  1. I like it! And if this course is upgraded it could be used by orienteering clubs for competitions of practice! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. So if a Troop goes camping they should do something out of the campsite? What if they don't? Are they still camping? I don't agree. Hiking, biking & rappelling are all great activities! But they shouldn't be required as part of the camping MB. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. No Bob. No personal attacks. Just observations from you posts. Now, care to comment on the theme of this thread? Do you think requiring hiking or rappelling or biking as part of the camping merit badge is correct? If so, why and visa versa. Your opinion, Bob. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  4. Bob, And since you don't know the reason why there was a decline, you really can't comment on the reason. All you can do is assume like you always do. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. So it is OK for public schools to discriminate because a public school isn't a person? That clears things up! boleta, Now where in the Constitution does it state the church and state must be separate. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. Bob, I already told you what camping is. Can't you read? And just because the BSA added these requirements to the MB, doesn't mean they were correct! Remember the changes to the swimming MB awhile back? The BSA changes them back when there were tons of complaints about them! Like a said before, if the BSA required tap dancing as part of the camping MB, you would think that's OK! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. Sounds like all that ended up happening here was nothing! Once again Merlyn didn't disclose all the facts of the case or even know what they were! Shouldn't surprise anyone! I would chalk this one up as a win for the BSA! Wonder what the ACLU will try next! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. OK so a public school owns and operates a BSA unit. According to Merlyn, that is in violation of the 1st Amendment because the BSA legally discriminates. But doesn't the 1st Amendment also deal with the freedom OF religion? So by not allowing a public school to own a BSA unit, is that in violation of the freedom OF religion? Merlyn will probably not answer this because he thinks I am an idiot so that gives him the right to dismiss my questions. Typical ACLUer. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. Yes the main point is to show leadership. And if a Scout is handed a project with all the stuff but the work done, doesn't this limit the leadership the Scout can show? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. Well, that explained it! Camping is more than sleeping in a tent or other shelter. If that's all it is to you I think you need a refresher course on camping! Camping is organizing the site in the best manner, setting up the tents (if used), unloading the gear, setting up the gear, stowing the gear that doesn't get set up, foraging for wood for the fire, getting the fire started, etc. Hiking, biking, rappelling, etc. can be done as part of a camping trip but in no way should they be required for the merit badge. One doesn't have to camp to go hiking nor does one have to hike to go camping! I would thing, Bob, that if the BSA required a Scout to learn to tap dance while on a camping trip you would think that would be OK. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. The ACLU has fought for some good causes. And the Skokie case is a classic 1st Amendment case. And I know the ACLU only files these suits on behalf of others. But I gotta believe they do go looking for people to file do they can further their war on the BSA. They are ticked off they lost the high profile Dale case and they want revenge! This BSA/military case has nothing to do with the Constitution! It's all about the ACLU wanting to bury the BSA. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. Tell these people by doing what they are doing is subtracting from the requirements which is against BSA policy and these projects will no longer be submitted for approval! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. It would be nice if the ACLU defended the Constitution. However, I don't see where the violation is! Sounds like a vendetta to me! Thanks for your support, Bill! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. unc, You're missing the point! It's called selective persecution! The ACLU has a vendetta for the BSA & will stop at nothing to destroy it! Doesn't make any difference what value the BSA has or that the military can discriminate based on sexual orientation. The ACLU doesn't have an axe to grind with the military! The ACLU claims to be a defender of the Constitution. It would be real nice if they actually read & understood the document before they tried to defend it! Typical of an ACLUer. Declare the person questioning your motives inept therefore eliminating the need to address their valid question. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. Check at Sams, Costco, WalMart. Or try any restaurant supply house. We got a bottle of them last time at WalMart! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. As for the Camping merit badge... what difference does it make if they list 6 or 60 options, you still only need to do two? Excellent point, Bob ! But what does hiking or rappelling or bike riding or backpacking have to do with camping? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. I'm not Tom Cruise and you sure aren't Jack Nicholson! Answer it for the benefit of the rest of the board, Merlyn. Or maybe you just can't. Wouldn't be the 1st time! Typical of an ACLUer. Declare the person questioning your motives inept therefore eliminating the need to address their valid question. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Merlyn, Billy Joel wrote a song that describes you to a T! The title is "Angry Young Man". If you haven't heard it you should give a listen. How anyone can justify the removal of BSA charters from military bases is beyond me. The DOD has chaplains on the payroll! Your tax dollars, Merlyn, help pay these people! Plus, the BSA is a federally chartered organization! The military discriminates against gays! Maybe your tax dollars shouldn't support the military at all because they discriminate! You won't answer my question because you can't, Merlyn. Typical of an ACLUer. Declare the person questioning your motives inept therefore eliminating the need to address their valid question. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. Thanks NJ. I know it has been interpreted. And my opinion is it has been interpreted incorrectly. I will never back down from that! So now that the ACLU seems to successfully gotten the US government to stop chartering BSA units, when will they go after them to stop sponsoring them? I know this is a legal hair splitter but the ACLU is great st splitting hairs the way they see them! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. Try this: find item, hunt down kid, return item, remind boy to be courteous by saying thank you (if necessary). Lost & found box remains empty. Sounds like that is what anarchist has been doing! And the results are the Scouts continue to forget/lose items! Apparently this isn't working! At least they are being taught manners! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. NJ, My answer is the DOD already has another plan in the works to keep BSA units on military bases. Where there is a will there is a way! And BTW, when did congress enact that law that the ACLU states was violated? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. And what drudgery it is to have to keep cleaning up after irresponsible Scouts who are not friendly, courteous or kind. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. Not everyone can be trained to be an athlete? Everyone can receive athletic training but that doesn't make them an athlete! Everyone can receive leadership training but that doesn't make them a leader. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  24. This is sort of like rewards kids for expected behavior! I don't like it! It detracts from those who earned an award. In real life, not everyone gets something! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
