Yes, how diabolical for the ACLU to hold the US military to the constitution and treat everyone equally, regardless of their religious views. I can see how such a view would be unpopular with some of the people here. How is not allowing the US military to charter BSA units holding them to the Constitution? We as adult leaders must set the example. We need to be in full uniform when necessary. That is part of the problem. The other part is the BSA doesn't require anyone to own let alone wear the uniform to be a member. I feel if you change this, you will see more Scouts and Scouter's in full uniform. I gotta agree with the "not everyone is a leader" statement. Sure leadership can be taught but not every Scout wants to learn it! Nor should they have to to succeed in Scouting. There are POR's that don't require leadership. And there is nothing that states a Scout must be a PL or ASPL or SPL to advance. Not all Scouts are leaders. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

I don't see how this affects you, or the unit you serve, or the charter organization you belong to, or how it affects the Troop's program in any way. It sounds like this Scout hasn't completed his POR requirement for rank. And if he really wants to "earn" this rank, he should be willing to complete the requirement. Remember, we can't add or subtract from the requirements and if this Scout is "given" his rank, that is a violation of the advancement policy. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

If he isn't there, he can't perform his POR. And no we are not charged with tracking down the missing from our Troops & Packs. We need to be there for the Scouts who are there. And considering he is a Troop Guide, he can't complete his POR without being there! Sure he came back. But why? From the posts it sound like he is getting the Troop information & realized he didn't "get" his rank yet & decided to "show up" so he could "get" his rank. Sounds like the troop leaders (SPL,ASPL, New scout patrol ASM) failed to do there job, and now you are placing the blame on the troop guide. dan, How did you determine this? I really don't see how he could have fulfilled his POR (Troop Guide) if he is rarely there. Also, has he completed his service hours requirement? Has he had his SM Conference? Advancement for this Scout at this time I would say is iffy at best. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Sit and listen world? Spectators until you make them participants? This isn't the '50's! Father Knows Best isn't a top ten show anymore! Kids will participate in whatever interests them. No one has to make them participants! Sit and listen? Scouting doesn't demand commitment like sports or band or acting does. Scouting is sort of just there as an extra curricular activity for kids to participate in if they want to. Should there be more commitment? Sure! But getting that commitment is a tough thing to do. Then you give us your interpretation of what it means and how we are doing it wrong based on your interpretation! That's a little more than just sharing what's in the BSA manuals. My reference to your typos was actually an attempt to help you make your posts readable! There is a free program called ieSpell you can download. Google it. It works like a charm & only takes seconds to use. Wasn't taking shots. Just trying to help. Since you have never made any changes to the delivery of the BSA program you must think the program need no changes. Therefore you must think the program is perfect!
