  1. The Cooking merit badge was completed in three sessions? How was that done? It isn't possible. It sounds like the Scoutmaster has a legitimate concern. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. OGE, You are correct about the SM conference but I did not state Scout Spirit is how a Scout lives his life outside of Scouting. It's how he lives his everyday life in and out of Scouting. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. I read fine Merlyn. You just can't dance real well. You're basing your statements on numbers that aren't factual! If they were, you would be able to site a source better than "inside BSA national". That could be a janitor who works there! But then again, not having the facts have never stopped you from slandering the BSA & it's members. You certainly are a classless act, Merlyn. Wait! Didn't you post the statement The The actual losses will probably be higher was from your pals web site. Ten you posted The statement The actual losses will probably be higher came from your 1st post Merlyn. Ed, by "actual losses" I was referring to losses due to the BSA losing public schools as chartering organizations, because at the end of 2005 there were still public schools chartering units, so the losses for losing those schools won't show up until next year. Make up your mind! Hoedown time! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  4. The SM assigns the counselor. It's in the SM Handbook & BS Handbook. And the blues card or whatever color you use is signed by a "unit leader" when the Scout has completed the requirements. The second signature is nothing more than an acknowledgment by the unit the Scout has completed the requirements. The key is the Scout obtains the name of the counselor from the SM at the time he decides on the MB he wants to work on. We have over 200 MB counselors in my district. Their approval or denial as MB counselors is the job of my DAC. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. Dug, And if the Scout showed up for his BOR in a suit & tie you would turn him away? Sure wearing the uniform shows pride. But what does that have to do with Scout Spirit? Scout spirit is living the Oath & Law in your everyday life. John, I would & have sat on BOR's (other than Eagle) for Scouts I don't know. I have no problem doing that. I actually think all BOR's should be with people who are not familiar with the Scout. A Scout showing up for a BOR without a uniform doesn't prevent the asking of open-ended questions. Using the uniform as an excuse to ask open-ended questions is just that, an excuse. What else does your unit add to the advancement requirements? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. Dug, Good point. But Scout Spirit is way more than wearing the uniform. Requiring a uniform for BOR's is adding to the requirements. A Scout doesn't even need to own a uniform to be a Scout! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. While we request a Scout show up for his BOR in uniform, making it a requirement is adding to the requirements which isn't allowed. I'm not sure what our success rate is. I would say it is less than 100% an above 80%. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. The statement The actual losses will probably be higher came from your 1st post Merlyn. And it shows up nowhere on the page of the link you posted. And your statement The BSA has lost nearly 1/4 of their cub scout membership since the late 1990s, when the right-wingers in charge made it clear to the public that the BSA was a discriminatory organization. indicates the numbers posted on the link you posted are 100% accurate when you know they aren't. And if there is a decline in total youth available, the BSA numbers will decline, too. The percentages might be different but stating one doesn't effect the other is just not true. Mambo time! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. The actual losses will probably be higher So you yourself are stating the numbers are not actuals. And this statement still confuses me. As you can tell, there has been no decline in the overall number of boys available to join BSA from 1995-2002, and the declines in 2003-2004, do not correlate with BSA's declining numbers. If there are less youth available, they will effect the BSA numbers. Bad spin! Wait for the cha-cha~ Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. Miki101, That's all Merlyn know to do. He's great on posting estimates & so called facts & passing them off as fact. Then when he is asked to back them up he resorts to a personal attack & attempts to get you to re-focus on some trivial part of a post that was accurate. Brent, Now that's what I call a decline! Shows that if we let gays & girls in the BSA the same is likely to happen & that would be the end of the BSA! But then who would Merlyn pester? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. The choice was made when the legs were spread. Explain this. A pregnant woman is shot & killed & her unborn child also dies. The shooter is charged with two murders. A doctor performs an abortion and the unborn child dies. The doctor is paid for his/her services. What's the difference? Why isn't the doctor charged with murder? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. Yeah right! An unnamed BSA source. There's credibility! Don't forget the big recruitment push isn't until fall so numbers from April 2005 would be lower than compared to year end 2005 numbers. And I don't believe these have been released as of yet. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. And let's not forget the start of this thread was a claim of a 400,000 drop in BSA membership. and let's not forget these numbers were based on an estimate of an estimate but presented as fact. Burr meet saddle! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. Thanks Trevorum. It seems there is a lot of experience on these forums. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. If all the proper BSA paperwork was completed by the unit for the fundraiser and it was approved, what's the problem? Sounds like this new exec has a bone to pick & you are the ones he is gnawing on. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. Excellent point OGE! The only reason abortion was ever legal is because it's a medical procedure! A murderous medical procedure but still a medical procedure! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. It's still Saturday where I am McFly!
  18. There will never be an agreement as to the beginning of life. Some believe it is at the time of conception (me included). Others believe it is when the baby is physically born. I don't think these two sides will ever come to an agreement. If a pregnant woman is shot & killed & her unborn child dies as a result of the gunshot, the shooter is charged with two murders. If the same woman decides to get an abortion & ends the life of her unborn child, that's OK. The difference, abortion is a medical procedure. Nothing else. And partial birth abortion is even worse. Gern posted Currently, it is after birth, when the child is independent of the mother. regarding when life starts. After birth, a child is not independent of it's mother! If the mother does nothing the child dies and she can be charged with murder so you argument is invalid. Don't back down from your original statement OGE. You were 100% correct. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. Thanks for doing this Trevorum. I hope you will share the results with us when you have tallied them. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. Ahh the Crown Royal bag! When I was a kid I kept my marbles in a Crown Royal bag! No one ever questioned where I got it or what was in it. Times have changed! In this instance, it's a sad thing. In others, change is good. What is my value? I would suggest you ask the Scouts & other leaders in your unit. They would be a better gage on that. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. We can only be there for the boys that want to be there. In your scenario, Timmy would not be called at rechartering time since he already indicated he no longer wanted to be a member. If he changes his mind, he is always welcome to come back. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. Ollie is a criminal! Having him as a spokesman for the BSA is not a good thing. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. I don't think walking Scouts to the shower house and waiting till they have showered is teaching them a darn thing. Actually it teaches them a couple things. 1) Cleanliness 2) We follow our camp policy which is an adult from the unit must accompany a group of Scouts to the shower house. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  24. Where does it say that? Right here! "(1) The source of these numbers is the Population Estimates Program, Population Division, US Census Bureau. As the percentage of girls in Venturers is small, only males (age 5-17) are included in this column. As you can tell, there has been no decline in the overall number of boys available to join BSA from 1995-2002, and the declines in 2003-2004, do not correlate with BSA's declining numbers. The estimate for 2005 has yet to be released." The estimates haven't been released let alone the actuals! Once again Merlyn posting based on conjecture not real facts! Pay no attention to the numbers Meryln posted. They have no basis. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  25. Brent, Thanks for shedding some light on the incessant rants of a loon! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
