We are Troop 1. Some years back, Troop 2 from a different district was at summer camp the same week we were. Troop 2 had a sign as part of their gateway that read Troop 2 2nd to None We knew a lot of the Scouts & adults in the Troop & we decided to prank them! We made a #1 & one night we snuck over to their site & place the 1 on top of the N in None so the sign now read Troop 2 2nd to 1one They never notices until they were breaking camp Saturday morning! I have to wonder how the adults found out? When this kinda stuff happens in the shower house, it is usually all around camp in a few minutes! That's probably how the adults found out! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

YPT issue - no Prank - yes Common occurrence with kids this age - yes Snapping the mooner with a towel - priceless! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

I HAVEN'T SEEN THE APPLICATION YET. IF SWIMMING AND CYCLING WERE CREDITIED AS EAGLE REQ'D IN FULFILLMENT OF STAR, THEN WHY WOULDN'T IT BE LISTED ON THE APPLICATION AS ONE OF THE EAGLE REQ'D? Because only one of those may be counted as an Eagle Required MB on the application. These are listed as swimming OR cycling OR hiking. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Another favorite - how many grooves on a 33 and a third LP (album) that has thirty minutes of music on each side? Any takers? Two - One on each side.

FScouter, MaScout & scottteng are right on the money and do not contradict each other. I would concur with their responses. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

How, pray tell, is the district going to handle the incomplete required merit badges? If they haven't been completed, there is no way the Scout can even qualify for his Eagle BOR. I would complain to council & national on this one! Just because your DAC wants kudos doesn't give him/her the right to totally circumvent the entire process. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

I would agree with Semper. But he should be assigned to "Patrol Box Handle Co-Ordinator"

Do any of the other leaders echo you sentiments? No YPT issue. There is nothing wrong with lifting tent flaps to wake Scouts up. Heck, I sleep in my skivies all the time! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

The problem with this document being used to define grey area's is 1. Its not an official document 2. No one knows who wrote it. We asked our NE region rep and they don't know. 3. It appears to be just one persons opinion, notice no one at national has ever issued anything like it. Exactly!

There are times when I push the limits. I know that. That's just the way I am. But what drives me nuts (other than Merlyn) is when a poster wants to stick to the letter of one requirement then get upset when their interpretation of another vague requirement is disputed. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Random order yep! Anyone else notice the inconsistency in the National Web Site?

Which way to the beach?

Excellent pranks even Eamonns! And all seemed to be done not to hurt but to amuse! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

We are a small Troop. My only involvement with the Scouts is during BOR's. I'm registered as an ASM at my own choice. I know of nothing that states the Advancement Chair must be a committee member or an ASM can't be a member of the TC. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

I chair all the BOR's in my Troop. Our SM never sits on a BOR. Exactly what "checks & balances" do you speak of? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Did HE get out of scouting what HE could have? Not a chance. He might not have gotten what he could have but he got what he wanted. I gotta wonder why some posters are so quick to jump on the other Troop folk. From the info in the original post it seems clear this Scout was "given" his Eagle and not because he earned it. How doesn't it fit Eamonn?

To the political correct crowd, using the term PADBALLS could be considered hazing. So could latrine duty of pot scrubbing duty or campsite clean up duty! It's getting so if one person gets embarrassed by anything it is considered hazing. PC run amok is dangerous! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 I thought I saw a snipe!

Some years back I thought I was going to be hung drawn and quartered by our Council Camping Committee. My big sin? I'd suggested that we not offer Basketry Merit Badge at Summer Camp!! I'm fine with the fact that the camp makes money selling the kits, but I have not ever in all the time I've been in Scouting met a Scout who shows any excitement about making a basket. We offer it because it's easy and will fit in well with the First Year Camper Plan. Sure the Lad will be recognized at the Troop COH, when he goes up to collect his patch. But what a waste of time. I see this differently. 1st, drawing & quartering someone is definitely hazing! I don't consider making a basket waste of time. I consider it a great teaching & learning experience. A young Scout learns how to follow directions & weave a basket! And it makes no difference if it's the nastiest looking basket known to mankind. He did it himself! And now when he goes to camp next year he can help a new Scout make his basket. Plus, he has learned the importance of following directions. Everyone wins! The big problem I see with our school system is most teachers teach to tests. We measure how well our kids are doing by the grades they get on these tests. So a kid that does well on tests gets good grades. That doesn't mean he/she is smarter than the kid who does poorly on tests. All it means is they test better! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

One year, the adults in my Troop developed a propane powered light. We told everyone it ran off the relief valve of the tank & the conversion kit could be purchased for $20. We had other adults in other Troops marveling at our feat! A couple did figure out how we did it! The "Gray Areas" will always be there. And they can be different for everyone. Scouting isn't for every boy & every boy isn't for Scouting. While we all hate to lose Scouts, there are times when attrition can be a good thing for all concerned. This is one of those times. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Capella, We have had a rule in our Troop for years - Blow off a merit badge class or other scheduled program you go home regardless of the day. We have only had to do this once. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

But the real meaning lies with the person who receives it. The Lad in question here will receive a ribbon, a chunk of metal and an embroidered scrap of material. Sure he can brag that he is an Eagle Scout, but sadly deep down he has to know that it's all very hollow. One would hope this is true but in this case I doubt it. This boy will be encouraged to use his ill-gotten Eagle for all the benefits it has. And when he winds up behind bars he will just be another man who didn't earn his Eagle.
