It's Me, Why does there have to be a return on you investment? Are you in this for yourself or the boys? If you are in this for yourself, then you are in this for the wrong reason and you should get out. But just because you going to end your involvement in Scouting doesn't mean your son needs to. After church this morning, an Advancement Chair from another Troop as me an interesting question. It seems there is a Scout in his Troop who has a spastic leg disorder and can't swim because of this. He has already talked to our District & Council Advancement Chairs & has gotten permission for the Scout to do an alternative for the swimming requirements for 2nd & 1st Class ranks. However, both chairs want to know what will be substituted for the swimming requirements. The question posed to me was "What could be used that is of equal importance?" I told him this is the 1st time I ever heard of this I would look into it for him. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

LongHaul, No I wouldn't move to Canada. I would work to get it repealed! We the Americans are not the evil ones! We didn't fly planes into buildings killing thousands for no reason! Can the SWIMMING REQUIREMENT for ANY RANK be WAIVED ? A Troop Committe in our DISTRICT has done this due to high levels of anxiety on the part of the SCOUT. Shouldn't this just be a wait until SCOUT "GROWS" into swimming and looses his fear ? Waive the swimming requirement because of anxiety? Maybe we should waive the identifying plants requirement because the Scout live in the city & there are no plants there. Or let's just waive all the requirements & pass out ranks willy nilly! At summer camp, we don't allow pop, candy or snacks before dinner. Reason? Everyone gets 3 meals per day. It might not be gourmet food but it is nutritional. Candy, snacks & pop aren't. Sports drinks & water are allowed & we always have a full jug of bug juice. After dinner, the Scouts are allowed to hit the trading post for pop & candy & snacks. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

All parents don't need to be on the Troop committee. Sometimes too many people isn't a good thing. To be effective, the TC needs to have the interest of all the Scouts at heart. Those not on the committee can help where needed. Too many chiefs & no Indians is not a good thing! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

There is nothing in the requirements for the swimming merit badge that prohibits wearing a PFD. The only requirements that would need modified are 4, 7, 8 & 9. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
