The thing I disagree with is that the District was able to overturn (annulment?) the subjective decision of a Troop committee, even though there was no problem with the process. I would disagree, too. It seems too many Eagle BOR's like this get overturned because mom and/or dad make a stink, no because the original BOR was wrong. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

I think it's a little harsh but should a Scout who "couldn't keep it in his pants" be awarded his Eagle? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Bob White is a wealth of knowledge but he isn't always 100% correct. None of us is. Good question scoutldr! I think the reason it needs to be signed off for each rank except Boy Scout is so the SM & Scout sit down & have a chat about the Scout. And Scout Spirit isn't limited to Scouting activities - the requirement reads "in your everyday life" not "in your everyday Scout life. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Stosh, You are absolutely correct. By the time a boy reaches Webelos, he should be able to fend for himself more & mom & dad should back off more. It seems this doesn't happen & carries over to Boy Scouts. I think we need to remember that a Cub can earn the AOL without earning all the lower ranks while a Boy Scout must earn all the ranks before Eagle. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

jblake47, My point in Cubs parents are more directly involved that they are in Boy Scouts. How would he know to ask for a BOR or SM Conference? Maybe that is how his (and most) units handle it? Just a guess. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Earning the AOL & earning Eagle are not even remotely the same. AOL is a Cub award & parents are encouraged to be involved. Eagle is a Boy Scout award & parents are encouraged to encourage their sons. Big difference. How about not scheduling anything until the Scout asks for it! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

I'm with jr56. No money, no reservations. Our policy - Our credit manager is Helen Waite. If you would like credit, you need to go to Helen Waite. Now as to the $$$ you are out - if this Scout participates in your unit fundraiser, take what is due the unit off the top of his profits! If he doesn't participate add what is due to his registration fee for next year. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -
Again, Merlyn, you missed the point. Because an organization has religious requirements to join doesn't make the organization a religious organization. I assume Firesign Theater pays you to do their web site and you are an atheist. Does that make Firesign Theater an atheist organization because they have an atheist on the payroll? No. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

And what should have people expected when their kids joined a cub scout pack sponsored by their public school? Kick out atheists? At least two regular posters here who were in charge of school-sponsored packs have said they'd do exactly that. No one getting kicked out! If an atheist joined a Pack or Troop their membership would never be valid since they lied when they signed their application. Sorta like when one lies on a job application. You lose your job. How is sleeping with dad a violation of the Patrol Method? I agree the boys should be sleeping in tents with their patrol mates but not doing so violates nothing. Check the G2SS or Nationals site about Cubs camping with Boy Scout Troops. It is a no-no! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

There is nothing wrong with a dad & his boys sleeping in the same tent together. That said, others have asked excellent questions we need the answers to so we can go further. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

I am a Christian. Raised Catholic now Presbyterian. Denomination in name only. I believe the Bible is the completely factual word of God. Rules are in place to give order & ensure freedoms. Without rules there is chaos. Ethical & moral people will follow the rules in place & work to have those rules they feel are wrong changed or removed. All rules are interpretable. Just look at the 1st Amendment. Nowhere does it state the church & state should be separate, but it has been interpreted that way. How a rule is worded is just as important as the rule. Words like "prohibit", "ban", "forbidden" are much more effective than "should not" and "may not". Using the latter lends to interpretation where the former is more straightforward. Great topic Beavah! Thanks! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

I've told you before that public schools violate the rights of atheists by sponsoring no-atheists clubs. How does that violate your rights? Do you have the right to be a member of every club a school sponsors? No you don't. Neither do I. My rights would not be violated if an atheist only club was sponsored by a public school. Why? Because I don't have to join! And according to you, Merlyn, we have the same rights. WANTED - post writer for Merlyn. New material required. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

I guess I gotta spell it out for ya, Merlyn. How is the BSA violating an atheists rights? And the other question I asked you missed was Are atheists rights different from my rights (I'm not an atheist)? you just can't learn! you just can't learn! Would someone please get Merlyn some new material! He seems to be incapable of original ideas. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
