  1. What it sounds like is a total mess! Once again the BSA initiates a program without thinking it through! Figures! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. sunsetandshadow, Welcome. And there are those who accept the Theory of Evolution as fact and think we Christians are crazy! I agree with you 100%. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. Does anyone else here remember when WeBeLoS meant: WOLF...Bear...Lion...Scout??? We'll Be Loyal Scouts. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  4. Yes sit on the sidelines and watch and no patch. And the baseball team analogy fits perfectly! Little leaguers are Cub Scout age. And if Johnny is a member of the team he can play. Sister Suzie can't if she isn't a member. Are the siblings being chartered by the Pack? Do they pay den dues? I doubt it. Then why should they get the benefit of being a member of the Pack? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. Cub Scouts is family oriented but to be a youth member, one must be a boy. Girls are not allowed to join. They can tag along & watch just like mom & dad but the activities are for the members. When I was a Cubmaster, we had lost of sisters of Cub Scouts attend our activities but they were limited to observers. And giving out patches non-members really defeats the whole purpose of being a member! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. When Johnny has a little league baseball game does the sister who is not on the team get to play in the game or does she have to watch from the stands? Cub/Boy Scouts are the same thing. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. While I'm all for family, Cub Scouts is for boys & not girls. Letting girl siblings participate at the same level as their Cub Scout brother is wrong. They should be allowed to tag along but as observers only. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. There was a really good show with Sir Paul at Apple Studio on PBS the other night!
  9. If the adult wearing the Cub uniform is now a registered leader in a Boy Scout Troop, they are out of uniform as well. I stand by my previous post. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. There are really a lot more important things to worry about than if you should be wearing a Trained patch or not. I would be more concerned with what will I bring to the Troop & what more do I need to learn. Sure we as adults should be setting the example by being correctly uniformed. But since the Trained strip you are wearing is for you Cub Scout position, you could explain that to the Scouts in your Troop & tell them you are working on getting trained so you can wear a Trained patch for your new position. And once you are trained for you Troop position, put on a new Trained patch & retire the old one. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. We have cooked separately or eaten with the patrols. Depends on what we are doing & what the patrol menus are. At summer camp, the adults always eat with the patrols. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. An agnostic & an atheist are not the same. An agnostic believes in a higher power but isn't sure about it. An atheist doesn't believe in any type of higher power. And yes we had this discussion before! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. Umm, is reselling Trails End popcorn allowed by Trails End? If so, how much are they selling it for? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  14. The signers on the checking account can sue. They have standing. They are the keepers of the unit's funds. Take 'em to court! They stole from the unit & deserve the hassle! If you do nothing, you are condoning this action & it could happen again! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. What do you do? You go to the local magistrate & file a lawsuit against them. That will get their attention! Technically, this is theft. And all court costs will be paid by the thief. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. We always tell the Scouts & parents at our summer camp meeting the Scout will be taking a shower on Wednesday evening and Friday evening. And a leader walks them to the shower house & waits outside until they have showered. There is no excuse for not showering at summer camp. I shower every day & so do the other adults. Setting the example so to speak. And being clean. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. "What message does it send? We don't like long winded announcements!" What it says is "We don't care what you have to say and don't want to hear it, so shut up." It's simply rude to say that to someone that wants to talk to you. Guess it's all in the interpretation. And now singing a song at a Pack meeting is rude! That's it! No more fun in Cub Scouts! Everything from now on will be serious and any type of humor will not be tolerated! Where will it end! Good grief! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. You weren't suppose to tell, Semper The words in the original post are mild and the whole point of the song is "Keep It Short & Sweet". Anything else is something read into the song by someone else. Like I said, there are way more important things in Scouting than worrying if this song offends someone. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. What message does it send? We don't like long winded announcements! Harsh! I just think there are more important things to concentrate on. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. If we're gonna say this song should be not be used because it borders on swearing or bring rude, then we shouldn't be letting Scouts or adult leaders say "Oh my God!" or we should stop letting Scouts do the "Pink Panzi Motorcycle Gang" skit because it encourages beating people up! The list could be endless! Or we could do nothing about the song & concentrate more on the really important stuff in Scouting & I'd bet the kids would realize the song is just in jest! And BTW, I wouldn't watch South Park! It is foul, vulgar & crude! Not fit for man or beast! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. All this over a song! No wonder there are so many problems! It's just a song, people! It's not meant to be offensive! It's called satire. If we would spend this much time on helping boys make ethical decisions we would have excellent young leaders! This song has nothing to do with ethics. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. Has anyone thought of using paper plates? Minimal clean up & can be burned. When we don't use paper, we use the 2 tub method. I wash i rinse. Sanitizer tablets in the rinse. Air dry. No one has gotten sick yet! Doubt if anyone will. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. Sounds like it's time for some "secret squirrel" stuff from the adults. Next time there is a possibility for this type of behavior to start, check it out on the sly. Try to get some 1st hand info as to what is happening. I'm a pretty good judge of kids, too. And from what you have posted, ASM59, it's either a conspiracy by the other Scouts or HE is really good! I'd bet on the conspiracy theory. Either way, good luck! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  24. Doesn't say where or to whom he said it. But, why would he say that after the game. Did he feel guilty about the call going their way when in his heart he knew he didn't make a touchdown? We'll never know, I guess. Ben was being honest! Refreshing isn't it! Did he feel guilty? About what? He didn't make the call. He's not responsible for the call that was made! If you want to know, ask him. I'm sure he will tell you. He's a stand up guy. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
