Forcing units to buy full cases is not good sense.

What consitutes delivering "The Scouting Program"
evmori replied to LongHaul's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Anarchist & EagleDad are right on the money! If we all strive to do what is best for the Scouts in our units how can anyone fault us? Probably because we had white non official BSA socks on when we were in uniform or because we don't use the NSP. Oh well! No one is perfect! If we continue to do our best in teaching the Scouts in our units to make moral & ethical decisions we are Scouting! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Correct - the uniform is not required. But when it is worn ,it is to be worn correctly. And wearing the official BSA uniform shirt without the official BSA pants is not wearing the uniform correctly. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

What consitutes delivering "The Scouting Program"
evmori replied to LongHaul's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Delivering the Scouting program is when we do our best to follow the Methods & Aims of Scouting while keeping the best interests of the Scouts at heart. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
So, when did you ever stray from the Methods and Aims to keep the best interest of the youth at heart? We don't require the Scouts to own the official uniform pants. That is straying from the uniform method. Does this help keep the best interests of the Scouts at heart? I don't know. Never really thought about it. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

It might be all warm & fuzzy but that's the way I have always felt. And it means exactly what it says. I am involved in Scouting for the Scouts not myself. And I have done & will continue to do what is in the best interest of the Scouts in my unit. And if I stray from the Methods & Aims while doing this, so be it. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Agree. Maybe I'm missing something here. One who has the best interest of the Scouts at heart would be following the methods to achieve the aims. But just following the methods to achieve the aims doesn't necessarily have the best interests of the Scouts at heart. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

If they don't follow the program how can they have Scouting in their souls? Define following the program. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Eagle-to-be not supported by troop
evmori replied to committeechair's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Ed, it sounded like you were advising that the troop should not get involved in a troop member's Eagle project and I wanted you to expand on that opinion. If that's not your position, then peace, but then why make that kind of statement in the first place? My statement that An Eagle project isn't a Troop project. There is no requirement for the Troop to help out is a fact. That's why I made that statement. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -

Eagle-to-be not supported by troop

So, Ed, you tell us that Scouts cannot be required to help a fellow Scout with his Eagle project. Could you explain in different words what it is you are trying to communicate? I'm not sure what you don't understand. Helping a Scout in the Troop with his Eagle project isn't required but it is the Scout thing to do. Is that better? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Excellent article! And very true! Thanks Fred.

Eagle-to-be not supported by troop
evmori replied to committeechair's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Barry, I agree my statement doesn't help solve the problem in this Troop. This sort of thing has never been a problem in my Troop. We (the adults) have always told the Scouts they aren't required to help on an Eagle project. We also remind them a Scout is helpful & friendly & when their turn comes they will be needing help. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
School lunches have never been good! And placing the blame on poor school lunches is just a way for parents to deny their own responsibilities. When I was a kid, I was always outside playing baseball, football, basketball, swimming, bike tag, horseshoes, tennis, etc. The only time I was home was to eat, sleep & do homework! Kids don't play outside enough today. Why? I think it's because they expect everything organized for them & have never learned how to just "play". Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

I am familiar with the G2SS & that is the reason I asked the question. So the exact place in the G2SS would be appreciated since I could not find anything about not holding 2 positions. And, BTW, I am no longer a trainer. Was for 5+ years. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)

Wonder if the ACLU would take this case? Sounds like the Boy & Girl Scouts are being discriminated against! They are charged a fee while other outside groups aren't! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

FScouter, No one is even remotely suggesting that. Actually, to fulfill the letter of the requirement, the SPL & ASPL could be a patrol. Being active in his patrol doesn't meet the letter of the requirement. It sort of makes me scratch my head that some of the poster are adamant that we can't add or subtract from any of the requirements and yet are willing to because their interpretation of the "spirit of the requirement. Reminds me of the hanging chad election! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Being a UC is a lot of work & takes time. Bob, In your post are you saying to hold two positions is a violation listed in the G2SS? Where does it state that in the G2SS? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Eamonn, I feel the kilt is appropriate for the occasion. Everything else you listed would not be appropriate. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Am I reading correctly? The requirement states Be active in your troop and patrol for at least x months as a xxx Scout. Troop AND patrol not troop OR patrol. Bob, are you saying it's OK to pass a Scout on one on the ranks this is a requirement for if the Scout was ONLY active in his Troop because he was the SPL or ASPL? Isn't that subtracting from the requirement? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

OGE, If nothing else, that was in poor taste. Child abuse isn't funny. No abuse is! But just because someone makes a joke about it doesn't mean they think it's trivial. It might be just their way of dealing with it. You don't have to like it. That's your choice. But the next time you laugh at a blond joke or tell a lawyer joke remember, they people just like you.
