What happens to the rest of the $$$ over the $40 annual dues per Scout? Does it go to cover Pack expenses for the remainder of the year? No, actually if you take the youth protection and basic training offered to all adult memebers it tells you to put youth together in a tent, and the male adults together in another tent. This really insn't rocket science. You never tent a scout by himself, Remember the "Buddy System"? And if the other Cubs want to tent with their parent or guardian what do you do then? So little Billie want to go on the Pack campout & his mom & dad can't go so Grandpa Charlie says he will take the lad! Then little Billie finds out he can't sleep in the same tent with Grandpa Charlie and has to sleep all alone in his own tent. Little Billie is all upset & cries himself to sleep & decides to quit Cubs because of this! To me, legal guardian is the adult responsible for the youth in his/her charge. If it happens to be Grandpa Charlie for this camping trip, so be it! As long as mom and dad are OK with Uncle Charlie & little Billie sleeping in the same tent, so am I. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Most kids are raised by their parents. Those that have no parents are raised by a guardian. Those are the only adults kids are permitted to sleep with. There is no such thing as a "guardian for the camping trip". Sure there is! The "guardian for the camping trip" is the adult responsible for the Cub in his/her charge. Good question about the big family tents. The only difference from a cabin I can see the type of material each is made from. Is the grandfather the parent? Is the brother the parent? Is another kid's father the parent? Boys may not sleep with any adult except their own parent. If the grandfather or 19 year old brother is the kid's guardian for the camping trip then either can sleep in the same tent with the kid. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

I just stumbled on this thread! First of all, don't expect much real help from the district. Not true. My district is a great help! They may send in a commissioner who will be pleased to offer a great deal of advice but isn't going to get involved in the real work. Again not true. Being a UC currently dealing with a Pack who has Cubs but lacks leadership I can tell you I am doing a lot to keep this Pack going. Ultimately they are going to tell you "it isn't our unit" and leave it to the CO to straighten out. WOW! Sounds like paper commissioners! That's not much help if the CO/COR is a big part of the problem. Usually, the COR is unaware there is a problem! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

It isn't discrimination to tell public schools that they can't discriminate, and public schools can't teach that believing in gods is preferable to not believing in gods. It IS discrimination to not allow a public school to charter a Scout unit and allow a Jewish or 7th Day Adventist or Catholic or KKK or any other group to use the their facilities!
