  1. "And so far no one has given an example." I'm not trying to beat a dead horse but there were examples given, Bob. You dismissed them because they didn't fit into your definitions. This entire thread seems self serving and pointless! And if you can't define how success in the program is measured, then you can't define when it fails. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. Tweaking the program and adding requirements are not necessarily the same thing. Mixed age patrols is tweaking the program. Adding requirements is forbidden by the BSA. If one is tweaking the program by adding requirements then that is a violation of BSA policy. Mixed age patrols is not a violation of any BSA rule, reg or policy. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. "Until then you have a responsibility to your charter organization, the BSA, and most of all to the youth to do what you said you would do and lead a BSA Scouting program." And we all do. Just not the same way you do, Bob. Thanks OGE. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  4. 62 posts later and still no one can give an example of using the program and it failing to work for them in their position. 62! There have been examples given. They just don't fit your definition of the program failing. And until you can define how success is measured, you can't determine where the program failed. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. Eamonn, Being a parent, I know what you are going through. If you have that many doubts, then I say go with your gut & the answer is No. Usually your gut is correct. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. I think the same question applies on this thread - How do you measure the success of the program?
  7. So the question of "How do you measure the success of the program?" has yet to be answered.
  8. Just for the record, I feel, no, I know OGE & hops are doing an excellent jobs as moderators. Thanks, guys!
  9. To know if something works you have to be able to measure it. How do you do that, Bob? How do you, Bob White, measure if the program works? Your previous answer was not a measurement. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. This is a BIG trap, Bob! No matter what anyone posts you will dismiss it as not on topic or spin it to prove it wrong even if it isn't! Let me ask you - How do you measure if the program works? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. You're fighting a losing battle! According to Bob, the BSA is never wrong and his interpretation of what the BSA says & does is always correct! This thread is a set up! Run away! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. Bob, Answer the question! It's Me isn't off topic. The poster is just trying to get a handle on what you are looking for since no one can figure it out! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. WOW! Sounds like someone dropped the ball! I pray the Pack gets their money back. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. Bob, Who ever questioned whether the program works or not? I would think since the BSA has been around since 1910 the program works! Still don't see the point of this thread? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. Doesn't make any difference, Bob. If a group of friends want to play paint ball, if they do it just as friends, they can even if they happen to be in the same Pack/Troop. The BSA doesn't control our everyday lives outside of Scouting. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. Is the point of this thread to validate the BSA program? Some posters have given excellent answers & have been told "doesn't apply". Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. mich632, A verbal insult can be tough to define. And what might be a verbal insult to you might not be a verbal insult to me. That's probably why the BSA doesn't define it and leaves it open to interpretation (like many other things) by the leaders. You will have to be the one making the call since you are the one who is there & can see the reactions 1st hand. I'm not trying to dodge the question, but there isn't really a hard & fast answer. Like I posted before, OGE had an excellent response! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Meet age requirements: Be a boy who has completed the fifth grade and be at least 10 years old, or be 11 years old, or have earned the Arrow of Light Award and be at least 10 years old, and be under 18 years old. 10 years old is the minimum age.
  19. A minimum age of 10 years old has been established.
  20. If we only got two new Scouts I would integrate them into existing patrols and if a patrol diminished to only two Scouts I would do the same. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. What can be gained? Sometimes free or cheaper admission fees to attractions. I know in Niagara Falls Scouts in uniform get a discounted price at most attractions! A Scout is thrifty! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. maddog has a good point but there are some who are of the school attendance doesn't equal Scout Spirit! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. acco, That's exactly what I meant. And, no, OGE, I don't think it's useless. The school district I live in requires x hours of community service for graduation. They offer such things like helping the band load instruments, sweep the gym, etc. so the kids can meet the requirement. Part of community service (to me) is finding it! If it's handed to you then it is useless. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  24. While service hours and merit badge requirements aren't mutually exclusive, I feel they should not cross. Service hours for rank should be used for service to others without being required for anything else. And I think community service is very important. I feel, however, school districts requiring community service for graduation cheapen community service. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
