  1. What's he doing? Since he usually gets his own way it is possible there is aggressive behavior going on that needs dealt with. Then again, the other Scouts might be the type who can dish it out & can't take it. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. Yins is funny! Sure hope yer all heading to confession! Or for those who aren't Catholic, asking for forgiveness! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. Who's Eagle project is this? The Scout's or his parents? Scouts turn in Eagle projects, not parents. Who gave the approval to start the project? Where has this Scout been? Like HopewellT8SM posted, it's time to document document document! I would do nothing except document what you have done to this point. It's up to the Scout to contact the Troop, not the Scout's parents. Do nothing until the Scout does. The ball is in his court. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  4. Never said I didn't respect Lisa's beliefs. I just think using G-d instead of God is disrespectful. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. I feel it is more disrespectful to us G-d than God, L-sa. Usually, words vulgarity is depicted that way in forums and I don't consider God a vulgar word. How would you spell Jesus? Holy Spirit? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. Novice, Thanks for the info but the word is still God not G-d. G-d is taking the Lord's name in vain more than using God! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. Ya can't teach common sense. All the BSA needs to have in writing is "No bullying allowed". No need to give an explanation for bullying or what happens if there is a bully. Let the unit deal with that when it happens. In this case, the Scout should be suspended or expelled from the Troop. In the Troop Committee doesn't agree, then there is a real problem with the committee. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. There is little or nothing in BSA trainings about administering discipline or how to handle a bully. Perhaps there should be. No need to have training on it. The discipline should fit the crime & a bully should be suspended or expelled from the Troop. What we don't need is more wishy-washy BSA regs that don't really deal with the problem! What we need is adult leaders to be adult leaders & not tolerate this type of behavior. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. If a Scout came to me as a MB counselor in this situation, I would make sure he knew what he was supposed to know & do what he was supposed to do for the MB he lost the blue card for. In my unit, we don't give the Scouts their blue cards after summer camp. We complete the advancement report, purchase the MB's & return their portion of the blue card along with the MB at the next COH. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. Atta boy Gern! We sucked in the downhill! Apolo fell down! Took gold & silver in the 1/2 pipe & gold in the 5K speed skating! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. I agree. Put as much of the basic training material on-line. But, there are other training sessions that are more effective with real people. Scoutmaster Fundamentals for one. If people are really interested in being a leader for the boys, they will take the time to attend the training. Those who use the excuse "I don't have the time" should have never signed up in the 1st place. When I completed the leader application, I headed straight for the training courses. Learned tons! Had so much fun I decided I wanted to help others learn what I learned! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. 60 day suspension from all Troop activities! Nothing less. And he would only be able to return after the adult leadership meets with this boy & his parents to determine if he is still a threat to the other Scouts in the Troop. If he is, he's gone. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. So far, it seems that the reason for people not attending training is more because of inconvenience not course quality. We need to remember, these are not pros giving the courses, they are volunteers just like us. I was on my district training staff for 5 years & loved every minute of it. As soon as I found out what I was presenting, I started working on my presentation. And there were quite a few times where I was called on to fill in at the last minute. I always gave my best! And we never held training during the day. It was always at night or the weekends. Remember, the volunteers who give the training have jobs, too. And the best time for them is at night or weekends! If they are willing to sacrifice their time, you should be willing to sacrifice yours. Being too busy is an excuse and nothing more. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. If whether you have your QU unit patch on the correct sleeve is more important than anything else, then there is a problem! Even the BSA doesn't care (look at the new catalog)! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. Folks this is sport! Not politics! I though Yoko Ono was great! Imagine was a perfect song for the games! The opening ceremonies were great! Very innovative! And I hate opera but Pavarotti was great! And very appropriate! Get a life! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  16. The scout has served 2 terms as ASPL, and would have had to be active to successfully have completed the terms. You don't know this. Maybe he didn't do a thing. It's possible since he has only attended 17 Troop meetings in 18 months. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. OK. This Scout has been Life for 18 months (1 1/2 years). In that time he has attended 44% of the campouts (1/month) & 21% of the Troop meetings (1/week). Plus Philmont, JLT, etc. What has he done as ASPL? How many PLC's has he attended? How many PLC's has the Troop held in these 18 months? How has he shown leadership in the Troop? Again, it's all about choices. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Here's a link to a MIDI file. http://members.aol.com/StanDCmr/firstcs.html Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. Get the form filled out & get it into your council. Accept whatever the council gives this boy & the unit or mom or someone needs to pony up the difference and get the boy to camp. Oh yeah, if the boy decides not to go, YOU MUST inform your council so his campership can go to someone else & have the boy write a thank you letter to the council. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. I'm in the same camp as SR540Beaver on this. It's all about choices. If he really wants his Eagle, he needs to make a choice. It's great that your son is so involved in so many things. But it's time to decide what is most important. You won't find a definition of active in any BSA literature that I know of. It is up to each unit to determine what active is. My son played football & was involved in stage crew during high school & remained active in his Troop. He wasn't at every meeting or outing but he did make time for Scouts and he earned his Eagle. He made his choice. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. To those who state the training in their area is poor.......... What is poor about it? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 Steelers Super Bowl Champions!
  22. You might be using the Troop Method.... if the adults are planning everything.
  23. Instead of being a blue L or a red C may I please be a green I? Thank you
  24. If training isn't required you will always have people who are too busy. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 Here We Go Steelers~
