mythical Inuit Goddess of the sea. Or Andes spelled backwards! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. I would not cancel a whole campout because on Scout is disruptive. I would deal with the disruptive Scout in a fitting way & let the campout continue. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. mk9750, Sounds like it went well! Good job! Way to stick to your guns. I commend the dad for making the necessary arrangements to be there for George. The only problem I can see is when the mom's get their son's alone. Stories have a tendency to change & you could get some calls! Good job! Keep up the good work! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. Matua, It seems like a lot of work for a minimal return. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. wingnut, I know what you mean. There are times when our Scouts tell us the same thing. We will go observe & then if we feel the Scout is correct, we will address the situation with the program director. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. Actually, according to the SM handbook, the SM is the one who assigns the MB counselor. So if the name on the card is different than the one he assigned then the SM or advancement chairman needs to make sure this MB counselor is registered for that badge! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. If they don't know where to go we show them once then they are expected to get there on their own. If they don't want to go to their merit badge classes they can go home. The Scout is getting his money's worth by being able to use all the camp facilities. We are not going to babysit all week. As adults, we will help out where ever the camp staff needs us. And if they don't naps! As a matter of fact, there is an Adult Merit Badge that we can earn each year and one of the requirements is to take a nap! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. I feel this is an individual choice. I don't like ponchos but I carry one all the time as a back-up. I have a rain coat that I wear. All it takes is to get caught one time without your rain gear & most don't forget the next time. I always tell the Troop no matter when we are camping bring rain gear. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. He He He He he I was laughing when I read the title!
  23. We don't give out rank badges until the paperwork has been filed at council. As a matter of fact, I am doing that today for one Scout. We also have a stash of badges but not for the purpose of instant recognition. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  24. The stars were neat but really unnecessary. I vote to not have them.
