Bob, Settle down! I'm sure National doesn't pay someone to monitor web sites. But if they do, so be it! It's just a uniform! Something that isn't a requirement to own to be a member of the BSA! Until it is a requirement, people will not wear it correctly! And it is expensive! Not for all, but for many. And that is also a problem. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Would someone define "built bad" as posted in this thread? Also, the statement was made that complaining in these forums does no good since the people who are empowered to make changes are not on these forums. Do we actually know this is a fact? Since most of us use "handles", isn't it possible those empowered to make these decisions are actually among us? Since the BSA doesn't require the uniform to be a member, one can't be in violation of a uniform rule. The uniform is a method of Scouting. I like the uniform. I think it is comfortable & durable. Maybe I just got a good one. I would, however, like it if they brought back the big cargo pockets instead of the little useless ones. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Pete 4:10

My district uses 100 hours as a guide. However, there is no minimum set by National. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)

...... and by having a Troop policy "A parent is not permitted to be the MB counselor for his/her son's merit badge unless it is offered and completed in a group setting" or something similar would prevent a mom like this from "rubber stamping" merit badges for their son. And BTW Bob, your response to my last post was completely contradictory to your previous posts regarding similar situations. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Did the BSA ignore molestation warnings?

There he goes again! Making fun of people's handles or calling them stupid! Sounds like 2nd grade! Merlyn, The Supreme Court ruled the BSA is a private organization & can set it's own membership requirements. You want to kick the BSA out of all public institutions because of this. And you think this is a good thing? What harm has the BSA done? None. The BSA is a great institution that the federal government supports whole heartedly! Can't say the same thing about radical groups like yours. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
"The SM may have signed the book, but who sat on the Board of Review? It was the bor's responsibility to see that the the scout fulfilled the requirements as stated in his handbook. Did they ask about what troop or patrol outings he used to meet the requirements?" The BOR can't retest, Bob. And since the requirements in the book were signed off, according to your posts in prior discussion about a similar topic, that should be good enough unless the Scout says "I never did that". I am not going back & dig out the old posts so don't bother asking. If you want to, go ahead. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

That would be their undoing.

I don't lie, Merlyn. I make my statements based on what you post. And I don't stoop to calling people names, either. That only reduces your credibility further. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -

I have quoted you accurately, Merlyn. And the disclaimer on the list site is a good cover for not being accurate. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -

Why would it matter if a few private schools are mistakenly listed, especially when the reader is told that this is the case? It's called credibility. That's why it matters. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
While I agree that a Scout can use any MB counselor that is registered, I really don't have a problem with a Troop not allowing a relative to be a MB counselor for a Scout. And I don't really think any policy has been violated if a Troop does have this policy. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Bob is correct. A mom or dad can counsel their son on all his merit badges provided they are approved MB counselors. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

What does the Dale case have to do with atheists? Dale was removed because he was a homosexual. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -

Not my list Merlyn. If it had been, it would be accurate. -
Alternate Swimming Requirement for First Class
evmori replied to SMT376Richmond KY's topic in Working with Kids
This doesn't sound like a mental disability. It sounds like a fear that he needs to overcome. I don't feel an exception should be made to the requirements in this case. If it takes him an hour to pass the swimming requirement for 1st Class, so be it. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Did the BSA ignore molestation warnings?

I posted it because it again shows the BSA acting dishonestly. This coming from the person who posted the list of public schools that charter BSA units! And we all know how worried this person is about the accuracy of that list! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
NJ, Excellent post. I disagree on one point. By excluding atheists, a public school would not be establishing a religion. They would be discriminating based on religion. But it seems to me that if a public school shouldn't be able to charter a BSA unit, they shouldn't be able to sponsor any group that discriminates and they do. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Alternate Swimming Requirement for First Class
evmori replied to SMT376Richmond KY's topic in Working with Kids
I'm not trying to be mean or rude, but isn't this aquaphobia similar to claustrophobia? And aren't both just fears, not mental disabilities? A mental disability can be a fear but a fear isn't necessarly a mental disability. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
OK, Merlyn, if it's isn't the same thing, what is the difference? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

OK Merlyn, if I am lying about your position, what EXACTLY is it I am lying about? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

So it's OK if a public school has a rule "No atheists allowed"?

Alternate Swimming Requirement for First Class
evmori replied to SMT376Richmond KY's topic in Working with Kids
Maybe I'm missing something here. A fear of the water doesn't necessarily equal a physical or mental disability. And the alternate requirement is for Scout that have either or both. Not just being afraid! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Merlyn, Where in my post did I state "running a no atheist youth group". I said "having a rule". I guess I have to draw you a map. I'll use bright colors. What I meant was a public school have a rule "No atheists allowed" anywhere in the school! Whew! I didn't realize this was so hard! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

No Ed, a public school chartering a BSA unit is the same as a public school running a youth group that says "no atheists allowed" (or "No Jews", or "No Catholics", etc). That's not what I posted Merlyn! I posted Yet Merlyn wants to say a public school chartering a BSA unit is the same as a public school having a rule of "No atheists allowed". Not even close to being the same! It really helps when you pay attention! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

jd, I do know better. I just can't stand it to see someone like Merlyn trying to destroy the BSA. My rights, your rights, his rights are all identical. Yet Merlyn wants to say a public school chartering a BSA unit is the same as a public school having a rule of "No atheists allowed". Not even close to being the same! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
