OK. Now I see how the math works. But the profit margin for the hoagies all goes to the Troop. For popcorn, only 34% goes to the Troop not 68%. So the math would look like this $2,815.54=7(Scouts)*91(units sold)*13(cost.unit)*.34(Troop profit) Since Council makes the same %, they get the same amount. Selling 195 hoagies at $5 (38% of the popcorn price) is a lot easier that selling 91 units of popcorn at $13. And 195 hoagies is a little over double the 91 units of popcorn. Actually, 214%. Like I posted earlier, we make $2.05/unit sold. Our FOS contributions are in line with what each family can afford. I don't ask how much each one gives because frankly, it is none of my business. WOW! Sounds like someone lives in a glass-half-empty world. Thanks, Bob, but A simple yes or no would have sufficed. Do you know if this has actually happened to someone or was that just a "for instance"? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

This along with the thread about 2 hour BOR's makes ya wonder why people are doing this! I agree a Scout should know the Oath & Law & should be able to recite them from memory but making the Scout say them until he gets them right serves no point. I have always looked at BOR's for rank under Eagle as good preparation for a Scout's Eagle board. This is how we handle BOR's in my unit. Seems to work well. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Bob, Your math makes no sense. I'm gonna guess you meant $280 not $2,800 in profit. And for a Scout to earn $280 he would need to sell $824 in popcorn which would be (at $13 per container)63 containers. To earn the same amount selling hoagies, a Scout would need to sell (at $5 per hoagie)112 hoagies. Almost twice as much but consider the selling price is less than 1/2 that of the popcorn. Easier sell. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

In my council, the unit make 34% on popcorn. And that can only be done if the unit fundraising chair attends all the meetings & hits all the deadlines. That means a Scout earns $34 for every $100 sold. Now we have sold hoagies & pizzas. We pay $2.95 & sell for $5.00. 41% profit. Sell $100. Earn $41. 7% better than popcorn & way more affordable. Sure selling popcorn helps the council. So does chipping in on Beaver Day to get camp ready. So does giving to FOS. Popcorn is too pricey. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

While I see the concerns, once the card is marked complete, it is complete. The concerns should be taken up with the proper advancement committees. During SC, the adults will walk around to the various program areas to see what's going on & to see how our Scouts are doing. If we see something we don't like or think is being done wrong, we address it then. This way we don't get blindsided at the end of the week. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

In your own words that you suggested be used on that mother and scout "you joined voluntarily and if you don't like the rules leave?" Explain why that should not apply to a Scouter? In my own words I posted You chose to put your kid in my unit. If you don't like it you can leave! I posted nothing about rules. You incorrectly interpreted what I posted. You do this a lot, Bob. I voluntarily joined the BSA knowing I was bound to follow the rules & regs. I didn't know EVERY rule & reg when I joined. Did you, Bob? When have I not followed the rules & regs, Bob? Your question regarding your state being Scout-like is totally absurd. Just answer Hunt's question. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

2 hour BOR for any rank is out of line. I have sat on many Eagle BOR's & they last at most 1 hour! This is totally unfair to the Scout. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

OK Bob, You asked Do you agree with the statement that 'you knew the rules coming in and if you do not like them you can leave?' And I answered When I joined the BSA as an adult leader many years ago I was given an application to complete. I completed it & signed it. I was advised it had to be approved & when it was I would be notified. It was & I was notified. I was not given a book of rules & regulations. I was given a training schedule. So to answer your question, no I don't agree with the statement. Let me simplify this for you. When I signed the adult application, I knew I was bound to follow the rules & regs of the BSA. Did I know at the time what all those rules & regs were? No. I doubt any of us did when we signed up. That is why I don't agree with you statement. The response you posted from a completely different site has nothing to do with this thread. All you did was take it out of context. I will not address this again, but ask those who want to to read the entire thread titled "Tenderfoot Physical Fitness Requirement" at http://www.meritbadge.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=1080&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 and come to your own conclusions. Now, back to Hunt's question. Just answer it the way it was posed. Or is your answer anything the BSA does Scout-like? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Time to focus, Bob. The other thread you referred to has nothing to do with rules. If you read the entire thread, which I'm sure you did, you know my response was regarding another poster talking about a parent threatening to sue the leader. My response was If the parent is making you walk on egg shells then they have the upper hand. I say let 'em sue! I'm not gonna walk on egg shells. You chose to put your kid in my unit. If you don't like it you can leave! I make no mention of any rules and that thread doesn't even apply to this conversation. And just as a reference point, my response was on 9/20/2005 at 1:23 PM not 12:33 PM on 9/21/2005. Your question Do you agree with the statement that 'you knew the rules coming in and if you do not like them you can leave?' has nothing to do with whether I like the rules. It deals with if I knew them when I signed up as a leader. And that I answered. So yes Bob, I can see why you are confused. And it's not the fact you don't understand where I stand, you just don't understand. Hunt is still waiting for an answer. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

OK, Bob, I'll play. When I joined the BSA as an adult leader many years ago I was given an application to complete. I completed it & signed it. I was advised it had to be approved & when it was I would be notified. It was & I was notified. I was not given a book of rules & regulations. I was given a training schedule. So to answer your question, no I don't agree with the statement. What exactly is your point? Legal doesn't make something unjust. They are about to raise my county real estate taxes by a huge margin. It's legal but not just. And I think Hunt would really like it if you answered his question. That would be the Scout-like thing to do. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Supporting the BSA does not mean not asking questions. Supporting the BSA doesn't mean agreeing completely with everything the BSA does without asking why. Those who ask questions and want to know why are probably more concerned about the BSA than those who feel "because the BSA said so". I would still like to know the thinking behind this new requirement. And why for 1st Class & not 2nd Class? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
-
Bob, Just for the sake of argument, let's say I agree with you knew the rules coming in and if you do not like them you can leave. What's your point? Are you inferring I have violated the BSA rules? If so, what rules have I violated? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Pledge of Allegiance ruled "unconstitutional"
evmori replied to Cubmaster Mike's topic in Issues & Politics
If conservatives were genuine supporters of parental rights to control the rearing of ones children, they wouldn't be demanding that my child sit and listen to the government tell her that her father and mother are wrong about their most deeply-held beliefs What a bunch of junk! The entire article is at best anti-American. And when did school children get the right to be free from a coercive requirement to affirm God.? Total garbage! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -

Pledge of Allegiance ruled "unconstitutional"
evmori replied to Cubmaster Mike's topic in Issues & Politics
The 1st Amendment to the Constitution was never intended to prohibit such government acknowledgment of a higher power. It was intended to prevent the "Establishment" of a government religion. The purpose was derived from the direct experience in Europe where governments tried to mandate adherence to a specific set of beliefs and practices. Exactly! It has nothing to do with monotheism. The purpose was so government couldn't dictate a specific religion. And the words "under God" don't dictate a specific religion or establish a specific religion. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Would it be right if the BSA revoked your membership because you use the handle Bob White? No. But according to you, the BSA can revoke your membership for any reason they want to. After all, The reasons are whatever reasons they choose, they have the right to set their rules. And yeah, I am reading clearly. Since it is the BSA's organization it is because they said so according to you. No one except maybe Merlyn has said they don't share the BSA's values. That's never been an issue. And your house example is old & doesn't apply. The people you have labeled as malcontents actually care for the BSA more than you will ever know or understand, Bob. We just don't accept things at face value. We want to know why. And there is nothing wrong with that. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Hey Kahuna! I was right! Bob's position is "Because the BSA said so". So, Bob, if the BSA decides to remove you because you use the handle Bob White on message forums, that's OK with you? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Pledge of Allegiance ruled "unconstitutional"

Atta boy, Merlyn. Attack the person! Good tactic! You'd make a great politician! Avoid the actual point & attack the person! Another ruling that will be overturned! I swear (sorry) that people only file these moronic lawsuits in the 9th Circuit because they know those morons will side with them! At least the 9th Circuit has 75% of their cases over turned. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Do you believe that the BSa should be allowed to remove a volunteers membership? Why? They are too tall? They don't shower? Or just because? No I don't want you define "is". But your definition of "protesting in a an unproductive manner" could be completely different than mine & I want to be sure I understand what your point is. Up to now, I'm not sure. And let me ask you, Bob, do you feel the BSA should be able to remove a volunteer & if so for what reason(s)? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
-
But Ed who do you know was thrown out for just disagreeing? Actually, Bob, the only person I know who was tossed was someone who decided to fornicate with a female camp counselor. It's not disagreeing that got anyones membership revokoked. It was how and to whom they protested. Well if someone got tossed for disagreeing with someone then they got tossed for disagreeing. So if you agree that that under certain conditions the council or BSA cann revoke membership than it is not a matter of the BSA being unjust but of the individual protesting in a an unproductive manner. Define "protesting in a an unproductive manner". Do you agree with that? Depends on you definition of "protesting in a an unproductive manner". I haven't judged anyone. This year? Bob, Please please (and I mean this in the nicest way) get a spell checker! Kahuna, I think Bob's position is "If the BSA says so, it's right."
