  1. Animal House can't be far behind!
  2. The SM is responsible for NOT wasting thier time with boys that have no chance/time/ability to complete the MB. The SM is the "gatekeeper" in the aspects that (s)he needs to sign the blue card prior to the boy contacting the MBC. This is a sad comment. If a boy gets a partial, he gets a partial. No one's time is wasted! If you really feel this way, you are in the wrong program.
  3. The Scout could be taking the MB to learn the skills.
  4. Coffee cup Your own coffee Two ply TP Extra towels Garbage bag for laundry
  5. Not so....my Scout was permitted to work on his Canoeing MB without regard to the fact of the Scout's swimming ability. This statement makes me scratch my head. It seems, Engineer61, you were not present so to make this statement without being there is wrong. What part of the Canoeing MB was your son working on? It isn't all done in the water. What is your son's swimming ability? If a life jacket is properly worn, it works very well.
  6. Not feeling the love from the City of Brotherly Love.
  7. Nope. Nothing prohibits a boy from sleeping alone in a tent.
  8. St. Peter will be there to direct him to the "other" door.
  9. My esteemed colleague OGE meant to say those are the 1st three requirements of the canoeing merit badge. The answer you got about life jackets was not the correct one. Yes a boy must be able to swim to take any boating merit badge. The BSA takes water safety very seriously.
  10. Did the Catholic church have to release similar documents?
  11. They found her and she is OK.
  12. 6. Make a simple article of furniture for practical use in the home or on the home grounds, finished in a workmanlike manner, all work to be done without assistance. I don't take "without assistance" to mean "on your own". Another one of those gray areas that is left to the MB counselor to decide.
  13. A Scout should advance as fast or as slow as he is comfortable with.
  14. Question, though: Where would vampires and zombies fall on the living/monster scale? I mean, they're technically undead humans, aren't they? They are undead but they are not living ergo fire away!
  15. I don't see why #6 can't be completed as a group project? What if the unit decides to make a dining room table and chairs?
  16. In this case I would count it. This is different from the Cit. in Community MB where scouts are obligated to do a certain number of service hours for the badge. In that example, I would argue the service hours should count toward the badge, but those same hours should not be counted AGAIN toward service hours for rank advancement. When I was a SM, I would let the Scouts I in my unit use the services hours for the Cit in Comm MB as part of their service hours for rank. There is nothing that prohibits it other than the SM not allowing it.
  17. What does the SM say? If I was the SM, it would count.
  18. Great question. The way I handled it was to remind them it isn't about you. It's about the boys. And they learn differently than you and I do. Do I understand it? Nope. I think it is really an age thing. It seems once they hit their early 20's, the light goes off in their brains and they go, "Oh yeah!" I had one of those daughters, Barry.
  19. Barry makes a good point. The problem I have is with the way the parents of the instigator are claiming he is the injured party. Horse hockey! He got caught doing something he shouldn't be doing and is embarrassed! And he should be! Time to man up and take your lumps!
  20. We made a separate ribbon display since we had so many. Looked very impressive.
  21. This isn't hazing. This is battery and should be dealt with as such. Yeah the aggressor is traumatized! Bull! This could get real ugly if the parents decide to take this to court. It sounds like there are lots of witnesses & the traumatized aggressor (Bull) could be up to his in hot water!
  22. How many of those do you have OGE & how many are you selling Yeah BSA communication from the top down is poor. And in this day and age there is really no excuse. If the supply division can do it, so can Irving. Or maybe it is they don't want to????????????
