Democrat or Republican or Green Party or Independent makes no difference. Vote your conscience. Vote for the best candidate regardless of party affiliation. Voting for a candidate just because they belong to a specific party is wrong. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

There is nothing anywhere in any BSA publication that states the Eagle Project Workbook must be typed or all spelling must be correct. My son hand wrote his. Requiring additional spreadsheets is also wrong. This is the Scouts project, not the DAC. It is the Scout's decision as to what to include. The DAC can ask for additional documentation or more detail but requiring it be in a specific format is not their call. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

I always thought if a district camporee made money that was a bonus! The big challenge was just covering expenses! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

BSA not subject to Am. with Disabilities Act
evmori replied to Merlyn_LeRoy's topic in Issues & Politics
Thanks OGE! Nice post! Maybe I do sound like a broken record. Learn to live with it! There are still unit charted by public schools and fire departments & police departments and department stores and public libraries. And this will probably continue! Why? Because it's good for the community. The ACLU might not think so because if something is good they don't like it. Too bad! And Merlyn's list is about as accurate as a scud missile! Yet he stands by it as fact! Typical tactic of the ACLU ilk! Go ahead & delete this if you lie, moderators! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
BSA not subject to Am. with Disabilities Act
evmori replied to Merlyn_LeRoy's topic in Issues & Politics
Have we ever considered the BSA just figured it wasn't worth tossing money away fighting the ACLU & decided to just recharter those units that were chartered by public schools & other public entities like that? Hmmm ................ Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
BSA not subject to Am. with Disabilities Act
evmori replied to Merlyn_LeRoy's topic in Issues & Politics
Right on the money gonzo1! By not allowing the BSA to be chartered by public schools or police departments is actually a violation of the 1st Amendment. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Am I getting old or does TV seem to be getting worse?
evmori replied to Eamonn's topic in Open Discussion - Program
I grew up watching Opie & Pa figuring stuff out, hearing the Beav saying "Gee Wally" & wonder why if Father Knew Best he missed so much! We had 3 channels plus PBS. It was really cool when we could get a UHF channel! It was hard to tune in, though. The Tene-Rotor had to work overtime. The 1st time I saw The Wizard of Oz in color it was really cool! Wish we had Dave Allen & Monty Python when I was growing up! Both are classics. TV now is not that great. Reality TV sucks. There are very few good comedies on and the dramas are all the same. I do love Boston Legal! If it wasn't for sports & channels like Discovery I probably wouldn't watch much. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
BSA not subject to Am. with Disabilities Act
evmori replied to Merlyn_LeRoy's topic in Issues & Politics
Even if the BSA was bound by ADA, this case would have been ruled in favor of the unit. Providing reasonable accommodations & babysitting a kid for a week is not what the ADA is about. Gern, I have two deaf kids & have had to pull out the ADA card a couple times in similar situations. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
If I only learned one thing from my father (I learned tons) it was to be on time & don't blow stuff off. Is there any repercussion for missing the meeting (other than the obvious)? Maybe if it was stated the Patrols who's PL didn't show up for the PLC would be sent home might work! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

What's the rush? Maybe he wants to enjoy Scouts learn. Not advance like an Indy car on the last lap! Nothing wrong with that. Keep encouraging his learning! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

There is really no need to spend hundreds on good boots when you can get a pair for half that price. My Timberlands cost $40 & I've had them for 10 years! Comfortable! What you wear between your foot & boot is also very important! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Either this SM is burnt out or there is something missing from the story. How far away was this hall? Why did it take the Scout so long to get the materials? Did he tell anyone where he was going? Something is missing. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

If BP had started scouting in 2006, what would it look like?

OldGreyEagle writes: I invite Kudu to post his opinions of the BSA and Wood Badge and the role of women in scouting in these forums and we will see how he is treated by those moderators. That's sorta like granting a criminal immunity from prosecution! I gotta agree that the training should fit the audience. Cub trainers should be training Cub leaders & Boy Scout trainers should be training Boy Scout leaders. And if the trainer has never actually done what they are training in, they should before they tell others how to do it. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Boy Scout Rank Advancement, who signs off?
evmori replied to Gonzo1's topic in Advancement Resources
This is the responsibility of the SM. The SM may delegate this to another registered adult or youth leader but the SM is ultimately responsible for this. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10 -
Since I have aged a little, I use a cot. I place an old blanket on the cot then a space blanket then my bag. The old blanket provides a little cushion & the space blanket reflects my body heat back to me. In the winter, I always wear a tossle cap to bed & the last thing off my body before I zip us my bag is my socks. Toasty! I don't like heaters in tents, either. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

WOW! That was a little harsh, Mollie! Maybe the kid changed schools because his parents wanted him in a better school. No red flag! Scouting is designed to be boy run & adult supervised. It's a lot different than school. The same rules don't always apply. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Aidan_MacAnBhaird, excellent post! The ACLU has a few times actually defended our rights. But most of the time, they are misguided by their own agenda. Merlyn, Makes no difference where those examples happened. All that matter is that they did happen. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Eagle service project not for a non-profit organization

From what I read, this Scout doesn't deny the existence of God. He is finding it hard to believe there is a God. Now we need to remember he did recite the Oath without question and I am assuming (I hate doing that) recited the Oath correctly & completely. But, after he revealed his concerns, he was never asked how he does his duty to God. Remember, the DRP doesn't state a Scout must not be wavering in his belief, just that he does.
