Merlyn, What atheist rights are being violated? Do atheists have different rights than I do? 1) The military doesn't hire Chaplin's unless they want baggy-pants silent comedians Yes they do. 2) Military chaplains have to serve ALL soldiers, not just the ones whose religious views they approve of Thought the military didn't hire Chaplin's? How does a military Chaplin serve an atheist? 3) There is never a requirement to swear on a bible in US law Yes I know but some judges require it 4) Public schools can't sponsor clubs that have religious requirements for membership, and I've never seen you even attempt to name an example (apart from BSA units, of course) Doesn't have to be religious. Could be for unwed mothers or chess geeks only. BSA units are not religious clubs. 5) attendance at congressional or other legislative prayers are never mandatory, although in the few cases I know about where a legislator walked out, it was always a Christian protesting some prayer given by a non-Christian Never said attendance was mandatory. And being a member of the BSA isn't a requirement for anything. If you don't like it don't join but no one is forcing you to do anything. I learn fine, Merlyn. That line is really getting old. You need some need material. Maybe you Firesign cohorts can help you out. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

The only one concerned about public schools chartering BSA units is you, Merlyn. What about the branches of the military hiring Chaplin's? Or Congress opening sessions with prayer? Or having to swear on a Bible in a court room? Or public schools sponsoring groups similar to the BSA? Ah but then again, the ACLU has never lost a high profile case to any of those. Only the BSA. And it looks like they could be on the verge of losing more! Maybe they will have to find someone else to pick on. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Let's ban tents, too! Someone could put an eye out with a tent stake! If properly trained, an axe is a very useful tool. Banning them is nothing more than the willingness to teach their proper use. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

District Has Set Limits (7-MBs/Counselor & Max 5/Eagle)
evmori replied to dluders's topic in Advancement Resources
The following is on the answer sheet for the quiz in the link OGE posted. A counselor may be approved for as many badges as he or she is qualified. Since this is up to the members of the approving body to decide, they also may decide how many merit badges they feel it is necessary for a counselor to coach based upon need within the district or council. Seems to say that whoever approves MBC's can restrict the number of badges one can counsel??? Seems contradictory what is in the Fast Facts section. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -
A boy can't be registered as a Cub Scout & Boy Scout at the same time. Once a boy completes the Boy Scout application, his tenure as a Cub Scout ends. He can no longer earn any Cub Scout awards or ranks. He is now a Boy Scout. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

1st the correct term is Webelos not WebsII or any other variation. 2nd once an eligible Webelos registers with a Troop he is a Boy Scout he can no longer earn the Arrow of Light which is a Cub Scout award. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

This is truly sad.

Scouting family in Stouffers commercial
evmori replied to fgoodwin's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Good video! Great promo for Scouting! Aw man, I hope the recent trademark flak doesn't go after this one! I'll bet no one thought of asking National if it was OK to wear their uniform! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -
Well in our Troop, behavior usually isn't a problem. If it is, the Scouts usually get a talking to, which can range from a "hey, just don't do it again" to a "one more time and I'll send you home" (although the leader who said that wouldn't have the gana to do it). If you aren't going to follow through with something, don't say it. If you say "One more time & I'll send you home" then be prepared to do it. If a Scout messes the kybo, he should have to clean the kybo. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Looks like they were gonna use a clove hitch! That ain't gonna hold 'em! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Yup sst3rd is correct. There is no "punishment" in Boy Scouts. Even though there is. Punishment is a consequence of certain behavior. We can call it anything we want but it is still punishment. We have always tried to have the "punishment" fit the reason why it is needed. That seems to get the point across a lot better. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

And Lambert would only be allowed to watch, he wouldn't gain the full benefits of attending as a scout. I have never been to Jamboree so I don't know what is available to the general public but I would think there is lots of stuff for Lambert and any other non-BSA member to participate in. Weak argument. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

The Beav is right on the money!

We don't do that in my council either. Glad we don't. Usually nothing is learned or earned but Scouts come away with a handful of MB's. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

District Has Set Limits (7-MBs/Counselor & Max 5/Eagle)
evmori replied to dluders's topic in Advancement Resources
They could enforce the Eagle MB requirement by insisting on seeing the actual blue cards (assuming they are used in that district). I thought of that myself but that would need to happen at the National level. I suspect that this whole thing arose out of an Eagle BOR in which a boy had a large number of MBs signed off by a single counselor. That's not to say it's a reasonable limitation, but you can easily imagine situations that might make leaders want to impose it. And this is a problem? I agree a Scout should use a variety of MB counselors but there is nothing I know of that says a Scout must use more than one MB counselor. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -
District Has Set Limits (7-MBs/Counselor & Max 5/Eagle)
evmori replied to dluders's topic in Advancement Resources
My district limits MB counselors to 10. National has no limit. How does the DE plan on enforcing B? No counselors are listed on the Eagle application, only the MB's & date completed? And why is the DE doing the District Advancement Chair's job? Both are in violation of National policy & should be considered unenforceable. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -
Dan is right on the money! You were assaulted and so was your son. Call the cops! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

I'm not gonna call a pig a swan. I will tell it like I see it. I'm that way in person, too. I was always taught honesty is the best policy. Sometimes, ya gotta toss diplomacy out the window! And ya always have to toss political correctness out the window! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

I've always been one of those "I ain't dancing around, I'm going head on" people. And that is usually the way I post. If I don't like something or I think you're full of horse stuff, I'm gonna tell ya. Is that not being courteous? Maybe. But it is being honest. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

We do not allow cursing by anyone. If the adults and/or Scouts don't comply, they are dealt with. You might want to find a new unit. Sounds like this one is nor going to change. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 A blessed Easter to all!

Students in a school district are, with minimal exceptions, minors. And it is my understanding that minors really have no rights. So how can their rights be violated? It might be worth trying to get something passed in a school district regarding allowing BSA units to be chartered by public schools in the district. hmmmmmmmmmm A blessed Good Friday to all. It would be great if RT were held outdoors for a cooking demonstration. Sure the techniques can be explained but there is nothing like seeing it actually being done. Hands on at any level are good. And by all means, include the Cub leaders! They will be amazed at how well a unit can eat on a camping trip! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
