  1. Merlyn, So it's OK to ignore rules & laws. Where do you draw the line? Do you take Christmas off? Why? If you had any principles at all you wouldn't. dan, The BSA doesn't state an agnostic can't be a member! If you are referring to the company line of an answer regarding the DRP, it doesn't state agnostics can't be members. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. ronvo, Many private groups discriminate based on some criteria! You may not like it, but it's a fact. The BSA is being persecuted for doing what they are allowed to do by law. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. I posted "Just because there are some BSA units that ignore policy doesn't make it OK." And Merlyn replied Sure it does. I'm all in favor of BSA units ignoring the policy, and many do already. And, of course, the BSA dishonestly chartered units to public schools for decades, yet you manage to never see that as dishonest. This is just the opposite situation, where an organization deliberately intends to ignore the BSA's requirements. Is it me or has Merlyn stating violating policy is just fine? If that's the case, where does one draw the line as to right and wrong? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  4. ronvo, The BSA is a private organization that has membership requirements just like any other private organization. If you don't meet the membership requirements, you can't be a member. Merlyn, What don't they understand about the Constitution? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. I think this whole thread is a good illustration why public schools can't charter scout units any more. Not sure I understand your point here Merlyn. Are you saying because we can't agree on what an agnostic believes is a good reason schools shouldn't charter BSA units? Don't see the correlation. Plus, if you look at the real world, a lot of units deliberately ignore the BSA's discrimination. There are a few Venture Crews on the east coast that were formed for medieval fantasy role-playing, run by college-age kids, and you'd better believe they ignore the no gays or atheists rules Just because there are some BSA units that ignore policy doesn't make it OK. That would be like saying it's OK to loot & plunder as long as you don't get caught! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. That's what I love about America! Freedom of choice! We can choose to join one group or another! If we don't like the politics or religious beliefs of one group, we can decide not to join! We aren't forced to take part in something that goes against our own individual values no matter how flawed those individual values are! America - What a country! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. I'm not having any problems! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. Because the all the fun has been sucked out of Scouting for them. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. This was a BOR not a congressional inquest! The board was way out of line. Another board with different people who know what they are doing should be convened for this Scout. He got a raw deal! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. Not a service project! More of a fundraiser even if the profits are given to a charity. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. There is a Goodwill store in Pittsburgh that has a separate shop designated to refurb old PC's for the lower income people. Not sure if they sell them or give them away. I plan on donating a couple old CRT monitors I have. Better than dumping them in a landfill. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. Why wear the uniform at all? Because you want to. Because you are proud to be a Scout or Scouter. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. I think it's a great idea! And it would really benefit the Eagle candidate. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. Scout Spirit is defined as living the Oath & Law in your everyday life. How does not wanting to wear the uniform contradict that? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. Are the methods requirements? I would say no. They are ends to reach the aims but they aren't required. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. I find it interesting that schools have pep rallies before sporting events where the focus can be the total destruction of the opposition but a flier can't go home that advocates the love of our Lord. Me thinks we is headed down a slippery slope that leads to destruction. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. Once again, you hit the nail on the head Anarchist! Great post and an even better job as a teacher! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Section IX address the pointing of firearms (paintball guns included) at individuals. There is nothing regarding target shooting with paintball guns. And section VIII doesn't even mention paintball guns. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. Building character includes preparing him for the real world, doesnt it? Yes it does! And in the real world, we don't always get what we want! And sometimes, we actually have to produce results! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. A BOR is not a retest of the Scouts skills! Wait! A bunch of other posters posted the same thing! I love it when we agree! I could understand maybe not passing him if he didn't know the Oath & Law. But not for being unable to tie a bowline around his waist (not a requirement) and not knowing something that he never learned is wrong. Time to have a face to face with the board & find out what's going on! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. 1st off, I don't quote policy just to quote policy. 2nd, my post of Late Lament was to show I can cut & paste, too! Agnosticism is more than a lack of knowledge about God. It is more of a belief that it is impossible to know anything about God. If an agnostic person finds it impossible to know anything about God, it seems impossible he would have any belief in God. How can one believe in something one declares it is impossible to know anything about? Agnosticism isn't a lack of knowledge about God! It is more of a "I know there is a higher power but not sure what it is". Most agnostics are turned off by organized religion. The BSA doesn't require it's members to belong to a denomination, go to church regularly if at all or publicly display their belief. They do require it's members to do their duty to God. And that can be done in a million, not trillion different ways! It seems the sticking point of the original post was the Scout not wanting to say grace. I posted this before - grace doesn't need to be religious in nature! Grace can be as simple as "Thank you for this food". The failure to understand isn't coming from this Scouter. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. Breathe deep the gathering gloom Watch lights fade from every room Bedsitter people look back and lament Another day's useless energy spent. Impassioned lovers wrestle as one, Lonely man cries for love and has none. New mother picks up and suckles her son, Senior citizens wish they were young. Cold hearted orb that rules the night, Removes the colors from our sight. Red is grey and yellow white, But we decide which is right. And which is an illusion?
  23. Geez anarchist! The zipper needs to be fricasseed! And the frame par-boiled then poached! Don't ya know nothin'? And cabin packing don't count! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  24. Actually, OGE, that will continue to happen. The uniform isn't required. Belief in God is! The Scouts God, not yours or mine. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
