Perhaps I am alone in my thinking, but Jesus does not seem to be saying, Say, do, and believe as you please, I will still respect you. Rooster you aren't alone. I agree 100%. Not everyone is gets into heaven! Those that don't proclaim Jesus as their Lord & Savior & repent from their sins are , I'm afraid, left out. SR540Beaver, Right on the money! Blessings brother. Meechgalanne, Then you are adding to the requirements and that's a no-no. I agree that a Scout should wear his uniform to any BOR. And we as leaders should encourage wearing the uniform to all BOR's. Encourage not require. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all

Whether you regard him as Lord or merely a great teacher, Jesus calls you to respect (and love) everyone, even when they offend you, disrespect you, or cause you far worse harm. We are called to love one another. Love & respect are not the same thing. While I respect everyone's beliefs, I don't agree with everyone's beliefs. A blessed Christmas to you Eagle447.

Eamonn, No problem! I go to the Strip for the PA Macaroni House anyway! I have always thought of selling off assets as a last ditch effort before the cutting of salaries & elimination of jobs. And selling off camps that were the result of donations just seems like very poor management. We had a camping director who wanted to bulldoze a dining hall at on of the camps in our council. The volunteers got together, cleaned the place up & did a complete makeover of the dining hall & other buildings in the camp. Today, the dining hall is still there and fully functional! The camping director is gone. Rumor has it over money issues. I know this might not be what you want to hear, Eamonn, but maybe it's time to put our two councils together! Not sure if that's the answer, though. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all

And I wasn't "equating" the two issues, I only used the classic Anne Frank question to point out that lying isn't always wrong. Lying IS always wrong. There are times it might be justified as in the Anne Frank situation, but that doesn't make it right. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all

Merry Christmas would be very appropriate. If someone is offended, oh well! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all

Politically correct = wimping out. Merry Christmas Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all

Dan, I respect your beliefs. You are free to believe what you want. I don't agree with them but I don't have to. I don't know you. I have no idea if I should respect you as a person. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt since you are a Scouter, though. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all

Dan, What beliefs would I have to compromise? All of them. Respect to me is like trust. It needs to be earned. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all

do you think that you have earned the respect of Pagan scouters and scouts (and this Pagan in particular)? Do you think you have done your best to earn the respect of Jewish and Muslim scouts and scouters? Earned a pagan Scouters respect how? By compromising my beliefs? Or by caving in and saying I believe in something I don't? I have many Jewish Scouting friends and we have a mutual respect for each other. I don't know any Muslim Scouters so I can't answer that. Should those scouts and scouters extend respect to you and your beliefs if you have not earned it? I am a blunt & straight forward person. I am a devout Christian and not ashamed to let it show. If others respect that fine. If they don't fine. If you want to base who you respect on what is posted in these forums that's up to you. I prefer to meet someone face to face & spend some time whit them before I respect them or not. Doing anything less is shallow. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all

Merry Christmas. I don't like politics.

I think we put way too much emphasis on the uniform. I like it and wear it, but that's me. And since it isn't required, I feel we would be spending our time in a better fashion if we focused on the Scouts & not how they are dressed. After all, they are why we are members of this organization. At least that's why I am a member. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all

Does this Scout hold a POR? Has carried out the duties of the POR for 6 months? Are all of the other requirements completed? Does he show Scout Spirit? If the answer to all these is "yes" & he has completed his SM conference, then his BOR should be scheduled. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all

Rooster, You are so correct! OGE, I think Gern knows which day you are talking about. Although he seems to have the meaning of it completely wrong. Kudu, Cool planet? That's it? That's what I figured. Nothing! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all

These are the deeply meaningful traditions of December 25th that make this day uniquely the celebration of the god Saturn. The god Saturn? And pray, what does this god do that would make anyone want to celebrate it? The only one who doesn't understand the aspects of this holy day are those who don't believe in Christ. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all

If you decorate your home with images of Santa (aka Father Time), light candles, bring greens into your home, take time off from work, celebrate peace on earth, give gifts, help those less fortunate, or dance in the new solar year, you are celebrating Saturnalia, even though some people in this increasingly secular age have forgotten the true meaning of this holy day. Huh? Saturnalia was basically a sex & booze orgy! Christianity was a product of the Roman Empire, and we celebrated that with mangers and angels until the Christians lost the war on Christmas in 2005, didn't we? Huh? Christianity is founded on the life & teachings of Jesus Christ! And it's not a product! The Roman Empire died centuries ago. Christianity lives on forever! Kudu, You are so off the mark with your statements! It's scary! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all
-
If Christ was never born we would still be celebrating Saturnalia on December 25th And Saturnalia is celebrate where now? The Roman Empire no longer exists. Whereas Christianity does. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all

Am I the only one that does this?

I believe you are thinking of the god Saturn, Ed. Where in the Bible does it say that Jesus was born on December 25th? Your belief is wrong. Break down the word Christmas and you get Christ festival. Seems pretty apparent to me. Were Washington & Lincoln born on the 4th Monday in February? Was Marting Luther King born on the 3rd Monday in January? December 25th is the day we celebrate Christs birth. Same thing. So if Christ was never born we wouldn't have Christmas! What churches that do not share the BSA's "deeply-held" fundamentalist values? I think the one I am a member of holds the same values. And I think there are more just like mine than not. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all

An Anecdotal Training Experience
evmori replied to szekany's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
John-in-KC hit the nail on the head. Reading slides or just passing out information & asking for questions isn't training. An untrained chimp can do that! I'm still scared! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all -
I don't mean to rain on your parade, hops, but if you are involved in a school sport, the uniform of that sport is required. For Scouting, a uniform isn't a requirement. Big difference. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Christmas to all

I would get their names, addresses, phone numbers, e-mails, etc. and tell them someone will be in contact with them within the week to set up a get together to go over things & get the applications completed. Then do it! This will let the kids enjoy themselves & the parents a chance to "browse" your unit & leave the leadership free to do what they need to do.
