  1. I would agree with Eamonn. Group dynamics doesn't apply to this forum. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. Excellent! Would you mind if I copied that for use at future Eagle COH's? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. Eamonn, What I meant was since I haven't been to the 21st Century Woodbadge course I can't comment on it. But I have read about and participated in group dynamic workshops. I don't take shots. Just my opinion. I am sorry if these seem like shots to you. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  4. Apology accepted, Bob. Nice about face, too!
  5. Ed thank you for your concern, but my brother is doing just fine. In fact he has retained 100% of his kids for the last three years. An feat some Scoutleaders do not do in 9 months. Cheap shot, Bob! I think I deserve an apology.
  6. Ed, it has everything to do with group dynamics. You are correct, that is how 3 year olds behave. We know that. Why is that? Why those behaviors take place is explained in the team dynamics model. Why does a 3 year old behave like that? I don't have that answer and I'm sure neither does group dynamics. Dr. James Dobson has written many excellent books on raising children & families. I suggest your brother & his wife pick up a book or two of his. He also is the founder of Focus on the Family. He is excellent! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. If, as Ed says, a Patrol of 6 is "too small", then is it the consensus of this forum that a patrol of 5 is unable to function as a Patrol? If a Troop is a gathering of Patrols as the Scouting program says it is...what about a troop with only one patrol, is it really a troop or is it just one patrol? What if that one patrol only has 5 boys in it, can it be a functioning unit of any kind? I am curious as to the consensus on this as well. Where did I say a patrol of 6 is "too small"? I don't think anyone has said a patrol of 5 is too small. I think we all have sort of agreed a patrol between 8-10 is a good size. And actually the discussion is about what we think the optimum patrol size is not what is too small or too large. If a Troop only has 5 or 6 Scouts they can function as a patrol and the Troop would only have one patrol. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. If you need group dynamics to helps you understand small children and families, then I think it's time to step away from the books & get back to the real world. Most three year olds will react that way! It has nothing to do with group dynamics! It has everything to do with the way three year olds react and the way the parents handle it! It's called family not group dynamics! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. Having more members just for the sake of having more members makes no sense! If they are active great! If they aren't then it's pointless~
  10. Actually, someone posted it earlier that only a certain number of those eligible could be elected. Now all who are eligible can be elected. That seems to be where the problem lies. It has sort of turned into a numbers game. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. It seems the purpose of this thread to justify ones behavior on this board not group dynamics! Interesting! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. Strawberry Switchblade, If you liked the Liberty ceremony, you should have seen the way it was done 10 years ago! Fantastic! And you are correct. The other camp is named Freedom. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. Count the number who get tapped out each year while you are at summer camp. Then attend an OA function in your lodge. Do the numbers at these functions increase dramatically? Ed Mori Troop 1 Peter 4:10
  14. Poking & whacking? Not good. Sounds like he needs a SM conference explaining that if his behavior doesn't improve (be specific)he will advance no further. BTW, does this Scout have any medical conditions? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. I can assure everyone, Bob White and I are NOT the same people. Now back to your regular post! A patrol of 8 is a good size. Not to large and large enough to still function without a few members. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. Thanks for straightening me out dan. Barry, You are one insightful dude! Backpacker, Would love to split a pot of joe over a campfire with you! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. Sounds like basic problem solving with different terminology!
  18. Since I haven't taken the 21st Century Woodbadge, I can't comment! But there doesn't seem to be much interest in this topic. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. Where did you get your numbers from, Bob? And if your conversation is ONLY with ps56k, I suggest you PM him. Then you two can talk alone. Otherwise, I am just as entitled to post here as you are. I would PM this to you but the last time I PM'd you it ended up here so I figured why waste the time. You can't see past your books to answer the question posed! Active is not well defined by the BSA. Maybe they wanted it that way to allow for flexibility. I don't know. What I do know is I do follow the BSA program. I just don't follow the Bob White program. If you don't like my posts, Bob, block them! Scouter Terry, I apologize for this tirade and will accept whatever restrictions you dole out. I will not sit by and be ridiculed for no reason. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. Actually the G2SS states: A Webelos Scout may participate in overnight den camping when supervised by an adult. In most cases, the Webelos Scout will be under the supervision of his parent or guardian. It is essential that each Webelos Scout be under the supervision of a parent approved adult. Joint Webelos dentroop campouts including the parents of the Webelos Scouts are encouraged to strengthen ties between the pack and troop. Den leaders, pack leaders, and parents are expected to accompany the boys on approved trips. I'm still looking for the words "legal guardian" Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. The BSA doesn't actually define "active". It is left open to interpretation. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. Bob, Boy did you miss the point of Barry's post! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. Don't see the words "legal guardian". However, I do see the words "parent approved adult" which means if little Johnny wants to tent with Uncle Billy & Uncle Billy has a note from little Johnny's parents stating it's OK then they can tent together! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
