  1. Semper is correct. Church attendance is not a BSA requirement. Belief in God is. Whenever I sit on a BOR, one of the 1st questions I ask a Scout is if he believes in God. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. Rooster7, Excellent points! And for the record, abortion is murder. The only reason it's legal is because it's a medical procedure. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. acco, Around the time "I Dream of Jeannie" hit the airwaves.
  4. Charged is correct only because he hasn't been convicted yet. Based on the posts, it's just a matter of a court date & this Scout will be convicted. I think the question is "Is this Scout Eagle material?" Based on his recent actions, I would say no. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. janssenil, So you are saying if your son wasn't allowed to take his cell phone on camping trips you wouldn't let him go? What is that teaching him? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. "I wonder what would happen if at Council and District meetings if we members had to drop and perform push-ups for any and all construed lack of results, follow-through, missed meetings, lack of uniform, late arrivals, etc?" Great object lesson. Bet they wouldn't show up for the next meeting late or out of uniform or at all! And maybe that would be a good thing. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. Bob, You reference should have read 1Peter 4:14-16. Good reference, BTW. Yup. God chose me. I didn't choose Him. I know that for a fact. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. Just because the BSA can do something doesn't mean they should do something. I can pass gas in public but I shouldn't. NJ is correct. Since the BSA is a 501c3 tax-exempt organization it can't do "anything it wants". There are constraints. I, too, would like to know how the BSA embraces Creationism, Bob. If you are basing this on the fact God is mentioned in the Oath then you are really reading into things again. Just for the record, I believe in Creationism. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. Rooster7, I don't think I ever said to ban hot dogs. I just don't count preparing them as cooking for any rank or merit badge requirement. I prefer a good brat or kielbasa to a hot dog & I flat out refuse to eat a boiled one. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. Thanks for your answer, Bob. How about answering the 2nd part of my question, too? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. Bob, So you think the BSA should promote creationism? Is that what you are saying? It's so hard to tell. And are you saying that if the executive board of the BSA decides to promote Nazism, that would be OK since the BSA is a private organization? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. Judge Jones was wrong! The ACLU has a bone to pick with the BSA. The ACLU didn't go after any other group who has the same type of lease obtained in the same manner as the BSA lease. This is nothing but a vendetta by the ACLU. They have no interest other than to destroy the BSA & line their pockets with cash. The only losers are the people of San Diego. But that will change when the ruling is overturned. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. San Diego did nothing illegal by renewing the BSA lease. And the ACLU has no business telling San Diego (or anyone else) who to lease to. This will be overturned. No civil right violated! No laws broken! But will the ACLU return the $$$ it made on this case? Nah! That would be the honorable thing to do. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. Ed, you seem to think that the BSA shouldn't endorse evolution, because it conflicts with some people's religions. Would this go for any other fields of science? Merlyn, What you seem to think I think isn't what I think at all. It is only what you think I think which incorrect. So your question is moot. Is that a bridge? Trevorum, I would agree. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. Trevorum, That's not what I implied at all. What I meant was the BSA shouldn't adopt either as general knowledge. If the understanding of either is required for a merit badge, that is different. But for the BSA to state "We accept Creationism/Evolution as part of our creed." would be wrong. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. Seattle, My assumptions are valid based on his current behavior & lack of parental concern. What would I do? I would tell this Scout that if he plans on earning his Eagle he will need to uphold the Scout Law & Oath by stopping his illegal drinking. If his illegal drinking continues, we will never have his SM conference & will never have his Eagle BOR. That's what I would do. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. Oh I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK. I sleep ............. Oops! Sorry! Wrong thread
  18. Theory of Evolution. Not proven. Theory. Why would the BSA embrace Creationism or Evolution? There is no reason. Sort of like the purpose of this thread. No reason. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. If this behavior has been going on for a long time then there is a bigger problem than initially posted. I don't know if I am from removal from Scouts but I do feel removal from his POR is warranted. How much rope do we give them? Good question. I think this Scout's rope has come to an end. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. I would agree the media love to bash Christians. They feel they can get away with it. If they tried to bash other religious organizations, those organizations would yell & scream & get the ACLU to sue the media! BTW, the ACLU only has it's money hungry self centered interests at heart. They don't give a hoot about the American people if it doesn't benefit them. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. What I am reading is a 15 year is drinking beer & his parents seem to think it's OK. What's going to happen when he turns 16 and gets his drivers license & drives after he has been drinking? Will it be OK until he has an accident? What we have here is irresponsible parents raising an irresponsible child. Not a good situation. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. FB, I would have to disagree about rape. It seems men having sex with men became the norm in Sodom. That is probably why women reverted to the same thing. TJ, When the Bible was written, women, save a few, had very little standing. It was written to men. At the Sermon on the Mount the number of men served was 5,000. Add women & children & the number probably doubles. Just because the Bible was written to men doesn't mean it isn't for everyone. It is. And when some versions make the language gender neutral, the meaning is lost. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  23. A Scout pledges to uphold the Scout Oath & Law. I read "Trustworthy" as not breaking the law (among other things). Since this Scout is under the age of 21 and consuming alcoholic beverages, he is breaking the law therefore, not living up to his pledge to uphold the Scout Oath & Law. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  24. I love bagpipe music! Too bad there isn't a better way to start, though. It always sounds like a cow passing gas when the piper gets ready to play!
