  1. That's why public schools are not allowed to have a "Bible study" club (endorses on particular religion), which was a hot issue when I was in school in the late '70s. Actually, the high school I attended still has a bible study club. "Student Christian Fellowship Student Christian Fellowship is a group of young Christians who meet weekly to study God's Word, pray together, and fellowship with one another in God's name. In the past, the group has worked through Bible Study programs such as The Purpose Driven Life, but this year we intend to focus on using the Bible to answer the tough questions that teens face." I'm not going to give the name of the high school, but I would bet if you searched high schools all over the country, you would find these type of clubs exist. Remember, it is the freedom of religion not from religion. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. Ed, I think the difference between a club that uses school facilities and a chartered Pack is that the pack is owned by the school and therefore becomes a direct extension to the school and its policies. The club is just that, a self governed/independent group owned by its membership. I was actually referring to school clubs like the Science Club & the Math Club. Those are "owned" by the school and limited to the students in the school. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. Schools support all kinds of internal clubs. I would bet some of those clubs don't allow certain people to be members. But the school is still allowed to support them. What's the difference between an internal school club & chartering a BSA unit? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  4. All the drive-ins in my area are gone! They were a great place to watch a movie on a warm summer night! It's sad. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. Our ASPL had a great safety tip on one campout Don't run with diarrhea! Good advice!
  6. Barry, We only send Scouts home if they use the F word. We don't tolerate profanity or the misuse of God, either. Have only had to send one Scout home for this reason so far. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. In my Troop, if the f-word is used, the user goes home ASAP. No exceptions. Makes no difference why the f-word was used. We don't tolerate that kind of language. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. Shucks, Merlyn, I just couldn't help myself! I gots a tought time pickin' up on these things, ya know! What's your excuse?
  9. Who wants cake? You can have it & eat it, too!
  10. Well gee Merlyn no I don't! I'm just some dumb cluck who don't know his left from his right! And I can't learn so no amount of schooling will help! Twit! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. Now ask yourself if these hospitals could refuse to serve, say, Jews or atheists, and continue to get funding, and whether they ought to continue to get funding. The BSA isn't a hospital. It's a private youth group that has membership requirements. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. Novice_Cubmaster, Either gets you the same thing! I'll even save you some smashed potatoes & gravy! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A No Spam Zone
  13. SPAM = Stinky Putrid Animal Mess I always enjoy a good meatloaf or Cornish game hens! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 A No Spam Zone
  14. Not sure I would want to base anything on a jkhny rant. There are very few facts jkhny's posts. It's more venting than fact. Can't really answer if having my son's Eagle application heading to Irving would influence me being a whistle blower since I am not in that situation. That said, if I did know of any gross improprieties in my council, I would not hesitate to notify someone up the food chain and use my real name. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. 1. Trained leaders 2. Boy Led 3. Patrol Method used 4. Good outdoor program 5. Leaders participate in district/council programs 6. All PL's, SPL's & ASPL's attend JLT 7. Good rapport with CO 8. Good relationship with local Cub Packs 9. Planned program 10. Have fun!
  16. Does BSA discriminate against atheists? Yes Is it legal for BSA discriminate against atheists? Yes Is it legal for a school to discriminate against atheists? No Therefore is it legal for a school to support or charter an organization that discriminates (albeit legally) against atheists? In this day and age, probably not. Probably not? If the school is chartering a BSA unit what are they doing that is illegal? And, yeah SaintCad, I read what you posted. Did you miss my point? Need a 3 for a full boat! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. If however you are standing in the 7-11 and a guy comes in with a gun to rob the store and you have no part in the crime. What are you guilty of? You are guilty of nothing! But if you walk in with the guy & he robs the place, you could be considered an accessory to the crime & just as guilty as the person who committed the crime. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Accessory is the term. It can require jail time. It is part of the real world. And aren't we supposed to help prepare these young men for the real world? If I am with another person who shoots someone, I am an accessory. It is my responsibility to try to stop that person from shooting that someone & if I can't it is my responsibility to turn the shooter into the proper authorities. I didn't pull the trigger but I am just as responsible as the shooter if I do nothing. Do nothing is never an option. A lot of young boys don't understand this. They think they will get in more trouble if they lie or say nothing. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. Maybe the training is too specific? Maybe most of the training could be done in a weekend session with breakout sessions instead of all the position specific training. That might get more people to training! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. SaintCad, The BSA doesn't discriminate illegally. Therefore if a public school is the chartering organization for a BSA unit, they are not supporting illegal discrimination of a protected class since the BSA doesn't discriminate illegally. Moot point. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. You go girl! Congrats! Eagles soar above all! "I'm a talon you, we're the Eagles!" I use to be an Eagle! NE-V-120 Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. Ed, BW hasnt been around for quite awhile and I am sure many members who consider themselves long term posters here have no idea who you referenced. How about living in the present, not the past? Since my post was in response to Eamonn, I'm sure he will understand the reference. You did, OGE. BW last posted 9/28/2005. And do you not think that you owe Eamonn an apology over that chipmunk crack? What in any of his posts makes you think he would do such a thing? or actually not do? I asked a question. The response from Eamonn speaks for itself. Read his post on 8/9/2006: 5:53:21 AM. If I have offended anyone, I apologize. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. We don't know who was in the tent when the damage was done? There had been 3 boys who slept in this tent. Each is responsible for the tent. If you are the passenger in a car that gets stopped for speeding? should you also get a ticket because you let the driver speed? Not a valid analogy. Sounds like a BW argument. If all 3 Lads done the damage all 3 are guilty, but we each of us are responsible for our own actions and punishing the innocent doesn't seem in keeping with the Scout Law. I agree punishing the innocent isn't the right thing to do but we don't know anyone is innocent in this situation. And no one has come forward & said they did nothing. And it is keeping with the Scout Law. Trustworthy, Obedient. So I guess, Eamonn, if you saw someone ripping the legs off a chipmunk you would do nothing. That's sad. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
