  1. Actually Meryln, you dodged my question as usual.(This message has been edited by evmori)
  2. So if the Scout completed none of the requirements for a merit badge and has a signed blue card from a registered MB counselor for the badge did he "earn" it? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. Once again, Merlyn dodges! He's good at that!
  4. Scouter Paul, There is only one God.
  5. No Merlyn again you are in error. I realized what you were quoting. And it IS a fact the USA IS "One Nation, Under God". You got proof otherwise? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. If the Scout "earns" the merit badge by completing all the requirements, no problem. If the Scout is "given" the merit badge without completing all the requirements, problem. A merit badge is "earned" not "given". Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. Nice try, Merlyn. Good scenarios but in no way accurate. What part of "One Nation Under God" is not a fact? The USA is one nation and we are all under God whether you believe in God or not! Just a statement of fact! And don't forget, "In God We Trust" is on our currency! And I guess we can't sing "God Bless America" at any government sponsored event. NOT! This is America, Land of the Free, not the former USSR! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. NJ, You are correct. Thanks. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. Another victory for the good guys. Wonder what Merlyn thinks of this? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. Thanks for all your work Terry! I was at Beaver Day this weekend & when I came home & couldn't post I thought it might be a server problem.
  11. The leaders have cell phones and we tell the Scouts they are considered electronic devices & therefor are not allowed. There are also pay phones at camp. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. Don't wanna be a killjoy but what did Reagan do that was so great? Aren't we still paying for his" Trickle Down" economics? Didn't he trade arms for hostages then deny it? And let's not forget Star Wars! OK the Wall came down but that had nothing to do with him! He just happened to be president when it happened. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. I think the key word here is "earned". If a MB counselor gave a Scout a signed completed blue card & the Scout didn't complete all the requirements, the Scout didn't "earn" the badge, it was "given" to him. If this happened to a Scout in my Troop, the badge would not be awarded until it was "earned". Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. The Trust Fall is one of the coolest parts of C.O.P.E. And mom is a loon! You handled the situation well! The Scout will probably love it! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. Anyone else having trouble with the info in their profile going blank? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. hops, An Eagle from my Troop did a similar project for a municipal field. 1st he found out what they wanted done then wrote up the project & got it approved. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. We use the 2 wash pan method with sani tablets in the rinse pan. We still use fire buckets at each tent. There is a fire barrel at the latrine but is a tent caught fire, it would be gone by the time someone got to the fire barrel & back. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Eamonn, Don't know when they changed. Could have been with the merger of Allegheny Trails & East Valley. Yes my WB was with Greater Pittsburgh. It was the 1st course held at Twin Echo. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. Since there seems to be no definition of "actively serve" in any official BSA material, I would say it is adding to the requirements. But if this is true, how does one measure "actively serve" withing the BSA guidelines? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. Eamonn, NE-V-120 course in 1995. Eagle Patrol! And yes there is something to be learned from this. What it seems some posters have missed is the Scout in question wasn't told to do something until he refused to participate in a planned activity. We don't know if he knew this was planned for this camping trip or not. Ha Ha HA, Would you help us out here with more information? Thanks Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. Were they trained or just thrown into the job? Probably just thrown into the job. Remember, we are talking about 11 year olds who probably only have at most 1 year in the Troop Were they elected by their peers so that they had some "validation"? Probably. They won the popularity contest. Were they given extra guidance? One would hope. But extra guidance doesn't guarantee success. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. Eamonn, From what I gathered from Ha Ha Ha's original post was this was a planned activity during the camping trip and all Scouts presents were expected to participate. The Scout in question was being downright disrespectful and disobedient to all authority figures. Regardless of the style of leadership used, this Scout would not respond positively. How do I respond to being told to do something? Unless it is illegal, immoral or will do me harm, I would do what I was told to do. That doesn't mean I won't ask question about what I am told to do. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. What a great discussion! I think we all agree we can't add or subtract from the requirements. But, since the BSA doesn't define active why can each individual unit? If Scout A makes it a point to get to all the Troop meetings and outings and Scout B shows up ONLY when he doesn't have football practice or something else to do which one is active? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  24. Neilup, Realize one thing - Bob White is (in his opinion) ever wrong. You are fighting a loosing battle. How can one actively serve and not be an active member? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
