  1. Do you really think it is respectful to anyone (including your God) to use the celebration of the birth of your savior as a political tool to harass those don't share your religious beliefs? Excellent question! It wouldn't be harassment. It would be wishing the ACLU a blessed Christmas. I plan on sending a card! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. {Ed, your comments are not appropriate.} (This message has been edited by a staff member.)
  3. Ya know Gern, you are correct. Amazing! Merlyn agrees with me! I can learn! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  4. This question has no point! Scouting would be completely different if it was started in 2006. But, what does that have to do with anything? All this thread is trying to do is justify faulty logic as to why there has been a membership decline in Scouting with the biggest decline in the part of the program that has nothing to do with what Brian perceives the problem to be! It's still hard to believe Brian actually went to Wood Badge! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. To keep the other thread clean of what will probably happen here, What is an atheist? Merlyn believes an atheist is whatever fits his current cause. I feel an atheist doesn't believe in a higher power. How about the rest? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. Man, Merlyn, you musta majored in Spin in college cause you can twist anything around to fit your need! Atheist - a person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. Excellent point SR540Beaver! Agnostics & atheists are not one in the same. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. If BP had started scouting in 2006, what would it look like? It would look a lot different then it does now. But here's the rub, Scouting started almost 100 years ago. There is no way to compare what anything started in 1910 vs something started 2006. So your question really gets nowhere. Sorta like your web site! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. Ed, the BSA is being treated the SAME as all other non-profits. ALL organizations that get free berths have to meet Berkeley's non-discrimination requirements. You really CAN'T learn things. Berkeley having a non-discrimination requirement is discriminating in itself! Learning isn't the issue. Being fair across the board is. And the ACLU has no sense of fairness. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. OGE, You are 100% correct. Brian seems to think if the BSA changes to snazzy uniforms & cool catch phrases the kids will come in droves. And in an attempt to further prove his lack of understanding, he quotes an article in a business magazine that says kids don't play outside like they use to & Brian thinks they have all the time in the world on their hands. That's sorta like saying I can't have anymore payments due, cause I'm out of payment coupons! I'd hit the ignore button myself but Brian's post are actually good reading! I love looking for the typos & incorrect assumptions! Sorta like playing "Where's Waldo?" Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. Ya know Merlyn, that "you can't learn" line is really getting old! Considering your affiliation with a comedy troupe, I would expect more originality! But considering your tunnel vision I guess expecting more is unrealistic. The City of Berkley is discriminating against the BSA by not giving them the same perks as other non-profits. They want the BSA to stop legally discriminating but they can illegally discriminate against the BSA. Not a level playing field. Either all non-profits get free berthing or none do. That's a level playing field. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. In the past we had Patrol QM's. Worked out very well. They had a real sense of responsibility. And yes, we counted these positions as POR's for rank. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. Did anyone see this weeks BusinessWeek Magazine? There is an article on how out of shape and fat we are as a nation. It reported that involment in outside activities are down and cited people playing tennis (adults and kids) is down 30% in the last 15 years or so, and other activities as much as 60% in the same time period. What it seems to suggest is simply that perhaps people, kids and adults, may not be quite as busy as we generally preceive them to be. They are making time for the activities that interest them. My entire goal is to help repackage the scouting program (not changing the values) to be something that appeals to kids and parents of today. What this suggests is people aren't as physically active as they should be, nothing more. People are probably over scheduled more mow than ever. Both parents working. Little Johnny needs a ride to school then has band practice after school then home to eat dinner then study then off to Scouts. Dad has a meeting at church & mom needs to bake two dozen cupcakes for Little Johnnies school bake sale. Way less activity but a way busier schedule. Less physical activity doesn't necessarily translate to being less busy. Just less physically busy. Repackaging Scouting won't change anything. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. Nowhere is it stated the POR's like QM or Scribe or Historian are to be completed at the Troop level only. Why can't a QM have assistants that are in charge of patrols? Same with a Scribe. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. So the City of Berkley can discriminate but the BSA can't? Well, tie score BSA 1, ACLU 1.
  16. Nope. Not the same. The BSA is a non-profit. What other non-profits get free berthing? Name need names! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. A Scribe or QM can be either a Patrol or Troop position. So can Instructor, Librarian or Historian. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Well, since other non-profits get free berthing, it's OK for the city to discriminate illegally against the BSA since the BSA discriminates legally. Yeah that's fair! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. If it is a fact that all non-profits are treated the same way regarding berthing fees, then the BSA has no complaint. But if even one non-profit is getting a cut rate deal, then the BSA has a valid complaint. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. Interesting. Thanks for all the details. I would sit back & observe for a month or so to see if the problem Scout is reverting back to his old form. It is possible the PL & SPL are in cahoots. From what you posted, it sounds like this Scout has come a long way & should be given the benefit of the doubt one last time. Let us know what happens. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. Yep homosexuality is all around. Does that mean we or our children must tolerate it? Nope. Homosexuality is a lifestyle. Nothing more. The school was flat out wrong to allow that or any other teacher to do what they did. Being a homosexual has nothing to do with education. It's all about agenda. If a Christian would have done the exact same thing they would have been sanctioned or fired! But since the person who made these statements to the children was a homosexual, nothing happened! Why? Lawsuit! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. When I was a CM, we never yelled signs up during a Pack meeting. I would just stand there with my sign up & wait. Eventually, everyone got the message. Works well in my Troop, too. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. I agree with Semper, too. It's time for the SPL & SM to toss some consequences on the PL for his behavior. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  24. "Doing the right thing 100% of the time regardless of the consequences" I failed!! Eamonn We all do. It's called a character flaw. All humans (save One) has them.
  25. Character huh. Doing the right thing 100% of the time regardless of the consequences. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
