The last two times our Troop performed skits at summer camp, we poked fun at an aspect of summer camp. The 1st one was poking fun at the check-in procedure and the 2nd was poking fun at swim checks titled "One Fine Day at Aquatics". Neither were PC and both received standing ovations! And we had to get both approved by the camp director ahead of time. I think we worry a little too much about offending anyone. Maybe we could all get a uniformed shirt tattooed on our torso! Then when we earn something, it could be added. The only downside is temporary patches wouldn't be temporary & when a Scout switched POR's there would be some pain involved.

I'm still trying to figure out the term "gay parents". Kids conceived prior to becoming gay? Same sex parents? And if it is know that parents are gay, why wouldn't a unit be able to ban them from trips? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

So funding the Jamboree is establishing a religion? That makes no sense! How is that defined in "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion," No law is established regarding any religion. You seem to want to stretch this clause to say because atheists don't meet the BSA membership requirements the government isn't allowed to help fund a BSA activity. I would agree with the over emphasis on merit badges. 8 in a week? Why not. Basketry, Leatherwork & Woodcarving can be completed in 3 days. If a Scout can shoot, Rifle can be completed in 4 days. Space Exploration & Wilderness Survival are fairly easy. Swimming & Mammal Study are not that tough, either. That makes 8! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

If you lose scouts to other stuff it's because they found what they needed elesewhere, more fun, more adventure, more challenge, more friends. If kids have to go outside of scouting to find those things then you are doing it wrong. No. Just because kids go outside Scouting doesn't mean I or anyone else is doing it wrong. If can mean many things. Scouting isn't for every boy. Maybe all their friends play basketball. So they play basketball instead of Scouting. Maybe they don't like the outdoors. Maybe they find Nintendo more fun than Scouting. Maybe they think chess is more challenging than Scouting.
