  1. Backpacker, Thanks for looking out for me but I'm not being baited. I am a willing participant. Merlyn, Since your list seems to be flawed, your credibility is too! Your stats are inflated by your inability to correctly put together a list of public schools chartering BSA units! It is not my or anyone else's responsibility to correct your mistakes. It is yours! And you will probably sluff it off like you do every time someone points out your flawed & misguided ways! The one thing I will do for you, Merlyn, is continue to pray for you. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. Merlyn, I didn't create the list & since you seem to be the keeper of the list I suggest you do the research necessary to have it represent only public schools. You are the one over inflating the number of public "illegally" chartering BSA unit! If you can't represent the facts correctly, don't represent them at all. The disclaimer that the list was computer generated has nothing to do with it's accuracy! Credibility is important, Merlyn! And yours is slipping quickly! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. Sounds like this list of schools S4A has is not very accurate! I know if I was putting together a list of schools that violate something, I would want to be accurate! Guess accuracy is tossed by the wayside in order to bash the BSA! Now that's the American way! Just checked S4A PA list & found at least 3 schools that are private! Probably more! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)(This message has been edited by evmori)
  4. The rules are up to the individual Troop! Serious infractions result in the loss of the card & the Scout will have to re-earn it! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. So, Merlyn, you want the BSA to compromise their values but you refuse to compromise yours? Sounds like you want your cake & eat it, too! Let's see. A public school receives public funding therefore can't charter a BSA unit because the BSA has a membership requirement that a member must believe in God and therefore discriminates. OK. Then there are religious based colleges who receive public funding and students are eligible to receive federal & state student loans & grants. Yet, that's OK! Sounds like a double standard! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. Merlyn & the ACLU just want to destroy Scouting! Their claim that by chartering a BSA unit violates the Constitution is such a stretch! The Supreme Court ruled the BSA could excluded atheists! Now the ACLU is persecuting the BSA because they are doing exactly what they are allowed to do! Is it discrimination to exclude atheists? Yes it is. Doesn't the IBEW discriminate? You must be a registered electrician to be a member! And I'm sure they receive public funding of some sort! Why don't they receive the same wrath from the ACLU the BSA does? Be careful Merlyn. If you succeed in your quest to get special rights for atheists you might find out you won't be able to ride in the front of the bus! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. I didn't mean they didn't use the word discrimination or discriminate, NJ! You're starting to sound like Bob White! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. The BSA is a private organization that has membership guidelines. The ACLU doesn't like these guidelines & is doing everything in it's power to destroy the BSA. There is no other organization that has received this type of treatment from the ACLU! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. SR540Beaver, Can't compare criminal & civil. Two completely different animals. But, if there was no crime, we would still need judges to handle the civil cases! NJ is correct! The supreme court ruled the BSA as a private organization has the right to set it's own membership requirements. I don't think they said a thing about discrimination. However, it is kind of odd how a group who can by law set it's own membership requirements be persecuted for those very requirements! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. NW, No I don't agree these are violations of the Constitution. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. packsaddle, The judges wouldn't even have cases like these if the ACLU didn't dig up people to retain them to pursue these cases! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. And since there is no constitutional violation ............ it won't overrule it! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. packsaddle, The ACLU only has it's own interest at heart! Not the public or the Constitution! They are self-serving! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. unc, The ACLU is gonna look like the bad guys when this whole military thing is over. Merlyn & his ilk will have to look for something else to pick on. My prayers go out for Merlyn & all other atheists to realize the error of their ways & turn their lives over to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. Excellent idea! This might be the best way to shut up the ACLU who is neither American, civil and for liberties! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. NJ, Just trying to understand Merlyn's logic! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. OK Merlyn then by your own explanation, the "military" can't violate the Constitution since it isn't a person! It is a government agency! Thanks for making my point that much stronger! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. SemperParatus, The link you posted doesn't apply to unit sites. Here's the link for unit sites - http://www.scouting.org/webmasters/units.html 1st names are OK. Last names are not forbidden, but in the interest of safety, I wouldn't use them. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. How does the military chartering a BSA unit "establish a religion"? Doesn't it violate the "freedom of speech" not to let the military charter a BSA unit? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. And the 1st Amendment does this. It also ensures the freedom of religion. Sponsorship of a BSA unit in no way establishes a government religion nor does it endorse a specific religion. Sponsorship of a BSA unit is endorsing the freedom of religion. Our founding fathers wanted to ensure all Americans would be able to profess their faith without the threat of persecution. Now the BSA is being persecuted for this very thing. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. Again, Ed, no amount of evidence that that statement is incorrect will ever move you from your unshakable belief that it is correct, so I am not going to bother. Nevertheless, it is not a correct statement of the law. NJ, Maybe that's because there isn't any evidence that statement is incorrect. Hunt, Actually consistency would be an improvement! Plus maybe they would discover what our founding fathers were really trying to accomplish! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  22. A good way to rekindle interest in camporees is to plan one with an interesting theme. My Troop sponsored one titled Americana. We set up each station based on a period of American history. We ended with the "Great California Gold Rush" It was well attended & the Scouts had a great time! I think I still have the planning materials if you would be interested. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. I have to admit three is a bit excessive. My district tends to overdo "program". We pick & choose which ones we want to attend. If the Troop doesn't go & we don't have any other Troop events planned, I usually volunteer to be on staff. The staff usually has a great time. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  24. OK. So if it's ceremonial its OK? Why? I read the text in the link. Doesn't explain it any better. If "In God We Trust" on our currency which is printed by the government isn't endorsing religion then the military chartering a BSA unit isn't promoting discrimination. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  25. fotoscout, That's what I said. They are not allowed to PARTICIPATE in Boy Scout camporees. By having their own area & activities they are not PARTICIPATING in the Boy Scout camporee. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
