  1. While I agree with those who state "Scouting is your everyday life" I'm not a big fan of Scouts coming back after an extended absence to "get" his Eagle. No one should "get" his Eagle. It should be earned. I would do a little checking with friends & teachers & people in the community about this Scout before I had a sit down with him regarding his "earning" his Eagle. And if he refuses to discuss it with you, end of story. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  2. I think the point trying to be made is just because boys are being taught to use weapons doesn't mean they will become killers. The analogy might be a little rough but it does make it's point. Sorta too bad it never took place! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  3. "What time are we supposed to be there?" Translation - It will take me the better part of the day to get ready.
  4. Based on this Conduct the Scouting program according to its own policies and guidelines as well as those of the Boy Scouts of America seems to keep the authority with the BSA. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  5. Great story! To bad it never happened. Read this link http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/n/npr-reinwald.htm People should really check these things out before forwarding them on or posting them. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  6. Yeah, where did the Pack's portion of the popcorn sale go? That's a tidy sum of money? And to answer "Reasons for Unit Fundraisers" would be to raise funds for the unit. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  7. I would agree with others to an extent. Did the BOR ask open-ended questions? Was the Scout asked to expand on his answers? Did he know the Oath & Law? When we do BOR's in my unit (I am the Advancement Chair), we always start with the Scout leading the board in the Pledge, Oath & Law then we proceed with the board. If a Life Scout couldn't lead us in these, the BOR would then let the Scout know he will be delayed in rank advancement do to not knowing the basics he should know. He would be told to study these & let us know when he is ready to proceed with another BOR. I'm not sure I understand the term "scamming his way"???? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  8. OGE, You can go Medieval as long as you do it with rock music & a rad outfit! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  9. MinnSM, Excellent! And the comment from your son says it all! Congrats all around! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  10. Hunt said it much better than I. Thanks Hunt! My point, FScouter, is not everything in the G2SS is a rule or regulation. If you want, we can discuss this in another thread. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  11. This is a tragic situation. My prayers go out the this Scout's family. The part of the G2SS that deals with riding on floats is not a rule or a regulation. It is a guideline. And it is not in bold type which I think we all agree designates a must follow thing. I feel the best course of action when dealing with parade floats is to steer clear. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  12. Me thinks whoever told you this doesn't know what they are talking about. Check with National for the details. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  13. Brian, If you actually squelched me you would have no clue what I posted. Miki, Excellent point! Gonzo, Later dude! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  14. 10.9% decline in some areas. Wake up people! There's that number again! Brian, How about telling everyone what program area that 10.9% decline represents. How about telling everyone that all your ideas have nothing to do with the program area that suffered the 10.9% decline. Wake up Brian! The latest 2006 vs 2005 numbers are up, too! And I would bet it has nothing to do with the video or your ideas, Brian. I would bet if you did some actual research you would find out what the real reason is. Oh and by the way, that mess you posted was for October, not November. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  15. Apples & oranges! The numbers Brian has show a comparison from the same time last year and they do show a decrease. What Miki101 is referring to is this current quarter compared to the previous quarter. Thanks for posting the numbers, Miki. Looks like the rock has stopped! Brian, The last post in the link you posted 12/5/2006 8:58:09 AM was in 6/2006. A little old now. Looks like an apology is in order. Does anyone think the reason for the rise is because Brian posted that cool video with the rock music (Brian's term, not mine - to me it's barely music) that shows all those Scouts in uniforms (one with a bolo tie) doing Scout stuff? Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  16. Was the boy a Star rank when you held the SM conference with him? If so, done! Remember, the requirement reads "participate" not "pass" a SM conference. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  17. My Troop has custom made neckers. We only wear them on special occasions like Eagle BOR's, Scout Sunday, OA Banquets, etc. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Great news! He'll do great at his BOR. And there is nothing wrong with being afraid! Well, if the during the SM Conference the Scout is asked to repeat the Scout Oath & can't then that could be considered wrong. And then again, it could be the Scout's perspective. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  19. uz2bnowl, Did the crystal sets work? I remember building one when I was a kid! I thought I was Marconi! Brian, As usual, you are missing the point. No one is afraid to change anything in Scouting. I think we would all agree Scouting needs to keep up with the times. But your suggestions are not the answer. Rad uniforms & rock music & cool icons are not the answer! You as much as admitted it when you endorsed the video you posted on your site! The video shows Scouts in traditional uniforms (one with a bolo tie on) doing what Scouts have been doing for decades! Not all youth groups grow year after year. They have their ups & downs. There are may more things for boys to do now than there was 10 years ago. Scouting isn't for every boy. Or adult for that fact. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  20. Gonzo, [sarcasm on] Yeah but that is so then! The Scouts of today want iPods & video games & cool icons & NASCAR! Didn't you see them in the video? [sarcasm off] What I saw in the video was Scouts in class A uniforms & class B uniforms hiking, biking, fishing, tenting, shooting, cooking, sailing & all the things Scouts have been doing for decades! And this video is a couple years old! [sarcasm on] But wait! Scouting is declining! But this rad cool video with the Scout in full class A uniform & bolo tie is supposed to save Scouting! [sarcasm off] Never liked the campaign hats, Gonzo. Our Troop has special neckerchiefs we use for special occasions. The kids like 'em. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  21. 1st off, there is no minimum or maximum number of hours required by an Eagle Service Project. The hours in an Eagle Service Project are all the hours of all the people who helped AND the Eagle candidate. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  22. One kid calls neckerchiefs the "dork factor" and that makes it fact! That's what I call research! Moderators, I respectfully request this thread be closed. It's turning to a shouting match and has never really served any purpose. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  23. I know I make mistakes and I have always encouraged the Scouts in my unit to call me on them. And believe me, they do! There is nothing wrong with challenging authority as long as it is done for a valid reason & in a civilized manner. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
  24. Brian, What's your gripe with neckerchiefs? Many troops use them, some don't, big deal. Almost all cub scouts wear them. C'mon Gonzo! Neckerchief's ain't rad cool clothing like that bolo tie the Scout in the video is wearing! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10
