Ed, public schools aren't citizens; public schools HAVE no first amendment rights. School administrators have first amendment rights, but only as individuals; they cannot misuse their authority to have public schools follow their religious precepts. If public schools DID have first amendment rights, that includes freedom of association, right Ed? And that would mean that public schools could decide not to associate with Catholics and expel them, right Ed? Since public schools aren't citizens and have no 1st Amendment rights, how can the be in violation of 1st Amendment rights? And since public schools are owned by the citizens in their district, if the citizens voted to allow a BSA unit to be chartered by the public schools in their district, would that be OK? DanKroh, Menorahs are left alone while all Christian symbols must be removed. Christians want nothing more than a level playing field Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,..." And by not allowing a public school to charter a BSA unit is in violation of the prohibiting the free exercise thereof part. Schools can sponsor Bible clubs or Atheist clubs or Jewish clubs but can't charter a BSA unit? A blessed Good Friday to all. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Actually, Merlyn, you are the one spouting that public schools can't sponsor discriminatory groups. Using that skewed logic, any public school that sponsors an all-male or all-female choral ensemble is sponsoring a discriminatory group. And in what document does it state everyone has a right to belong to everything? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
-
Check out some public school district sites on the internet, Merlyn. I think you will find many school run clubs that are as "discriminatory" as the BSA. I'm not gonna do your research. Why? Because I don't have a problem with it. You do! Go get 'em big guy! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

So a public school can't (which I think is a bunch of phooey) charter a BSA unit or sponsor an Atheist Support Group. Only problem is schools sponsor all kinds of groups exactly like the BSA yet for some reason, Merlyn, you aren't going after them with the same vigor you are attacking the BSA. Why is that? Oh yeah, I'm not gonna do your research for you on those other discriminatory groups schools sponsor. You can do that yourself. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

And the difference between a public school chartering a BSA unit & sponsoring a Christian Bible study club is what?
-
Right on the money Gonzo! There is nothing wrong with a public school chartering a BSA unit. By doing so isn't promoting discrimination or any religion. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Well, considering the recent ruling in Chicago, things could change!

OUTRAGE! American Flag Removed from Scouting Museum
evmori replied to HarborScout's topic in Open Discussion - Program
I e-mailed the museum & got this response Thank you for your inquiry. The Grand Lobby area of the museum was recently re-configured to allow for more capacity seating, better event set-up, and smoother visitor traffic-flow. The installation and relocation of a new admissions desk affected the layout of the Fleur-de-lis centerpiece. The flags that you are referring to were built into this centerpiece, which was initially built to accommodate the old admissions desk. In the reconfiguration, the centerpiece underwent restoration and the flags were removed to balance the layout. The museum has freestanding Scouting American and International flags for display and use in the Grand Lobby area. Janice E. Urgent Prayer Request for a Scout

Serve actively has nothing to do with attendance and should not be defined as such. Serve actively will vary for each POR. Using attendance as a requirement defeats the purpose. If an SPL can't be at the next PLC, it's his responsibility to make sure one of his APSL's is ready to step up & lead the PLC. How he does this, not whether he was present or not, should be used to judge how he serves. We have removed boys from POR's. One was removed for lying. Showed up all the time. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

OK so let's dump the DRP & replace it with the Scout Oath & Law! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

pack, I would say your answer is wrong. The purpose of the second question was that Jesus never abandoned His principles so I don't think He wants the BSA to abandon Him. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

I know this is scary, OGE, but that's the exactly same thing that came into my mind! Why would all the e-mail need to go through the SM if a list-server is being used? Sounds a little Fahrenheit 451 to me! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
-
Do you really think God wants the BSA to abandon their principles and admit anyone? Did Jesus abandon His principles? I don't think so. Great passage that really affirms the BSA's position. Thanks Kudu. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Therefore, all name-calling whether it's a wink, wink, atta boy name or a flat out put-down is forbidden. In the past 15 years, this lack of name calling has not been a problem in our troop and we have great team work and respect for each other in the process. Zero tolerance policies for anything are just a poor way to deal with things. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

If BALOO and other such core training courses were included in basic training AND available on-line, I'd bet this would help eliminate the problem we are discussing in this thread. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Not sure what the meaning of diversity is supposed to mean in Scouting. Does it mean Scouting should appeal to boys across a wide spectrum or does it mean each unit that is primarily composed of white boys should have a boy of color in their unit? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Please provide an example where name calling is not bullying. "Hey goofball, please come over here!" Please also include what bullying is defined to be. To treat in an overbearing or intimidating manner. To make timid; fill with fear. (This message has been edited by evmori)

Please read what was posted! Not all name calling is bullying Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

While bullying should not be tolerated, not all name calling is bullying. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
