  1. OK. No I don't have the information. Apparently neither do you nor do you care. Just proves my point you have no interest in anyones civil rights. Just destroy the BSA at all cost. Because the BSA has reserved the park in the summer isn't the same as denying people use! They are using it! They are allowed to reserve it for as long as they want! So can anyone else! No no one else can use it when it is reserved by the BSA! And the BSA can't use it when it is reserved for someone else! Sort of like renting a car. You rent it. You use it. I can't rent the same car because you already have! I have to wait till you are finished THEN I can rent it! I hope you spin a top better than you are trying to spin this! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. Guide to Safe Scouting (G2SS) So rules and guidelines are the same thing? If so, why the different names? If not, what's the difference? I don't think they are the same. Rules are to be followed. Guidelines are suggestions. Follow them or don't follow them. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. Because they didn't get special, no-bid leases, According to your previous post you didn't know if they had a "special no-bid lease"! Did you do some research or are you just guessing? and they don't exclude people from public parkland on the basis of religion. And neither does the BSA. Anyone can use the land they helped improve & hold a lease on. ehcalum, I can't stand to see someone selectively attack the BSA (or any group for that fact) and claim they are defending Americans against a discriminatory organization when all they are trying to do is destroy the BSA. I will not relent! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  4. Eamonn mentioned guidelines so we will take this one step farther. Are guidelines the same as rules? And rules for the purpose of this thread encompasses regulations & laws. Eamonn, Excellent post! Thanks. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. We never let a kid OR adult stay in the same clothes more than one day! We sorta subscribe to the "A Scout is clean"! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. Trevorum, What I mean is foul language & bad behavior isn't tolerated. I double dip all the time I have even re-gifted Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  7. I haven't justified them at all, Ed - in fact, if those leases were also awarded without competitive bidding, they would be struck down as void on the same basis as the BSA lease. But you never have any useful information to contribute. And that proves my point! You don't know if those leases were awarded without competitive bidding because you really don't care! (I don't know either nor do I care) Your whole focus is the BSA! Nothing more! If you & the ACLU were really defending the Constitution, you & the ACLU would be attacking those other organizations with the same viciousness you are attacking the BSA. But you aren't. Why? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. How much do you put up with? In my unit, none. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. This seems like a good question. What are the BSA rules? Not are they good or bad rules. Not should we follow them or not. Not which one is more important. What are the BSA rules? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. What are the circumstances surrounding these leases? Makes no difference. Religious organizations have the same type of lease the BSA has & yet you seem to be able to justify them! Just proves your and the ACLU's only agenda is the destruction of the BSA! Well, what are you going do when this ruling is overturned, Merlyn? What will you & the American Cash Lover Union go after then? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. Yinz guys is givin' me a headache! All those high faloutin' werds! And the smell of them socks! WHEW!
  12. WOW! The mis-interpretations are flying now! Which BSA rules, and by your definition, the bold face printed ones, are a hindrance to you running the program? None and I never inferred any were. I also never posted or inferred the bold faced ones were the only rules. I was asking a question not making a statement. Another total end run. No one has suggested that rules should be, or are, the focus. Completely ignored everything up to that point in my post. We have a scout leader as an example who feels that having scouting awards such as the Eagle rank gives him superior discretion of the speed limit laws. Interesting interpretation. I think the poster stated they set the cruise 5 mph over the limit. I don't think they posted they did this because they are an Eagle Scout & don't need to abide by the law. Since you originated this thread, Bob, what is your definition of a BSA rule? I think this could be where the sticking point is. BTW FB, I can smell your socks! RULE BREAKER! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  13. It seems we need to define what is a rule. Is it anything written in any BSA handbook or manual? Is it only the bold print in these handbooks & publications? What's the difference between a rule & guideline? When a scout ignores a troop rule are they excused if they have the Eagle rank as well or does that just work for you? That is the question everyone keeps avoiding. Everyone is answering the question. Just not to the liking of the asker. What I am getting from most posters is the rules need to be put into perspective. When the rules become the focus of the program over the program itself is where the problem exists. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. Don't you love it when someone ask a question that has no correct answer (to the questioner) and is used to make everyone who tries to answer look like a fool?
  15. The Balboa Park case is typical ACLU. Twist the law to fit your need. Then make gobs of cash off the city! And for what? Just to get the Scouts out of the park. Nothing more. Nothing less. The only rights that were trampled on were the BSA's. All they did was maintain a section of the park at no cost to the citizens of San Diego. Now the citizens of San Diego will have to pay for someone to do what the BSA did for nothing. Plus cover the gobs of cash the ACLU won! When this is overturned, I hope the gobs of cash the ACLU got have to be returned. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. Whether you shoplift or murder you are still a criminal. I agree. And whether you wear a uniform or not you are still a Scout if you registration is current! But a person guilty of shoplifting won't get the electric chair. Why? The law that was broken is not equal to the murder law. Same with the uniform "rules" and the YP rules. They aren't equal. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. Yeah yeah good character holds the same weight. That is a given. That in no way answers the question. If what you are saying is the uniform "rules" and the YP rules are of equal importance I would disagree. If someone doesn't wear their uniform properly no one will die but if someone doesn't follow a YP rule someone could die. Big difference! Sort of like punishment for crimes. The punishment is based on the crime committed. Shoplifting isn't as serious as murder therefore different consequences. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. So the uniform "rules" and YP rules hold the same weight?
  19. I musta read Scoutndad's post wrong? I didn't read anything about the validity of a rule. What I read was finding out why a Scout thought a rule was stupid so we as adults can explain the rule so the Scout has a better understanding of the rule. Comparing how one wears a uniform to water safety is a little absurd. When it comes to water safety (or any safety for that fact) there is no wavering from the rules. As for the "how to wear the uniform" rules, those are more guidelines than rules. After all, how can you have a rule for something that isn't required? EDIT PART - Scoutndad's post directly before this post wasn't there when I wrote my post! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 (This message has been edited by evmori)
  20. Excellent point Scoutndad! What we as adults perceive as stupid might not be what a Scout perceives as stupid. And having a better understanding of how the Scouts think can only be a good thing. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. Did you double-check the time? Maybe that is the staff check-in time. Or maybe that is the time check-in starts! If check-in is at 3PM on a Friday, I would think attendance would be low for this event. It's not fair to make kids chose between school & another activity. It's not fair to the parents, either. I wouldn't support this in in future. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. FB, Excellent! (This message has been edited by a staff member.)
  23. Uh, no. I prefer using accurate terms Yeah accurate! Like you list of public schools! Accuracy is the last thing you are concerned with!
  24. Class A, Class b, Uniform 1, Uniform 2, Activity! What's the difference as long as the Scouts & Scouters in our respective units understand what we are talking about! We seem to be getting all in a tizzy about something we don't even need to have to be a BSA member. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  25. When you see a vet, thank him/her for your freedom.
