  1. Ed, I see you didn't answer my challenge. In the story of the women visiting the empty tomb in the Gospels, how many people/angels are in the tomb? How do you explain this contradiction? No contradiction. Four accounts of the same story. Second, the Qu'ran is also the word of God as given to Mohammed, so should we also follow those precepts? I really don't know much about this book so I won't comment. Third, (and in this thread more importantly), do you believe that the Bible should be used to determine BSA policy at a national level? Used to determine policy? Don't know if the Bible has been used this way. I know many have used it to defend certain policies. But to answer your question, no. Bobanon, Amuse me. I'm from Missouri. Show me! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. Gotta agree, FScouter. You are 100% correct! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. Ed extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. And your evidence that the Bible isn't infallible, Bobanon, is what? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  4. Sew it on the flap of your Scouting cargo pants!
  5. What is FWIW? Title to a Buffalo Springfield song! "There's something happenin' here" "What it is ain't exactly clear" Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. And Ed this is Genesis 1:27 God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Maybe you don't know the bible like you claim. You certainly don't know the history of your religion, but then you shouldn't feel bad. I have found very few fundamentalist who do. Thank, Bobanon. I am familiar with the verse. Apparently you aren't. Now go to Genesis 2:18-23. Same story but with more details. Remember, these are two versions of the same story. I am not a fundamentalist nor do I play one on TV. Just knowing where the the verses are in the Bible doesn't mean you understand them. One has to study. Sorta like school! Ya study ya learn! Ya don't study, ya have to do extra credit to get that D to a C! And the Bible isn't infallible because I believe it is. It is because it is God's word. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  7. Creation - two different accounts of the same story. What inconsistencies? Creation of Eve - Genesis 1:27 has nothing to do with the creation of Eve. There are over 250,000 types of beetles now. How many where there then? Ummm, God wrote the 10 Commandments. The Four Gospels were written by four different people. Each is from their own perspective. No contradiction. Those who don't believe the Bible is God's word 100% true always point out these so-called contradictions but they never have any facts to back them up. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. Yep, LongHaul, we could go on and on about this. But the fact remains that there is no leadership requirement for service projects for rank other than Eagle. And a SM requiring leadership from a Scout on a service project for rank other than Eagle is adding to the requirements. Not an opinion. A fact. And if a Scout would appeal this, he would win 100% of the time. Bevah, Ya missed the before this recently added requirement. So adding this requirement accomplished nothing. And I have to wonder how boy-led this Troop is. It is starting to sound like an Eagle mill. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. Some liberal Christians using the connotations of some of the Hebrew phrasing in 2 Sam 1 do believe that David & Jonathan were romantically linked. Actually, as Ive asked in a few other threads Im curious about some things the Bible interprets as immoral such at women in public without hats (Corinthians) and women leaders (Romans) are accepted by BSA Scouters yet homosexuality is not by those same Scouters. Seems a bit inconsistent to me. Liberal being the key word. SaintCad, I would suggest before you claim there are inconsistencies in the Bible you actually study it. If you do, you will find the inconsistencies go away & realize the inconsistencies are in the religious denominations. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. SaintCad, What is the point of your scriptural reference 2 Samuel 1:26? Are you inferring the Bible is endorsing homosexuality? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. LongHaul, I understand your point. But by a SM or TC requiring leadership in a service project other than an Eagle Project is adding to the requirements. It's the same as requiring a full uniform for the BOR. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. Hunt, You certainly have an unusual why of applying things. My morality comes from my upbringing and the Bible. To me, homosexuality is an immoral lifestyle. Why? The Bible, which is the Word of God, tells me so. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. Duplicate post.(This message has been edited by evmori)
  14. Ed, the difference between your two conversations is that one starts with a rude and improper question, and the other doesn't. I can't understand why you refuse to see this. It is like the difference between asking, "Tell me about how you earned the Camping merit badge," and "Did you lie to the counselor to get the Camping merit badge?" Now, if you ask a boy how he earned the Camping merit badge, and he confesses he lied to get it, you'd have to deal with that--and if you ask him how he does his duty to God, and he confesses he doesn't believe in God, you'd have to deal with that too. But a BOR is not an inquisition. Do you believe in God? is a rude and improper question? I don't agree. Asking "Did you tell the truth when you signed your application?" is a rude and improper question. Asking "Do you believe in God?" is not inferring there is not a belief present. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. Ed, again leadership is not exspressly excluded. Take part in does not exclude the leaders. No it doesn't exclude leadership or leaders. What it does exclude is the necessity to provide leadership to complete the requirement. Is the scout getting credit for an Eagle project participating in that project? No. The Scout would be getting credit for service hours for rank. How can you complete an Eagle project you didn;t participate in? LongHaul, you're getting things confused. For ranks below Eagle, all a Scout needs to do is participate in a service project that has been approved by his SM. This might be an Eagle project or it might not be an Eagle project. For the rank of Eagle, a Life Scout needs to show leadership in his Eagle project. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  16. Barry, I like your line of thinking. This is sort of like the SM Conference requirement where all a Scout needs to do is Take part in a Scoutmaster conference. This requirement reads While a Star Scout, take part in service projects totaling at least six hours of work. These projects must be approved by your Scoutmaster. and is further defined For Star and Life ranks, a Scout must perform six hours of service to others. This may be done as an individual project or as a member of a patrol or troop project. Star and Life service projects may be approved for Scouts assisting on Eagle service projects. The Scoutmaster approves the project before it is started. There are 3 key words - take part in - which means the Scout participates but leadership isn't required. Requiring leadership in a service project from a Scout for any rank except Eagle is adding to the requirements and is forbidden. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. The other issue is the requirement doesn't state the Scout must lead or show leadership to complete the requirement. If a SM is requiring this, he/she is adding to the requirement and that is a BIG no no. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Nope. That would be adding to the requirements which isn't allowed. Nope. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. Actually, homosexual couples can't procreate with each other the same way most traditional married couples can. And procreating outside of the family is, well, having an affair! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. But as you are the one making the implied assertion that homosexuals cannot represent "family values", what exactly is it that they cannot do? Homosexuals can't procreate. My definition of family values centers around God being the center of the family. Other than that, my definition is about the same as DanKroh's. Actually, Bobanon, I'm glad to see you don't have a problem with public schools chartering BSA units. Sorta inconsistent with your other views, but nice to see none the less. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. Bobanon, How does a public school chartering a BSA unit establish a religion? How does this violate the Constitution? I love it when people say it's the "spirit" of the document! Reminds me of the hanging chad election when people tried to interpret the "spirit" of the voter! What a farce! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. Ed writes: "A public school chartering a BSA unit is not establishing a religion or making a law establishing a religion. " And this is where we could get into a discussion about what, exactly, constitutes an "establishment of religion." I'll be the first to agree, interpretation is key. But this is quite different from your previous assertion that "The Constitution doesn't say a thing about the separation of church & state. Where in the Constitution does it say the church & state must be separate? It says the state must not establish a religion. It doesn't say the state have religion in it. Yes it is all about interpretation. DanKroh, Define family values? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. SR, I am a Christian that worships at a Presbyterian church. The flavor of Christianity I subscribe to is "Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior." Didn't change my story. That whole thing was a question. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  24. SR540Beaver, You really make a lot of assumption, don't you. Christian, sir , Christian. Presbyterian is just the denomination. The discussions I have had with Scouts regarding their religious beliefs usually don't delve into denominational differences. Nor should they. So I ask "How do you show your reverence to God?" and the Scout answers "I don't believe in God." How is that any different than asking "Do you believe in God?" Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  25. A public school chartering a BSA unit is not establishing a religion or making a law establishing a religion. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
