  1. SR540Beaver, Webelos are not allowed to participate in Boy Scout camporees! This use to be a great recruiting tool for us, too, till National said we couldn't do it anymore! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  2. We do 3 camporees per year in my district - Fall, Winter & Spring. They are planned out well ahead of time & the dates & locations are published at the beginning of each calendar year. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. Let's see. Buddhists pray to Buddha. They build temples to him. They have statues of him in their places of worship. And, NJ, if you mean those facts presented are the interpretation that by the military chartering BSA units promotes discrimination then yes you are correct, I don't see the connection. This is nothing more than persecution of the BSA. If it wasn't the ACLU would be working just as hard to get "In God We Trust" off our currency, removing chaplains and banning the swearing of any public office on the bible. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  4. Atheist - One who disbelieves or denies the existence of a God, or supreme intelligent Being. Seems to me a Buddhist doesn't fit this definition nor would any religion that worships another being. Merlyn, I've seen black people say they are white, too! Just because they do doesn't make it true! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. Merlyn, Think you better look up atheist in the dictionary again! A Buddhist can't be an atheist! They believe in a higher being! Military chaplains are there primarily for their denomination. They can refuse to be a chaplain for another denomination Interesting that a proclaimed atheist isn't even sure what he is! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. SR540Beaver, Good post but the ACLU still has it out for the BSA. And unless they go after go after all I mentioned in my previous post they are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites who want to destroy the BSA. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. By chartering a BSA unit endorses the BSA not religion. The religious implication is a real stretch! And you could argue that by not sponsoring a BSA unit the government would be discriminating based ON religion! If the ACLU is going to go this route they better get "In God We Trust" off all the currency, stop the President & other elected officials from swearing their oath on a bible & make sure the menorahs are removed from ALL public buildings & grounds along with all the Christian symbols! Including Christmas trees! If they don't then they are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. No difference Merlyn! The chaplains are paid by taxpayer money and therefore according to your views the government is endorsing religion! The ACLU selects what they want to attack & they do. That's what I meant by selective prosecution. I should have worded it selective persecution! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. The ACLU defends their interpretations of the Constitution. Nothing more. Now a public park funded with government money must allow baptisms in their park because they were stomping on religious freedom! And that differs from letting the military charter BSA units how??????? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 (This message has been edited by evmori)
  10. It's called selective prosecution! The ACLU won't go after the military about the chaplain's but they will go after the BSA in anyway they can! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. gungho4scouts, Cubs can carry knives! Just not while they are Cub Scouting unless they have earned their Whittling Chip! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. Our camping trips usually cost between $10-$15 per Scout. If there are a lot of adults going, we will get our own food. If not, we eat the same food the Scouts eat! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. Wrong again Merlyn! Principle means a lot to me! However, my principles are the exact opposite of yours. And that in itself is a blessing! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. And your response is similar to people who fight against ACLU lawsuits to remove the ten commandments from government property, and then (after it's moved across the street to private property), point to how nothing has changed. You've missed the whole point of the lawsuit, which is to remove the improper government sponsorship. Spin it any way you want Merlyn! The ACLU ends up looking like the class bully in this one! The BSA loses nothing! You and the ACLU gained only bad press! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. Face it Merlyn, you and the ACLU won nothing in this battle! The BSA comes out of this misguided attack stronger and with more support! Thanks! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  16. A blessed and happy Thanksgiving to all!
  17. But the BSA will look hypocritical for dishonestly chartering thousands of packs & troops to public schools; not good for an organization that purports to promote honesty. When the ACLU challenges those, all those packs & troops will have to find new chartering orgs. Since the chartering organization is the one who "owns" the unit, they would be the dishonest ones not the BSA! The BSA will have no trouble finding organizations to sponsor units. The ones looking like fools in all this is the ACLU! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. OGE, Are you talking about the Royal Rangers? http://royalrangers.ag.org/ Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. NJ, Yep 2 wrongs don't make a right but there are times the 2 wrongs aren't even wrong! My mom made great chocolate chip cookies! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. OK OGE. You're right. I guess my Troop hasn't been camping all the time since we don't always leave the campsite! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. Bob, So camping without leaving the campsite isn't camping! Even if the newer Scouts work on their requirements & the older Scouts work on their lashings and all the patrols participate in a cooking demo! WOW! I didn't know a unit had to leave the campsite to go hiking or biking or rappelling for it to be camping! Would you please post your sources for your definition of camping? Thanks Now as to your question - my responsibility as a commissioner is to support the policies & procedures of the BSA. Now care to answer my last question? Thanks Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. Silly to support the BSA? How is that silly! That's a good thing! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. What would the 200 member of the national advancement committee disagree with me on? And I know this sound silly but Bob, answer my questions & I will answer yours. You seem to answer questions by asking another one. Bad form. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  24. PS: Does anyone else see the irony in an avowed atheist opining as to the duties and responsibilities of a military chaplain? Merlyn is always opining about stuff he has little knowledge of! Why would this stop him! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
