  1. Is this what you are looking for? It's in Every One of Us It's in every one of us to be wise Find your heart, open up both your eyes We can all know everything, without ever knowing why It's in every one of us by and by (last time: you and I)
  2. You must be kidding! Why is such a big deal being made about this song? And encouraging someone to sing it is hazing? Have we caved into to the PC crowd that much? funscout, Does anyone in your unit have a problem with this song? If a CM or CC wants to have announcements as part of their Pack meeting they can. There is nothing preventing it, but these announcements should be kept short & sweet. After all, this is probably the only time during a month when the entire Pack is together in one place. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. And do you believe in those gods, Merlyn?
  4. Inconsistent with what? You interpretation of the Constitution? There's a big surprise! Actually, the ruling was right on the money & in-line with the Constitution. And I would bet the "under God" ruling on the Pledge will be overturned. And who would those gods be, Merlyn? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. And if he is involved you have just conferred the highest award a youth can earn in the BSA to a criminal. Nope. If the lad is asked & won't or can't answer if he was involved, he waits till the case is resolved in court. From what I have read, this Scout was present during the incident & that in itself was a choice he made. And he must now live with the consequences of that choice. And if I am this Scouts SM, Scout Spirit would not be signed. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. Let's see! Merlyn wants equal right for atheists. At least that's what I think he wants. I really have no problem with that but it seems in order to get them Merlyn wants to remove God do he isn't offended. Well the Constitution doesn't guarantee you the right to not be offended. If you wan equal rights for atheist fine. But when you trample all over my rights to get them, that is wrong. And that is exactly what you are trying to do. Remove all references to God from government buildings because in your opinion, that endorses religion. Well, it doesn't! The Ten Commandments are still on the courthouse in Pittsburgh and there are many reference to God on the SCOTUS building. And if I were a betting man, I would bet they would stay right where they are. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. ALL references. Not just unlawful government-endorsed religious references. When I posted all references I meant government references. Sorry for the confusion. As to whether God is religion. Belief in God requires faith. Faith is religion. Faith is more than religion. Faith is also a confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing. So sure one must have faith to believe in God. But faith isn't exclusively religion. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. It's all about choices & the consequences of those choices.
  9. 9 pages of by-laws is 8 too many! There is no need to repeat what the BSA already has in place! I like your ideas, packwife. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. Let's see ......................... Removing a manger scene from court house steps but leaving the Menorah. Removing the Ten Commandments from government buildings. Taking "under God" out of the Pledge. That's removing references to God from the public. And that old line "I can't learn" is really nothing more than away for you to avoid addressing the real issue. God isn't a religion. So by having "under God" in the Pledge or "In God We Trust" on our currency or displaying the Ten Commandments on government buildings all that is being endorsed is God. Now if you associate God with a specific religion, fine! But that's your belief! Not the belief of most Americans. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. Congratulations Chipmunk. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 I use to be an Eagle ..........................
  12. The ACLU wants all reference to God removed from public display! Take it out of the Pledge and off our currency. Why? Somehow this is the establishment of a religion. God isn't a religion. Presbyterian, Jewish, Muslim, Catholic - those are religions. God is a being and there are many religions that believe in God. So having God on our currency isn't endorsing any religion. It is endorsing God. And that is not unconstitutional. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. If by-laws are put in place to cover things like dues, meeting times, use of permission slips, etc. then they can be useful. If they are used in place of what the BSA has in place, then they could be redundant & possibly adding to the requirements. That's not a good thing. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. Afternoon (where I am) Prairie! At some point, it does become a matter of the legitimacy of the source of the information. That's my point! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. The ACLU wants to change the Constitution and take God out of everyday life. The BSA has membership requirements. Atheists aren't allowed to join. They can be member of Spiral Scouts or the 4H Club or an outdoor club at school. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. Dreaded double post! Sorry(This message has been edited by evmori)
  17. Does it really matter, Ed? Yes it does matter. There are some people with really spiffy credentials who staunchly deny the Holocaust ever happened! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. I have two graduate degrees in theology and have studied with some of the most noted scripture scholars alive today. Where are these degrees from and who are these noted scripture scholars? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. If he is not allowed to discuss it, then he waits till the court case makes the determination of guilt or innocence to go any further. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. Here's my problem with this. It's general knowledge the Scout in question was arrested for whatever crime(s) was committed. If this Scout earns Eagle, that will be public knowledge. Same as general knowledge. And if this Scout is guilty of the crime(s) he was arrested for, that will be general knowledge. Same as public knowledge. And what happens the next time a Scout is arrested for something? How is being arrested for something and "living the Scout Oath & Law in your everyday life" not a problem for anyone? I really don't think being arrested for anything is living the Scout Oath & Law in your everyday life. This Scout might have all the requirements completed. But there is no Scout Spirit! If this Scout was in my Troop, I would ask him if he was guilty. If he is, end of discussion. If he isn't I would do everything in my power to help this Scout. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. Hmmm..... So Job wasn't a real person? This is just a story? Then why do some scholars believe Job himself wrote the book?
  22. There is no requirement for letters of recommendation. I don't have an Eagle application in front of me but I think the requirement is to list people who would be willing to recommend you for Eagle Scout. A phone call can be made to accomplish this and this is to be done by the advancement committee, not the Scout or his Troop. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. Based on the original post, everyone knows. Sure it's not in the paper! That's doesn't mean it isn't public knowledge. Ask. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  24. Wait a minute! If I'm not mistaken, it's public knowledge this Scout is involved in this crime. That makes it fair game! Ask him! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  25. If he is guilty no Eagle. And I see no problem in asking him. A Scout is trustworthy! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
