  1. ASM#1 - I wonder if he would feel the same way if this was his son? I don't agree with this solution. ASM#2 - Maybe but is there a need for the committee to be involved? ASM#3 - Horse Hockey! A disability doesn't give anyone carte blanche! Doesn't sound like you didn't lose much with ASM#1. I agree with the SM. Done, finished. If this happens again, then there needs to be consequences.
  2. So, people never, ever, change their religious opinions in your world, Ed? Opinion has nothing to do with this.
  3. The BSA was leasing the land for many many years below market rate according to the agreement they entered into.
  4. Sad.. I have heard of boys getting all the way to their EBOR, and then not getting Eagle award due to stating at the board he doesn't believe in God, or something that would define him as an atheist. What is sad is the Scout. Living a lie so he could get an award.
  5. What harm would there be if they did complete the online course?
  6. You were wrong OGE! It isn't the adult leader's fault! It's all the fault of Woodbadge! Practice makes perfect. We all forget stuff if we don't do it. Keeping skills like knots and lashings in the forefront will help.
  7. If those knots and hitches are used regularly by the Scout, no it's not unreasonable. Scouts do tend to forget things they don't do regularly.
  8. Stosh, May I recommend a 50 gal water drum, aka your fire bucket filler, and Dawn soap. Add soap to water and DUNK. LOL Why dirty a perfectly good fire bucket?
  9. Not changing his socks for a week? Because no one told him to? Did someone tell him to eat & sleep & put his shoes on? This has nothing to do with Scouting! This is all about parenting!(This message has been edited by evmori)
  10. The scout is responsible for their own advancement, not the leaders. I couldn't have said it any better. The adult leadership is in place to provide the opportunities for the Scouts to advance. It is up to the Scouts to take advantage of these opportunities.
  11. It's real easy. Don't recharter this guy. Tell him his services are no longer need in any capacity in the unit. You will lose his kid but sometimes this happens.
  12. And it is entirely possible that if the city required th3 $200,000, the new renter could sublet to the BSA at no charge!
  13. I think it's cyclical. All large organizations like the BSA go though this. This has happened before and it will happen again. I do like OGE's explanation, though.
  14. I'm betting the membership decline is one of those cyclical things. It will hit an up swing again and it will decline again. So no it doesn't chap my shorts. Next win in court by the BSA will be the Balboa Park case. I know you posted it Merlyn. That was a general comment!
  15. Don't ya love it when the light goes on in their heads!
  16. Way too many training classes! BALOO is a waste! All this type of training could be done in a couple weekends. Get everyone together and train on the stuff that applies to everyone. Then have breakout sessions for the specifics.
  17. I agree with Stosh. And I would get a bigger coffee pot regardless! You can never have to much coffee!
  18. If the unregistered parents want to go camping with the Troop I would let them know they are going as observers only. If that isn't agreeable, then they don't go.
  19. The way I see it is if it's isn't programed for them, they don't know how to do it! Let me explain. Do you see kids playing pick up games of football or baseball or anything? I think kids today don't know how to create their own entertainment. If they aren't playing in an organized sports league or on their computer or gaming device they are lost. Just my couple of pennies of input. Ed
  20. I don't think it was the post that was twisted LIBob. I think it's the poster.
  21. I love technology. I think it's great. But it does have it's place and that isn't at summer camp. Movie night????? Laptops??? If you can't get away from this stuff for one week, then it's time to find a 12 step program to get over your addiction.(This message has been edited by evmori)
  22. Ev, I have allways stated that partials were fine. I am talking about a boy showing up once and scheduling but not showing up again type. Wasting a persons time is not someone trying. It is someone NOT trying. I am not sure how you got partial as wasting time but I never said that partials were wasting anyones time. YiS, Rick Still a sad comment, in my opinion. Ed
