  1. Scouting is comparably priced up front. It does get expensive when you start to factor in the campouts & other niceties! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. Hunt, Those ideas are your own, not mine. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. dan, No one is ignoring that. I'm 5'9". If the depth of the water I am jumping into is 6' its is over my head in depth. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  4. Who can share with us who the BSA program says is in a PLC and where that information can be found? That's helpful!
  5. Did someone say pie? So bye bye Miss American pie Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry And good old boys are drinking whiskey and rye Singing this will be the day that I die I'll take apple with a big ole slab of extra sharp cheddar cheese, please!
  6. If a Scout answered "no", I would ask why. What happens after that depends on the remaining discussion. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. After thinking about this I would not sign off of the requirement if the water was only 1" over a scouts head. dan, By doing this you would be adding to the requirement & that isn't allowed. The requirement states "over his head". Makes no difference how much. Should I as an adult leader have protested administering the swim test in this way? Seattle, No you shouldn't have. It is up to the area director to administer the test any way he/she sees fit as long as the requirements are adhered to. And in your post it seems they were adhered to. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. If you want the answer to that question, you should just go look at their application. And how many Scouts do you think really read the application they signed? And how many younger Scouts (below 1st Class) do you think just say the Oath & Law without really understanding what they are saying? Next BOR or SM Conference for a Scout below 1st Class, ask him what thrifty means? I'll bet you get the "deer in the headlights" look. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. So the Scout is 42" tall & the lake is 8" deep. That's over his head. So is 42.1". The requirement is over his head. Makes no difference how much over his head the water is. And it really depends on where the badge is being taught. As long as the water is over his head & he jumps in, that part of the requirement has been met. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. In my Troop, if a Scout has earned the Swimming MB, he has completed the swimming requirements for his ranks & would be signed off on this requirement. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. A group hug would be fine as long as no "avowed" huggers were there. Can you feel the love.
  12. Great Scott, Alphonse!
  13. NeilLup, My purpose of asking the question "Do you believe in God?" not to weed out anyone. The purpose is to ensure the Scout is living his everyday life according to the Scout Oath. If one doesn't believe in God, one can't do their duty to God. Just curious, what does reverent mean to you, NeilLup? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. OGE is right on the money! I concur!
  15. Too much for an 11 year old or not, the press headline makes it sound like a life or death tragedy was averted! It wasn't a life or death situation! A hiker's shoe gave out & an 11 year old got sick! Nothing more! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. Hey is "flying freely" the same as "going commando"?
  17. Gotta agree Eagle Mom. Sounds like the press is once again making a big deal out of nothing.
  18. Then I ask "When you say the Scout Oath you pledge to do your duty to God. Are you doing that?" Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. "Do you believe in God" is not "just a question." A similar question would be, "Did you lie to any of the people who signed off these requirements?" That's very different from asking how the Scout shows trustworthiness in his daily life. Two completely different questions. I do not ask the question with the assumption the Scout lied. I ask the question so I know the answer. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. While I agree there is a problem, the only thing it has to do with Scouts is whether this kid is Eagle material. Reporting something that is happening outside of Scouts to the SE is not the was to go. It would be the same as someone telling your boss you had a subscription to Playboy. Not relevant! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
