  1. BadenP, I don't bait. God never made a deal with the devil to torture Job. What God did was take His protection away from Job. I suggest you read some narratives about the OT. You will really be surprised with what you will find. And the OT is fact. You might not believe it and that's OK. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

  6. I don't know Gern. How did any non-swimming animal get concentrated in one area? I don't have the answers but dismissing something as myth simply because it seems impossible is very narrow thinking. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

  8. This appeared roughly 5 years ago on the CNN web site. The first evidence that humans lived in an area now covered by the Black Sea -- perhaps inundated by the biblical flood -- has been found by a team of explorers. "Artifacts at the site are clearly well preserved, with carved wooden beams, wooden branches and stone tools," lead researcher Robert Ballard said. "We realize the broad significance the discovery has and we're going to do our best to learn more," Ballard said in a telephone interview Tuesday from his ship off the northern coast of Turkey, west of the community of Sinop. Fredrik Hiebert of the University of Pennsylvania, the team's chief archaeologist, said the discovery "represents the first concrete evidence for occupation of the Black Sea coast prior to its flooding." "This is a major discovery that will begin to rewrite the history of the cultures in this key area between Europe, Asia and the ancient Middle East," Hiebert said. The remnants of human habitation were found in more than 300 feet of water about 12 miles off the coast of Turkey. From freshwater lake to saltwater sea Many ancient Middle Eastern cultures have legends of a great flood, including the Bible story of Noah. Columbia University researchers William Ryan and Walter Pittman speculated in their 1997 book "Noah's Flood" that when the European glaciers melted, about 7,000 years ago, the Mediterranean Sea overflowed into what was then a smaller freshwater lake to create the Black Sea. Last year Ballard found indications of an ancient coastline miles out from the current Black Sea coast. The new discovery provides evidence that people once lived in that now inundated region. Ballard, a National Geographic Society explorer in residence, said he studied shells found along the ancient coastline and found two types. One group is an extinct type of freshwater shell, while the second is from saltwater shellfish. The saltwater shells date from the present back 6,500 years, while the freshwater shells all date to 7,000 years ago and older. "So we know that there was a sudden and dramatic change from a freshwater lake to a saltwater sea 7,000 years ago," he said Tuesday. "And we know that as a result of that flood a vast amount of land went under water. "And we now know that land was inhabited. What we don't know is who these people are, we don't know how broad their settlements were ... but we're expanding our studies to try to determine that." Structures found in underwater river valley Ballard said his team, using remote-controlled underwater vessels with cameras, located a former river valley beneath the sea, and in the valley was the collapsed structure. Remains include preserved wooden beams that were worked by hand. The structure was "clearly built by humans," and was characteristic of stone-age structures built 7,000 years ago in the interior of Turkey, Ballard said. It contained a stone chisel and two other stone tools with holes drilled through them, he said. Nothing has been removed from the site. "When you first find a site you don't just run in there and start picking up things," he said. The group is now mapping the site and looking for other structures in the area. "This is a work in progress," Ballard said. "It is critical to know the exact era of the people who lived there, and to that end we hope to recover artifacts and wood for carbon dating so we can figure out what sort of people lived there and the nature of their tools." The discovery occurred within coastal waters of Turkey, whose Directorate of Monuments and Museums has a representative on the research vessel. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. Dan, What evidence do you have the walls of Jericho were not brought down the way the bible states they were? What evidence do you have that Noah & the Flood isn't fact? You want me to provide evidence yet you can't! Figures! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. Dan, Tell you what. I'll post proof of one of my statements. You come up with proof to refute it. Jericho In the 1930's, British archaeologist John Garstang discovered a collapsed double wall and dated it to about 1400 BC. Since this collapse was was followed by the city's destruction and abandonment, he inferred that it was the work of Joshua and the Hebrews. Many were pleased that the new science of archeology had validated the biblical story. But, in the 1950's, a series of excavations by British archaeologist Kathleen Kenyon led he to conclude that a mistake had been made. She contended that the city had been destroyed about 1550 BC and subsequently abandoned, and therefore there was no fortress city for Joshua to conquer. However, American biblical scholar Dr. Bryant T. Wood re-evaluated both her findings and those of Gerstang. In a Biblical Archaeological Review article entitled, "Did the Israelites Conquer Jericho?--A New Look at the Archaeological Evidence," Wood contends: "When we compare the archaeological evidence at Jericho with the biblical narrative describing the Israelite destruction of Jericho, we find a quite remarkable agreement." Thus, the walls that protected Jericho against attack were not only intact up to the time of its fall, but impressively so, just as the book of Joshua tells us. 11. nldscout hit it on the head! Sure they had an senior patrol to look up to. Now they are the senior patrol & expect respect just because they are the senior patrol! Respect is earned & it sounds like these guys have no clue how to do that. And since the older Scouts have aged out, they have no one to show them. Had the members of the 1st senior patrol worked with this group there might not be this problem. I would bust them up. They don't work well together & need a change. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. Ed, Bible stories are not fact, they are faith. If they were fact, they could be corroborated by other period sources. So there wasn't a great flood? The walls of Jericho never fell? The Jews never spent 40 years wandering around in the wilderness after Pharaoh set them free from Egypt? Joseph wasn't sold into slavery by his brothers? Thor was a mythical being. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. reverent - feeling or showing profound respect or veneration; "maintained a reverent silence" [ant: irreverent] 2: showing great reverence for god; "a godly man"; "leading a godly life" [syn: godly, worshipful] The BSA requires a member to believe in God. Once a member, the BSA requires a Scout to be reverent. Hope this clears things up. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. Religious stories or Bible stories are taught to children as fact. If a boy asks his dad about King Arthur, dad will say it's myth or legend. Bible stories come from a book with "Holy" on the cover. Maybe because the bible stories are fact & King Arthur is not? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. Did the exact same thing when I was in Cubs. Ended up teaching Pack Ceremonies at the University of Cub Scouting (precursor to University of Scouting in my area) & was asked back the next year. Loved every minute of it! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

  19. Everyone is offended by something or someone. There is no way to completely avoid it. Being courteous is no deliberately offending someone and I seriously doubt if the Boys Life is trying to deliberately offend someone. CORN-WOMAN: It was all too good to be true. Suddenly in the middle of the tribe appears this strange woman operating a snack shack - and she cooks an utterly delicious dish she calls 'corn'. Hmmm, no bones, no fat, no blood. What can it be? Time to spy on her through a crack in the shack. What's that she's scraping into the pot? Ewww! Boils! Sores! Corns! It's not corn on the cob, it's scorn on the scab. Her disgusted customers don't know quite what to do - the whole tribe have been consuming vast portions with great relish. When confronted, the unperturbed CORN-WOMAN says: "Bury the scrapings in the ground and edible plants will grow. I'll can teach you how to grow crops and you won't have to chase animals every time you get hungry." This might sound a little corny, but the CORN-WOMAN is so persuasive that husky braves are soon growing things in husks and eating out of her hand. But only after the medicine man has cured her warts. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  20. Well, an atheist would have to out right lie to become a member without anyone asking any question. As far as "don't ask don't tell" for gays, there is no policy that states someone must be asked if they are gay or straight so nothing violated here, either! Splitting hairs is fun! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. Does Berkley give free berthing to other groups that discriminate? If so, they are targeting the BSA. And what made them decide to change after 60 years? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

  23. Actually, I see the connection. A couple people are offended by something & decide to complain about it! That's the connection. And the result is usually we have to change things to accommodate the minority who is offended. And that, excuse my language, sucks! Just because a couple people are offended by stories in a publication they opt to read these few think these stories should be removed because they are offended! Too bad! Don't read it! You don't have the right to not be offended! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
