Horseplay is spray painting graffiti or tossing rocks at signs. Making a pipe bomb is not now or ever has been horseplay. Pipe bombs are very dangerous & this kid is lucky to be alive. Hunt, the scouts only had to move for this election because there was a gay-connected issue on the ballot, and the scouts are (now) publically perceived as being officially anti-gay, so their presence by a polling place raised electioneering concerns. Why should we not expect EVERY Eagle candidate to prepare and perform at the [same] Eagle level? Given some of the arguments that have been offered above, it seems that we should expect no less of a 13-year-old's Eagle project than we would of a 17-year-old's. There might only be a 4 year age difference but the is a huge difference in maturity & general understanding. The standards shouldn't be lower because of age, they should be age appropriate. I have a feeling you will continue to have the same problems regardless of how great you make the meetings. It sounds like these six are having too much fun getting away with whatever they can. Time to put an end to that. I would sit these six and their parents down & have a chat with the adult Troop leadership doing the chatting while the parents & Scouts listen. I would go over everything you have posted here then tell them "It stops now. Next incident from any one of these six & they are suspended for 9 days & will not be allowed back in the Troop until the Scout & parents have a meeting with the adult leadership of the Troop to determine if there has been a change in the Scouts attitude. It sound like there are more issues here than your Pack can handle. That's not a bad thing. If this kid's behavior is a carry over from home, then it is up to mom to deal with it, not you. Yeah the House & Senate do vote on party lines most of the time. Still, if we all voted for the best candidate regardless of party, maybe just maybe this would change. I have been a registered Democrat since I turned 18 and I have always voted for the candidate I felt would doe the best job. If we all did, we could make a difference. This is supposed to be the Scouts project. Nowhere does an Eagle project require a computer or correct spelling. Not all Eagle Project Workbooks will look the same. And they shouldn't. I have sat on quite a few Eagle BOR's and you can tell which Scouts did all the paperwork themselves & which didn't. Uniformity is nice but in this case it is adding unnecessary steps & requirements. Wait till one Scout is given his workbook back & is told to type it or it won't be accepted & the Scout appeals & wins. That will end all the silliness from the DAC. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
