  1. I would be scared, too! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all
  2. Maybe, just maybe the parents are making the boy go to meetings because he wanted to be a Webelos at the beginning of the year and has changed his mind since? And maybe, just maybe the parents are making him go to meetings because they are trying to teach him if you sign up for something you must see it through? Same thing could have happened with church camp? Letting kids quit because they don't like it teaches them nothing about commitment. Ride this kid out till the end of the year. You can only be there for the one who want to be there. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all
  3. Total junk. And the separation of church & state appears nowhere in the Constitution. And if Christ wasn't born we wouldn't have Christmas! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all
  4. Is it important that it matters to kids? Well, yeah! Aren't the kids the reason we are involved in this organization? At least that's the reason I'm involved. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all
  5. I'm still befuddled as to why a fashion designer was even used in the 1st place! It would make sense to have more than one uniform option. Dress & field come to mind. The current design is not a bad dress uniform. A more practical uniform should be designed for field use. And should be designed by someone who knows something about field uniforms. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all
  6. OK I stand corrected. But they are still members of the BSA. As far as Clintonian, remember he wanted to define the word "is". Just trying to draw the comparison but then art was never my strong point. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all

Dale, I'll tell you the same thing my basketball coach use to tell me - Suck it up! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all(This message has been edited by evmori)
  8. WOW! Only a couple of hours at a time! Yeah that'll solve the problem. Guess they don't need to talk to their kids. Stick them in front of the tube & close the door! Parents like these should be taken out back! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all
  9. If the uniform isn't required then how can it be anything other than optional? If you do wear it, there are rules for wearing it. But no one who is a BSA member is required to wear the uniform therefore making it optional. In my Troop, we encourage complete uniforming. I always wear mine to Troop meetings & outings. I love the uniform. But we in no way require each & every Scout & Scouter in our Troop to own one. That would be adding to the requirements & that isn't allowed. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

    The Uniform

dan, Yes I am proud to be an American. I love this country. I also fly a Pittsburgh Steeler flag during football season. I love the Steelers. I also love Scouting. Yes my neighbor is an American & proud to be one, too. He just isn't as showy as I am. Doesn't make him less of an American. The same can be applied to Scouting. Are the Scouts & Scouters who wear the uniform more proud of being Scouts & Scouters than those who don't? Are they better Scouts & Scouters? I think if you answer yes there is a problem. I remember watching the news & seeing a rebel in Cuba with a Scout shirt on! Had my CSP on, too! I don't think he was proud to be a Scouter. He was just happy to have a shirt. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. "Well, remember that the boy may be a member of a Venturing Crew, not a troop, and whatever he's wearing may be their uniform--or they may not have a uniform. " That may be true, but then the candidate is a Venturer, not a Scout, and the question used the word "Scout", which indicated membership in a Boy Scout Troop. A member of a Venturing unit is still a Scout! How Clintonian do you want to get? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. I'd bet frog #4 didn't have his official BSA socks on so the other 3 considered him unfit to be on the log! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. Boy Scouts is a uniformed organization. I thought Boy Scouts was a youth organization. The uniform is not optional. Ahh! But to be a member of the BSA one is not required to own a uniform. That makes it optional! Refusing to wear it, looking for excuses to not wear it, and complaining about it calls into question one's fitness to be a member. I've seen many a Scouter in uniform & question their fitness! You can't force anyone to wear the uniform. And by not holding BOR's or MB sessions because the Scout isn't in uniform is adding to the requirements. And that isn't allowed. Remember, the uniform is a method not a requirement. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. Short answer - No. Long answer - No. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Let's take this one step further. I fly the Stars & Stripes at my home. My neighbor doesn't. Does that make them less of an American? No. Does one have to fly a flag to be an American? No. But if one does fly a flag, there are rules that define the proper way to do it. The same holds true for the BSA uniform. No one is required to own one to be a BSA member but if the uniform is worn, there are rules that define the proper way to wear one. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. Yes I would sit on this board. This goes to the "You can't judge a book by its cover". This might be the absolute best Eagle candidate ever! If you judge a Scout based on what he wears then it sounds like you are the one with the Scout Spirit problem, not the Scout. Remember, Scout Spirit is living your everyday life according to the Scout Oath & Law. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. Vote no because of a lack of Scout Spirit? Because the Scout didn't wear something that isn't required? It sound like the lack of Scout Spirit is on the side of the adult, not the Scout. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Congrats and thank you many irons. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. Dan, I was a CM for three years & loved it! Enjoy! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. If a Scout joined the Troop today and we were leaving for summer camp today, he would be welcome to join us. In other words, there should be no waiting period. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. Based on the excerpt, it seems the SM is the one creating the problem. It sounds like the Scouts have a plan to deal with the problem & the SM won't let them. Not good. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. John-in-KC, Gotta agree! The dining halls should go! The summer camp we attend has a dining hall camp & a patrol cooking camp. We have always attended the patrol cooking camp. We refer to the other camp as the "3rd Year Webelos" camp. The Troops that attend this camp use the rational there is more time for the Scouts to devote to other things. To me, it's more of an excuse than anything. Boy Scouts should be cooking their own meals at summer camp. It helps develop their skills & leadership. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. Great list! Remember, we are in this for the boys! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  24. Adults that want to work with this youth program need to be trained because TRAINED leaders understand WHAT needs to be done, WHY it needs to be done, and HOW to do it. Our boys don't need adults stumbling in the dark. As accurate as this statement is, it in no way answers the question asked. The short answer to Are all registered leaders covered by the BSA insurance? is yes. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  25. While I agree the way this has been handled is really wrong I'm wondering if maybe there is another reason. Perhaps, the district or council is trying to increase the Venture numbers? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
