Being Quoted by brainbuf on savescouting
evmori replied to ScoutNut's topic in Open Discussion - Program
More proof brianbuf has no clue what he is doing. And he is bordering on dangerous. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
BA, I was wondering what Brian's other ticket items were, too, because the ones he listed seem lame. This is an attack on me and upon my WB leaders. I spent many hours (being retired) in the 4 weeks doing WB non-stop. But I don't have to answer to you, but to my patrol guide. How dare you attack him, his judgment regarding my tickets, and our WB scoutmaster's ultimate sign off. You are DEAD WRONG about them.. and they signed off on my tickets. Nope. Wrong. No attack on your WB leaders or patrol or anyone associated with your WB course. All perceived by you, Brian, just like your reasons for Scoutings decline. You post no facts on your website, just your opinions. You say you have done research yet you quote 2005 membership numbers. What about 2006 the year we are in? Your ideas to save Scouting are to update the icons, uniform & merit badges. The 1st two will do nothing to keep boys in Scouting. The only valid one is updating merit badges. I really think your WB leaders who approved your ticket expected more from your web site than conjecture and opinion because that's all it is. No hard facts. No real ideas. I took the "old WB". Loved every minute of it. Took me a year to earn my beads. Not because I didn't work on my ticket but because I actually put some effort & thought into how I was going to complete each item & then the time to complete each to my counselors satisfaction. When I was done, I felt I accomplished something. Something that to this day, I can still use in more venues than Scouting. Yeah this will be viewed as an attack, too! Oh well. It's not meant to be. Just my opinion. And I don't apologize for my opinions. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Well, Eamonn, for me it would be Speedy & Mr. Peanut & Mr. Clean & that guy with the black eye in the Viceroy commercials. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Brent, I agree. He doesn't have a clue. All Brian has is empty complaints and no answers. He wants to change the uniform & icons of Scouting & he thinks that will fix what's wrong. That's like giving a car that needs a new transmission a new coat of paint & not fixing the real problem. I really don't see to many problems. Sure there are some areas that need updating but as a whole, the BSA is a good organization for boys. I wonder what the rest of his ticket was like! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

>>Define active. Not in generalities but specifics. >>Required training for all adult leaders. >>Stop adding stupid rank requirements. >>Make the Quality Unit award actually mean something. Gotta agree, Brians web site is nothing more than a blog gone wild. One would think, since this is a WB ticket item, he would have actually done some research & not just accepting the opinions. Poorly done in my opinion. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Add cell phones to the Communications MB. Have requirements to send & receive text messages, take & send pictures & send an entire text message without actually spelling out an entire word! This is too much fun! Instead of an Eagle Project, it could be a video game contest where a boy would have to score above a certain score on a video game without using any cheats! Too cool! Ed "Scouting, huh??" Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Rename the ranks Elmo, Halo, Slipknot, Ozzie, Paris & Trump. Only need a couple of requirements for each one. Why make the boys actually do anything? Add Video Gaming as a MB & have the minimum hours required as 8 per day for 30 days. Might as well make watching TV a service project, too. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Our Council just announced that to earn "Quality Unit" this year, the unit MUST sell PC. Has National changed the QU form or is your council located in a communist country? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Blackmail is exactly what it is! There is no obligation for a unit to sell popcorn. Popcorn sales is one way to support council, but there are others. How is forcing a unit to sell popcorn living by the Scout Oath & Law? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

pack, I agree that holding a recruiting session during class time is not a good thing and shouldn't be allowed. Lunch is basically the students time during the school day. It is the time they interact with their classmates. So holding a recruiting session during lunch does not interfere with the academic day regardless of the specifics. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Venividi, I think the key is his uniform should be as correct as possible. If everything at the BOR was to the satisfaction of the board and the Scout was not passed because he didn't have a uniform, then he would have a valid reason to appeal & he would win. Scoutmaster Ron, What other "deal breakers" do you have in your Troop that could be considered adding to or subtracting from the requirements? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

If I'm not mistaken, but wasn't this recruiting done during lunch? If so, no class time was interfered with. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Venividi, OGE is right on the money. If a BOR would tell a Scout they will reconvene when he has a full uniform, they are adding to the requirements and that is not allowed. Scout Spirit is defined as living the Scout Oath & Law in you everyday life. Neither mention wearing a uniform. A Scout would have a great reason to appeal the BOR decision and would win. Merlyn, Face it. The BSA can recruit in public schools. So can the KKK & the Young Atheists & The Fellowship of Christian Athletes & PETA. Key word recruit. Pass out fliers with joining information. Have recruiting sessions with joining information. No laws broken. No one discriminated against. Everyone can attend the recruiting sessions but no one has to join. Each person can chose which, if any, organization they wish to join providing they meet the membership requirements of the organization. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
POLL: Should Boy Scouts Recruit At Public Schools?
evmori replied to fgoodwin's topic in Issues & Politics
And at the other end of the spectrum, the worst recruiting is probably when their gay & atheist friends are excluded. This will be an issue as long as scouts have gay & atheist friends. There is no bad end when Scouting is involved. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -

When kids have to hide their scout membership from their friends, as one poster said half his Eagles admited to doing, we have a problem, houston. Why would a Scout have to hide his membership from friends? -

Excellent, Barry! My take on why Scouting numbers are declining is more focused on the parents than the kids. I think parents feel they need to get their sons in something that will "get them through" life as easy as possible. Sports seems to be the end all. Every boy is another MJ or Roberto or Marino. I also think kids are way over scheduled. It is almost to the point of 10 year olds needing day-timers and that's sad. Kids don't know how to play anymore unless it's organized for them or it's electronic. The Scouting program could probably use a little updating but the core is still excellent & shouldn't be tampered with. Boys aren't joining Scouts because the uniform looks "dorky". That's just an excuse, not a reason. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -

There is more free time now? Nah. Kids today are so over scheduled & over protected they have no time for anything. I think you need to rethink your myths. Some are facts. It seems you want to totally retool Scouting. Do you want to retool the values, too? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori) -
Religious Leader on the Eagle Application
evmori replied to Sir_Scoutalot's topic in Advancement Resources
I have actually taken my DAC to task on the reference issue. The requirement is to list people who would be willing to give the Eagle candidate a reference. Nothing about the Eagle candidate or Troop supplying letters. It is up to the DAC to get the references or request them from the Eagle candidate or Troop. When I was the SM, an Eagle candidate in my Troop showed up for his Eagle BOR & the DAC asked where his reference letters were. He said "What letters?" The DAC looked at me & I asked my Eagle Candidate "Did anyone form the District Advancement Committee ask you to bring letters with you?" He answered no. I told the DAC no one informed me they were required. The DAC said "It's on the application." I responded "There is no requirement to supply the references, only the names of people who would be willing to give the Eagle candidate a reference if asked. The requirement was completed by the Eagle candidate. You didn't do your job." My Scout had his Eagle BOR & passed with flying colors. Never supplied reference letters. If the DAC had requested them from my Eagle candidate or myself, we would have supplied them. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -

And any boy may join. When the BSA loses a court case they are liars. When they win they are liars. When they tie they are liars. Merlyn, is it possible that maybe just maybe you are the one that has a problem recognizing the truth? You seem so bent on destroying the BSA you throw all logic out the window. Yeah every boy can join. If they meet the requirements of membership. No one lied. A statement was made. If you can't do better than stooping to name calling, Merlyn, then you are a very sad individual. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 Never Forget 9-11 -

It's not a lie. Any boy (and how come the parents of a girl didn't pitch a fit) can join providing he meets the requirements for membership. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 Never Forget 9-11 -

Merlyn, I read it. And it would have been discrimination if Remington wasn't allowed to attend the presentation because he is an atheist. No one lied. Anyone can join if they meet the requirements. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 Never Forget 9-11 (This message has been edited by evmori)
