So then by your example a platoon leader isn't in charge of his platoon because he get orders from someone else? Disagree. The PL is in charge of his patrol. He is the one who is held responsible for their actions. If he is told by the SPL to have his patrol complete a task it is th PL's responsibility to make sure it is done. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

The Ten Commandments Can Stay On Public Lands!
evmori replied to Rooster7's topic in Issues & Politics
Of course, since the TX monument was erected to PROMOTE A MOVIE (Cecil B. DeMille's "The Ten Commandments"), we'll see if American Atheists (or a Texas group like Metroplex Atheists) are refused permission to erect a monument, too. You guys making a movie? -
Why is it always the leaders not doing their job? Why isn't it the Scout just not cut out to be a leader? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

That is from a Scout, and that makes my point. If all the PL does is hand out orders from the SPL and SM then he is not in charge of his patrol he is simply a communication device for the SM and SPL and that is not supposed to be the focus of his job. The SM and the SPL are not supposed to be determining what happens in the patrol that is the patrols job. If others are telling the PL what to do then they are in charge of the patrol and not the PL. Don't agree. One can be told what to do but not how to do it. The SPL can tell the PL to get an ax yard put up. It's up to the PL to get it done how he sees fit. The PL is still in charge of his Patrol. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4;10

Never said I didn't love you as a person, Merlyn. I just don't agree with you! What's your opinion on the recent SCOTUS ruling? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 Can you feel the love tonight ......... -
Does someone have chapter & verse that states how to remove a PL?

I don't think a troop has a "right" to stay up late, play radios and disturb a neighboring campsite. A Scout is courteous. Putting a ban on radios does not make a Scout courteous. No putting a ban on radios doesn't make a Scout courteous. But it should help the Scout (and others) to remember there are other people around who might be annoyed. That helps teach how to be courteous. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Trevorum, Yeah you are correct! I'm not a very artsy guy! But still, there is more open for interpretation than their was before! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 (This message has been edited by a staff member.) -
Ok which is it 10 kinds, 3 kinds, 4 kinds or 2 kinds! Or do we add them all up & get 20?

Actually, the SCOTUS really muddled things up. Not allowed on courthouses except when it's historic???? But allowed on other government buildings??? Sounds like the SCOTUS doesn't want to remove the fresco in their chambers! That's a good thing regardless of the reason! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
I would concur with the four kinds!

I have to agree that your protest would not get across to everyone. Write letters. Lots of letters. To lots of newspapers, TV & radio stations, Senators & Congressmen. And don't forget the President & Vice President of the USA. Put up a sign stating your displeasure. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Atlanta Scout Executive resigns amid scandal
evmori replied to Marcheck's topic in Issues & Politics
Does any crime, no matter the 'size' (absconding with a pencil from the office, perhaps, or a non-criminal rule violation, not wearing scout socks) eliminate our ethical ability to accuse or convict someone of another crime, no matter the 'size' (fraud, child abuse, perhaps)? I would agree with packsaddle & answer no. Crime is crime but not all crimes are equal. Someone who drives over the speed limit is committing a crime. So is someone who steals a car. But these aren't equal. If they were, the punishment would be the same. The BSA execs are accused of fraud. Serious charge. They are accused of padding the numbers. So was Enron and Adelphia & many others. Fraud is a whole lot different than violating the speed limit! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Scout/Scouter Owned Tents vs Unit Owned
evmori replied to Owl62's topic in Equipment Reviews & Discussions
We have always supplied the Scouts with tents. We feel the cost of Scouting is high enough without each Scout having to purchase their own tent. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
The patrol leader is in charge of the patrol. Hence the name. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

House passes power to ban flag burning - On to Senate
evmori replied to johndaigler's topic in Issues & Politics
I don't think cutting a flag up before retiring it in a fire is desecration. A flag is to be retired with respect. When we retire flags at summer camp, we cut them up & pass out pieces so everyone can place a piece in the fire. The flag is protected by the flag code. But sadly, the code isn't enforced. I don't think we need a constitutional amendment to ban flag burning. The Constitution defines our freedoms. It doesn't regulate them. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
I have sat on numerous Eagle boards & never ran across anything like this. If I had, I would probably not voted for the Scout to receive his Eagle. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

WOW! Never knew chuck boxes were part of the BSA model! And camping not in uniform is part of the model? I though 10-12 was the optimum size the BSA recommended for patrols?(This message has been edited by evmori) -

Ed - don't try to get the CO involved in the troop. YOU, get involved in the CO. Try it? Why shouldn't we try to get the CO involved in our Troop? After all, they own it! FScouter, I am not a member of the church that charters our Troop and I am not planning on joining. I am a very active member of another congregation. I am as involved with our CO as a member of our Troop. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -

What's a PA? Has this Scout ever been accused of anything like this before? Did anything happen that day that might lead the accuser to make a false accusation? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -

FScouter, You are really good at reading into posts. Never said we were content. You did. We have tried to get the CO involved many times. The interest isn't there. As long as we don't cause any problems, there are no problems. And I would bet that is what goes on in most units. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
