  1. C'mon Lisabob! Are you blind? The rad rock music not the great Scouting activities that have been around for decades with the Scouts in their traditional uniforms & bolo's is the reason this is such a great video! Ain't no silly nursery rhyme! The only thing that would make the video better is if Terry Labonte buzzed by in is NASCAR vehicle! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. May I be a rapscallion instead of a rascal, OGE? It has more of an edge to it! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. I found it! SOUT is an acronym for Serial OUT! FScouter, Not trying to start anything just asking a question. And since I didn't get an answer I did mu own research & found the answer. Thanks for asking. Hey maybe there could be a Research merit badge! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  4. Brent, Love the "Virtual Scouting" idea! You could be your own Troop & Patrol! Heck POR's would be a no-brainer & imagine the possibilities of merit badges! Couch Surfing, Chip Fetching, Drink Pouring, Clicker Management! The possibilities are endless! What is a Sout? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. I would agree that Scouting is always changing. I would also agree that Brian's site is nothing but fluff. Brent, And lest we not forget the Scouts in the video were cooking on stoves! Not some newfangled device! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. If a Scout has been convicted of a crime and over time has turned his life around & truly repented, then yes he maybe worthy to be an Eagle. What do I mean by a numbers game? Quantity vs quality. No Trevorum, I am not saying any criminal conviction should be an automatic disqualifier. But it should carry a lot of weight in the EBOR's decision. scoutldr, Excellent point. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. Great video! Shows Scouts doing lots of Scouting stuff! And a lot in Class A & Class B uniforms! And no mention of NASCAR! What's a Sout? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. That's what I love about you, OGE! Not afraid to waffle in the face of nothing! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4;10
  9. BTW, I do know of a scout who had been convicted a selling cocaine to fellow students. He was denied his Eagle rank at his BOR, largely based on the issue of selling drugs. He appealed and was eventually awarded his Eagle. To me this is a problem. Has the Eagle rank turned into a numbers game? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. Fuzzy, Based on the original post, this Scout has been convicted of a felony. Done deal. Would it make a difference if this Scout was convicted of drug possession with the intent to distribute? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. So your on this EBOR, here comes this young man, you think you know the outcome, but because its sealed, you don't know for sure. You can't ask because its a sealed file. The young man was advised by his lawyer to not talk about it. So like it or not, you have no proof of conviction. So if you vote no, what written reason are you going to give? How can you articulate as is required what he must do to improve inorder to pass the next EBOR. So lets say you vote no, he appeals, what do you say to national? "I know he did it, I just cannot prove it." Who do you think is going to win the appeal? I would ask. And all I would expect is a yes or no answer. And I would vote no. And the Scout can appeal all he wants. I would think National would uphold the EBOR decision. Brent, Is that article you posted about Wal*Mart about the Scout in question in this thread? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. Google Polish Cannon. FScouter, Now was that really a necessary comment? I don't think so. At this point in time, this Scout should not be awarded his Eagle. I really don't think being convicted of a felony is living into the Scout Oath & Law. In time if this Scout is truly remorseful & toes the line then he should be given a second chance. If he is awarded his Eagle now, we have done nothing but cheapen the BSA's highest youth award. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. The situation is that a young man in a neighboring community has been convicted of a felony. He and some friends were caught in possession of a pipe bomb. This is from the beginning of the other thread. Being convicted of a felony makes one a felon. And this isn't a "Polish Cannon". It is a pipe bomb. A bomb made with a piece of metal pipe & gunpowder. This is serious stuff, folks. Minimalizing it does none of us any good. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. Wait a minute! Is everyone saying because we made Polish Cannons when we were younger what this Scout did was OK? That logic doesn't even make sense! A pipe bomb is a very dangerous device. It can explode while one is making it! And they do a large amount of destruction. Who cares why it was done! The fact is it was done & the Scout was caught. There are consequences for his actions and not receiving his Eagle is one of them. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. nldscout has a good point. But whether the public knows about it or not makes no difference. He was convicted. And maybe he was tried as an adult. And there is a possibility this was all over the local news. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. Building a bomb isn't "kid stuff". And it really makes no difference why the bomb was built. This isn't the same as carrying a frog in your pocket or playing with matches. This is a bomb. Bombs kill people. Bombs hurt innocent people. If you don't see the difference then there is a bigger problem than a boy making a bomb. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. And now a little ditty! http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/llama.php
  18. I'm not sure if in the other thread it became clear what he intended to do with the pipe-bomb? Or even what size it was? Or if it would work? I really don't think it matters what size it was or what it was intended for or if it worked. The only reason to make any type of bomb is to blow something up and cause destruction. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. FScouter, Are you saying a Scout with a recent felony conviction that relates to a pipe bomb he should be an Eagle Scout now? Remember, everything else is fine except the felony conviction. dan, What's the difference what his sentence is? A felony conviction is a felony conviction. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  20. Let's go with "it's a fresh conviction within the last year".
  21. The situation is that a young man in a neighboring community has been convicted of a felony. He and some friends were caught in possession of a pipe bomb. My best guess is a bunch of kids horsing around. Sounds like something I might have done in my youth. But in todays environment this is a big deal and rightly so. I do not diminish the severity of this offense. I decided to spin this of so we wouldn't clutter up the other thread. If this Scout had satisfactorily completed all the requirements for Eagle and you sat on his Eagle BOR & knew the above, would you vote to pass him? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. I like this set-up, too. Everything doesn't need to be the same. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. Actually, OGE, that would be the left winged snipe in the pine nut nest
  24. OGE, Those were bad! Original but bad! What about yellow bellied sneetches?
  25. Cooking the Dutch Oven Way is good. Lots of tips & other good stuff! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
