Just read your post Bob and it's too late to edit it. And I wasn't answering for you just rendering my opinion. I have answered the question. So far, you haven't. Was my opinion incorrect? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Married couple as adult leaders on a campout
evmori replied to jark's topic in Camping & High Adventure
Good question, packsaddle! But they couldn't be legally married if they were gay. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
foto, No need to be sorry! There are priests and presidents and BSA officials and rock stars that are excellent role models. There are priests and presidents and BSA officials and rock stars that are terrible role models. And it is that way with any occupation. But homosexuality isn't an occupation. It's a lifestyle. And as a lifestyle I feel it is morally bankrupt. And since you started the topic, Bob, how would you answer you own question? I, too, am curious! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Prejudice will drive more away than it will draw near
evmori replied to tjhammer's topic in Issues & Politics
If you obey the rules it doesn't matter why because the right thing to do was to obey the rule. Mindless statement. The BSA has no rules that prohibits gays. It is an interpretation of Clean in the Scout Law. And I for one am happy with that interpretation. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -

No Bob, the driver in c) was breaking the law! Not even a good example! Try this, the driver in your example c) broke the law by running a stop sign. Now let's say that stop sign was in the middle of a street with no cross street for miles. So the driver appealed his fine for breaking the law by running the stop sign and in turn got the sign removed because there was virtually no reason for it. Now the driver was still guilty of breaking the law but he decided to try to change the law. Not mindless. Are all those rules & regs the BSA has so definitive that there is no room for individual interpretation? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Bob would stay as long as National endorsed it! I for one would be gone. I would start an organization similar that has the same membership requirements the BSA currently has. I would recruit those Scouts & Scouters who felt the same way. I'd even consider using the name "Merlyn's Men" as a name! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

I'd take the untrained leaders over the homosexual leaders. Why? Homosexuals are not the type of role models I want for my kids. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

"Let me see if I understand your position Ed. You say that if you see two people both obeying the rules, you know which one is mindless because he is the one who knows what the rule is. So then the one that doesn't know what the rule is what Ed?" Not what I said Bob. That's what you want to interpret what I said to mean. And that's not what I meant. The BSA doesn't want mindless obedience. No decent organization does! All that would do is stifle creativity because people would be too worried about the consequences! Are we to obey the rules & regs the BSA has in place? Yes we are. Are all those rules & regs so definitive that there is no room for individual interpretation? No. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -

Bob, You won't know unless you ask each one & listen to their response. The one who says "Because that's what the rule is" is probably the mindless one. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -

Bob, Being obedient doesn't mean not questioning rules & laws. Obedient means following the rules & laws. Mindless obedience is following the rules & laws regardless of whether they are good or bad and not asking questions or working to have the laws changed. And if a boy joins the Gay/Straight Alliance club at his school as a gay member, that would be avowed! Publically stating he is gay! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -

Dug, You might have an argument if public schools taught Character developement, Citizenship, and mental, emotional, and physical Fitness. But they don't...anymore. Except for physical fitness public schools are no longer interested in young peoples character. In their infinite wisdom, powerful political forces have removed those elements and any reference to them. Maybe where you live, Bob, but not everywhere. And making this type of generalization is the same as saying white people can't jump. Neither are factual! And just for the record, I would withdraw my membership from the BSA if they changed their policies and allowed homosexuals to be members & leaders. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
If anyone answers anything other than 1. yes and no, 2. no and yes/yes, to these questions, then they have some reading to do. And if these are the answers, then it seems to me that the government and the BSA have very different policies regarding religion. OK NJ. So what if the BSA & US government have different policies regarding religion? Many state governments & the US government have different policies regarding taxes & other things. What's you point? An organization can't have different policies than the US government? This ain't China! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Its Trail Day, What I meant was that the cross wasn't exclusive to Christian religions. ACLU = Another Cash Lovers Union. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Actually, NJ, that's why I asked the question I asked. You seem to be equating being an American with being a member of the BSA. And I don't agree. Being an American doesn't automatically entitle you to be a member of the BSA. If you don't meet their membership requirements, you can't be a member! Hunt, No flamebait! Just my views. And if you look at it, it is just membership requirements! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

How is the government establishing a national religion? A cross isn't exclusive to any one religion! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)

NJ, My bad! Oops! So to be a member of any organization that receives public funding you are saying that if the membership requirements are different than those for being an American, they are wrong? If I'm not mistaken, to be an American all that is required is to be born in the USA or pass the naturalization test (after living in the USA for xxx years) if you weren't. TJ has expressed his homosexuality on this forum in the past, however he is not an avowed homosexual, meaning that he does not publicly affirm it, which makes him an eligible member of the BSA. Ummm.... this is a public forum. So if TJ has expressed his homosexuality here, it has been publicly affirmed therefore making him avowed. And that makes him ineligible to be a BSA member, We are called to love the sinner & hate the sin. If we maintain that mindset, we will be better people for it. The BSA needs to stick to it's guns. They have survived declines in membership before with out compromising their moral position. I wouldn't expect them to start now. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
NJ, One does not have to profess a faith in God to be a Boy Scout. One needs to profess a faith in a god to be a Boy Scout. Big difference. So the answer to #2 can be No. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Actually the real truth is the ACLU has only itself interest at heart! Not the interest of the American public. The ACLU is neither American or for civil liberties! Merlyn, You complaining about Eamonn not posting the real author of his post is funny! Now back to your list editing! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Merlyn, The BSA doesn't discriminate against atheists. The BSA has membership requirements like many other organizations. To be a member of the IBEW I need to be an electrician. If not, I can't join. Atheists don't meet the membership requirements of the BSA therefore they can't join! A boy can't join the Girl Scouts! Why? Because to join the Girl Scout one must be a girl! Membership requirement! You can call it discrimination if that make you feel warm & fuzzy. But in the end, it is a membership requirement! Nothing more. Nothing less. Start your own scouting organization that has a membership requirement that one must be an atheist to join! Now, get back to editing that school list that is so inaccurate! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

The ACLU has no interest in defending the Constitution! They have an agenda like eisely posted and it is not defending the Constitution! They want to stretch the discrimination portion of the 1st Amendment so far out of whack that it will be unrecognizable! Merlyn, If you are a true defender of the Constitution, you would be going after all groups that discriminate! The Girl Scouts do it! So do many many other groups. Your only interest here is self serving! That is evident by your posts! Go ahead call me stupid! Tell me I am a liar! That's is what you seem to stoop to when you are backed into a corner! Really shows your character! I will continue to pray for you! You really need it! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
