Ed, if all discrimination is the same, then public schools, which have separate bathrooms for boys & girls, could also have separate bathrooms for white and non-white students. All discrimination is the same in your view, right? Clueless! Having separate bathrooms for different genders isn't discrimination. Having separate bathrooms for different ethnic backgrounds is. Look it up, please! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Patrol cooking! The summer camp we attend has two Boy Scout camps - one patrol cooking and one 3rd year Webelos dining hall. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Fred, I've pointed out to you before that "in perpetuity" in a lease only means that the lease doesn't need to be periodically renewed. Actually, this is partially correct. "In perpetuity" means it never ends so it never needs to be renewed. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
-
Actually, Merlyn, all discrimination is the same. That's where you and I differ. You only care about something that effects you. You could care less that the Girl Scouts won't admit boys or the Boy Scouts won't admit girls. That is also discrimination. Now I'm not saying I want boys in Girl Scouts & visa versa. What I am saying is all discrimination is the same. Some maybe more evident like blacks being forced to use different bathrooms or women not being able to vote. And now blacks can use the same bathrooms as everyone else and women can vote. But atheists will never be allowed to be members of the BSA. And Scout units will continue to go on meeting in public schools and other public buildings. And all your belly aching & whining & crying isn't going to change that. Don't be discouraged, Merlyn. Keep up the good fight. You are affecting nothing! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

And the BSA can legally discriminate based on religion. Don't know that a school can legally discriminate based on talent, though. So, Merlyn, not all discrimination is the same, eh? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Merlyn, Learn to be less of a moron! What about my other examples regarding the sports teams & band? Heck, kids try out for those & get tossed! Aren't they being discriminated against? Or isn't there enough cash in it for the ACLU (who have nothing to do with our liberties)? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Let's see. A Scout unit in a public school is the school's youth group. Never heard that one before. I wonder if public schools consider BSA units their youth group? Kinda doubt it. Fred makes an excellent point. No court has ever ruled that a public school chartering a BSA unit was unconstitutional. The BSA is allowed to decided who can be a member. So can the football team and the band and the swimming team and the basketball team! But the BSA is being attacked for discriminating! If you can't play football or and instrument or swim or play basketball you can't be on those teams! And they are, like a BSA unit charted by a public school, owned by the school. How come no one is suing them for discrimination? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

"In perpetuity" in a lease does not mean forever Hmmm. The condition of an estate that is limited so as to be inalienable either perpetually or longer than the period determined by law. Hmmmm. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
pack, I agree everyone should pay for berthing including the BSA. My point is one doesn't need to be a member of an organization to realize the benefits of the organization. Hence, this can't be used as part of the argument for revoking free berthing to the BSA. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Merlyn, So other than the court documents, you don't actually know what the Sea Scout do at the marina. You don't know if they have volunteered to maintain a section of the marina at no charge. Or volunteer to help with maintenance. Or anything like that. I'm don't know either. The point I am trying is one doesn't need to be a member of an organization to benefit from that organization. I'm not a member of the Rotary but I benefit from what they do. So, if this Sea Scout unit does do things at the marina that the public benefit from that don't require membership, they should get the same free berthing as other non profits. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
-
Merlyn, Why do they have to join to get the benefit of what the Sea Scouts do? Do you know what benefit they offer to the public? Benefiting the public doesn't translate to membership. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
-
OK so the public is to get some benefit from the non profit. How does that translate they have be a member of the non profit to get benefit from it? One can receive the benefit of the works a non profit does & never be a member. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Oh, yea, Merlyn and Ed in a "god thread". We're in for some fun now, eh? For me, it's God and for Merlyn, who is an atheist, its, well I don't know what a god to Merlyn would be. Maybe money. Maybe his Vega! I do keep praying for him, though. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Wonder what 4 Eagle required & 2 other MB's this Scout earned for his Star rank? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Gern, I don't have a blue card in front of me but the part council gets is the part the MB counselor signs. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
-
Council gets their portion of the blue card along with the advancement report. Actually, they are turned in at our Scout shop in council headquarters when the merit badges are purchased. The Troop Scout section & counselor section stays with the Advancement Chairman (me). Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
-
We still must turn in blue cards with advancement reports for merit badges. It sounds like this unit wants to keep everything in-house and that, at least to me, raises red flags. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

As for the moral issues, I would propose to him (and Ed who supports equality of treatment of all non-profit groups) that if a non-profit group supported violent discrimination against Blacks (The KKK Youth Auxillary let's say), would they agree that that group should be allowed free berthing? While I wouldn't like the KKK getting free berthing, if they were a non-profit and other non-profits were receiving free berthing, then they should get free berthing. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Not unusual at all. At each BOR, the Scout being reviewed start the BOR with the Pledge of Allegiance, Scout Oath (Promise) and Scout Law. Most get the Oath by 2nd Class & most get the Law by 1st Class. I always like asking "How many Scout laws are there?". I get a lot of interesting answers! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

How old is this boy? Why is he attending two Troops? He is cutting corners somewhere. I'd bet this is parent driven! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

It seems that if other non-profits are given free berthing, the BSA should be given the same! The ruling should go in the BSA's favor. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

No meat packing! There goes that fundraising idea!

I am not condoning the mooning but this did happen in the shower house, correct? And I know most Scout aged boys take showers with their bathing suits on. But still, it was in the shower house not at the camp site. Your son coulda experienced the same thing if a less modest Scout walked in and stripped naked! Taking it to the next level should be dealing with it at the Troop level. Going any farther would be overkill! Sorta like treating a speeder like a murder. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
