We started "Knot of the Night" at our Troop meetings. Each meeting the Scouts were introduced to a new knot/hitch. They were shown the proper way to tie it, then had time to practice. Each week we added a new knot/hitch & after the new knot/hitch was introduced & practiced they had to tie the one(s) they were taught in previous meetings! Worked like a charm! They enjoyed it & remembered their knots/hitches when it came time to use them! Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Would I hide what is in my Wood Badge ticket? No. There is no valid reason to do so. If someone is hiding something in their Wood Badge tickets I would be suspicious that it was ever done or not done according to the way the ticket was written. You are so right, John-in-KC. Brian has been to Wood Badge yet hasn't learned a thing. Someone classified him as a troll. While that might be a little harsh, it's not too far off. What still gripes me is Brian is still post all over the internet Scouting membership declined 10.9%. Yep at one time Venturing was down 10.9% but total membership isn't. This is nothing more than tabloid style reporting! And when asked direct questions, Brian dances around them better than a professional ballroom dancer! I realize there are all sorts of WB course numbers but the course number WE7-1XX-03-06 he listed doesn't seem right. I'd bet there are numbers where the XX's are. Maybe troll is accurate? Training Attended - Scoutmaster Fundamentals & Wood Badge NE-V-120 District Stuff - Member of Camping Committee, District Training Staff, staffed over a dozen camporees, chaired 4 camporees, staffed numerous Webelos Woods & Cub Scout Fun Days. The requirement states "Show improvement". So if a Scout can do two pull-ups in 30 seconds and 30 days later he can do two pull-ups in 15 seconds, that is improvement. Nowhere in the requirement does it state the Scout must do one more pull-up to show improvement. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

Sorry I won't post details of my trip. Because I am not as good a writer as I would like to be, that ticket would be critized endlessly here Or could it be this trip was a family cruise? Don't get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with a family cruise. Been on a few. Loved 'em. But using an excursion to a Maya ruin to complete a WB ticket item seems a little suspect to me. Eamonn, Some people think those who earn lots of awards are doing it for themselves. They don't realize that those awards are for hours & hours of training & hards work. I, too, have received the District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver & Vigil Honor and all were unexpected and a surprise since everything I was doing was for my Scouts, family, church & community. What really bugs me is all you want, Brian, is for someone to "stick them in an envelope". Yet you belittle the WB patrol names & lots of other stuff that is Scouting. You feel these things need to change yet you want recognition for completing (according to you) your ticket! Those beads you want someone to "stick in an envelope" are earned not given. And while you feel you have earned them, your posts here & in other forums indicate the only thing you did was show up. And I too, would like to know your course number. You should know it. Was what this Scout did wrong? Yes. Was what this Scout did a crime? Yes. If the BOR was stopped & the Scout denied rank that was the correct thing. There is no way this Scout demonstrated that he is living the Oath & Law in his everyday life. Your unit needs to deal with this so if it does happen again, you have a precedent set. Oh, BTW, if the Scout was allowed to advance at the BOR, something is really wrong. Ed Mori Troop 1 1 Peter 4:10

I think this is a hoot! Brian rants & raves about all the problems in the BSA & he completes (at least he said he did) his ticket & he wants his beads "stuck in an envelope & mailed to him". And he wonders why people have a problem with his rants! Is 300 documentable hours and $5000 spent enough to get the few critics who did not like my website to realize my leader's approval was not insane? No. 3,000,000 hours & $5,000,000,000 spent doesn't attest to anyones sanity except your own. What did you learn about this other culture or was this just a vacation? Foodservice legal?? Ya think that's really necessary? How many Lent fish fries are foodservice legal? I would agree a Pancake Breakfast or a Spaghetti Dinner is a lot of work, but the return is much better than selling popcorn. I wouldn't hold one monthly. Maybe twice a year. I'm well aware of the point Ed. I am offended by: 1) the equation of women to prostitutes which I find demeaning. I would agree it is demeaning. But it is just as absurd as thinking teaching someone how to use a weapon is creating a killing machine. 2) the suggestion that our best military leaders can't figure out a way to make their point in a public forum such as this supposed news interview, without resorting to vulgar and demeaning analogies. It may be vulgar but makes a great point. 3) the suggestion that a professional journalist who is also a female would ask such stupid questions to start with. C'mon guys, we're not all bubble heads. Can you seriously tell me that the same joke would "work" or be re-told if the role of "journalist" were male? I just don't think so.
