  1. If he needs to do the swimming test wearing a PFD, so be it! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. You are so right OGE! We skipped the light fandango turned cartwheels 'cross the floor I was feeling kinda seasick but the crowd called out for more The room was humming harder as the ceiling flew away When we called out for another drink the waiter brought a tray And so it was that later as the miller told his tale that her face, at first just ghostly, turned a whiter shade of pale She said, 'There is no reason and the truth is plain to see.' But I wandered through my playing cards and would not let her be one of sixteen vestal virgins who were leaving for the coast and although my eyes were open they might have just as well've been closed Excellent! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. Outdoor skills should be taught at the Boy Scout level. There isn't much of a need at the Cub level. Why not combine all the specific training into a two weekend course? The way we did our Basic Leader Training was a Saturday indoor session with breakouts by job (SM, ASM, CC, etc.). Everyone was placed into a patrol & they elected a PL. Each patrol was given materials to make a patrol flag & they needed a patrol cheer. A couple week later the outdoor session took place. It was an overnighter starting Friday evening. Each patrol was required to function the same way a patrol in a troop was to function. There were skills competition & various outdoor skill demonstrations during the day. It was a great time & an excellent learning tool. And it covered a lot! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Easter to all!
  4. He is Risen! A blessed Easter to all! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. I will miss you. It's always good to have a Brother in Christ in these forums & I have always considered you that. Peace, Mike. A blessed Easter to you & yours. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. This is one of the reasons I don't like the new specific courses. Too much tunnel vision! The BSA needs to get back to teaching outdoor skills to the adults! How is an ASM supposed to help a Scout with his outdoor skills if the adult hasn't got a clue? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  7. We all are God's children. But not all of use consider God our Father. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. I got a better idea - why not charge those who chose to abort their unborn child with murder?
  9. Hey Ed, glad you agree that your March numbers don't affect the credibility of the numbers I posted for end of year 2005; your earlier post seemed to imply otherwise. That's not what I posted. What I posted was My posting any membership numbers will neither add credibility or take away from the credibility of the numbers you posted. Why? They are from a different point in time. I still doubt the credibility of your numbers for 2005. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. My posting any membership numbers will neither add credibility or take away from the credibility of the numbers you posted. Why? They are from a different point in time. Tell you what, Merlyn, you get your reliable source to supply you with membership numbers as of 3/31/2006 by Tigers, Total Cubs, Total Boy Scouts, Total LFL & grand total & then I will post what I have. How's that sound? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. And you would think the accusing parents would be a little more understanding since it seems they have gone through the same thing. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. I love Molly Hatchet! I am slowly rebuilding my album collection on CD. Just picked up Chicago II! And lest we not forget, Slim Whitman!
  13. No Merlyn I don't think the difference I posted is 177,000. I know it is. The membership numbers I have are just over four million total members. Like I posted, it is lower but the decrease is less than half of your "reliable" source. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. Gern, You asked if the decisions were different from my opinion. I answered. Now you are changing the criteria. The Skokie case comes to mind! Do I want to hear Nazi's spewing hate? No. But they have the right to say what ever they want. If I don't want to hear them, I don't have to listen. Merlyn, If those people moved I doubt if there would it would be an issue at the next election. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. Merlyn, The numbers I have as of March 2006 show a total decrease of 177,000 or roughly 4%. And total unit down roughly 2%. Significantly different from your "reliable" source. You seem to be missing the point. BSA membership is dynamic. It can change monthly. The key to looking at the numbers is to make sure they are the same time frame i.e. March 2005 to March 2006. And since these membership numbers are dynamic, getting caught up in 3 month old numbers if useless and pointless. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. I love Jethro Tull! Ian Anderson plays a mean flute! My Explorer - my music. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. I always answer the door when the Mormons show up! I've gotten into some very spirited discussions with these young men! These guys know there bible & Book of Mormon! But they do take offense when you tell them they are a cult & not Christians. Sometimes they get downright ps**ed off! Mormons think they ARE Christians And suicide bombers think they are doing good! Both are wrong. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Gern, Without actually doing your little test, I would guess there would be the same number of stones in each hat. Merlyn, The other 49% would have to drum up support for the next election. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. The numbers I have are for March 2006 & they are compared to March 2005 and there is a decline but it is less than 1/2 of what Merlyn posted from his "reliable" source. And yes they are different than the other sets of numbers posted here already. You need to remember membership numbers are dynamic. Different area charter at different times & there are new boys joining throughout the year. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. The numbers for the end of March show a drop of less than half of what Merlyn's "reliable" source has. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. Wait a minute! Didn't the ruling deal with the BSA being a religious organization? If so, by arguing equal access would have nothing to do with the original ruling. There would have to be another case. Am I correct? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. Gern, Yes that is my interpretation. But by ruling that chartering a BSA unit or funding a BSA unit is establishing a religion is legislating from the bench. Why, because chartering a BSA unit or funding a BSA unit isn't establishing anything let alone a religion! The BSA isn't a religion! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. Gern, Nope. Ya got it wrong. There is nothing in the Constitution that prevents the government for chartering or aid in funding of the BSA. And when a judge rules there is a violation of the Constitution like this, it is legislating from the bench. Now, if there was something in the Constitution that did prevent this, then it would be interpreting the law. What I believe doesn't come into play. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  24. Longhaul asks some very good questions! I don't think 51% of Americans would vote the remove all religious displays at Christmas or to stop school prayer or prevent the DOD from handling the BSA Jamboree. SCOTUS & other judges are to interpret the law, not legislate from the bench. That's where the problem is coming from. Longhaul, I would categorize you as a good question asker! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  25. The LDS use the Book of Mormon as their bible which is an interpretation of the Bible by Joseph Smith. So while they consider themselves Christians, they really aren't. They have many cult like characteristics. It seems the banner ad at the top of the page is driven by the thread you are reading. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
