  1. The only thing scarier than FScouter's views is that FScouter is a Scouter and has young men whom he is influencing. What's next, gender cleansing? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  2. The woman in this case got herself knocked up So the assumption you are making, FScouter, is this woman was just having sex willy nilly & got pregnant. And you know this how? And BTW, I an a little offended in the terminology being used, "knocked-up" by FScouter, especially since this poster is a moderator. Seems a little crass to me. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  3. A child needs BOTH a mother and a father. A child is not a womans possession. Having a child is not a womans personal biological right. Having a child is taking on a huge responsibility to the child. It is selfish for a woman to get pregnant because she simply wants to have a baby, or to feel whole, or to satisfy her personal wants. Having a baby is a responsibility to bring the child to adulthood in the best manner possible. Intentionally attempting to do so without a father causes a whole slew of difficulties throughout the childs life. There should be no stigma for a rape victim to give up the child for adoption. Biology does not a parent make. The parents are the ones that love, nourish, train, and raise a child. A DNA connection doesnt have anything to do with this. Unless a rape victim can provide a father for the child too, the honorable thing to do is to give up the baby for adoption. Things happen to break up families sometimes, including the father being killed in war. The mother carries on. That is not the same thing as starting a babys life from the start with no father. Its not the best way to raise a child. It matters not to the baby whether its conception resulted from a woman choosing to get herself pregnant without a father, an accidental pregnancy where the male has no intention of sticking around, or from an act of rape. The end result is the same: a child with no father. The honorable thing to do is give the child a chance to grow up in a loving family with a mother AND a father. Satisfying ones personal desires at the expense of the child has no honor. There is much honor in giving up a child for adoption to provide the child the opportunity for the best family environment. This is even scarier! Reminds me of the way the Nazi's did things. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  4. An IMMORAL act can be made MORAL by performing some post infraction ritual? No. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  5. It is selfish, self-centered, and morally reprehensible to intentionally bring a child into the world with no father. You've got to be kidding me! You actually believe this? What do you base this opinion on, FScouter? And you are a Scouter & moderator on this forum. That's scary. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  6. I've been trying to condition the scouts that someday, campfires will only be a memory. Why? Campfires are one of the best parts of camping trips. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  7. If they want to, sure. Should they have to, no. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  8. Not a good role model in my opinion. Since she is now a single mother, would she have the time to commit to the unit? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  9. Isn't this what they are to be learning in their units? Short answer - NO! Long answer - NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  10. If he's still registered in the Pack, he is a Cub. If he meets the Boy Scout joining requirements & has registered with a Troop, he is a Boy Scout. If he is still a Cub, he shouldn't be going to a Boy Scout summer camp. He can't earn anything & actually can't do anything since he is still a Cub. If he is a Boy Scout, he can go to summer camp & earn stuff but he can't go back to the Pack & earn his AOL. Lisabob makes a good point about red flags in this unit. Something ain't Kosher here! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  11. I'd give 'em a chance to make it right. After all, we are called to rise above in situations like these. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  12. So mom's on the TC. Hmmm. Maybe a reminder that Boy Scouts is for the boys not the moms & dads. The moms & dads are there for support & guidance but the boys run the program & if her son isn't "with" the boys, he is missing out on valuable Troop & Patrol time with his unit. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  13. Excellent point wingnut! I'm not funnin' Gern. No one was fibbin'! Just playing the game. Integrity restored to government? And we are paying $3.00/gallon of gas why? Isn't W a big oil guy? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  14. The way I look at it, Gern, it's like selling your Buick. You want $5,000 so you ask $10,000 knowing you won't go below $5,000. I can hear the conversation now SWScouter. Scout 1: "Pee on it to put it out!" Scout 2: "Now we gotta feel it to make sure it's out!" Scout 1: "I ain't touchin' it! You peed in it! I ain't touchin' pee!" Scout 3 "Let's get outta here!" Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  15. Or maybe in reality, 6.5 will cover the entire thing! Could be the govt asked for more in case they got less. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  16. What would all you "keep your nose out of his bedroom" Scouters do? Again, the entire school knows about it, all the boys in the troop know about it. I'm not a "keep your nose out of his bedroom" Scouter. And maybe if someone had "kept their (parent) nose in his bedroom" this wouldn't have happened. You can't ignore it. It must be addressed. Sweeping it under the rug condones the behavior. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  17. I would sit everyone down & tell them the results of their decisions might force the ship to go into dry dock. While you don't need thousands in your coffers, $10 ain't gonna cut it. And aren't we, as adult leaders, supposed to be helping these young men to learn to make moral & ethical decisions? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Bobwhite = chicken in white tights! I'm a talon you, we're the EAGLES! NE-V-120 Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  19. An Eagle CoH can be anything the Eagle wants it to be. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  20. Sorry I couldn't give you a better answer Lisabob. But the answer depends on how much you already know & what your sources of information are. It also depends on your morals & ethics. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  21. I guess these are the questions. Ed, with respect, what does it mean to you to say that you'd "handle the situation appropriately?" What you find out from your investigation should determine how you will handle it. And exactly how would you engage in that investigation? You make this sound easy. Try to ascertain the facts. I never said it would be easy. And you might never get the whole story. Are these the questions I was called here to answer? And yeah I am a good guy! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  22. So let's just put a Scout who fathers a child out of wedlock on a pedestal & award him his Eagle because we don't want to make waves by asking questions. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  23. I am not advocating poking my nose into anyones business! In answer to all your questions, packsaddle, you need to make sure what you have heard is true. A little investigation can resolve that. Once you are sure you have the facts, you handle the situation appropriately. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  24. Prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law If we, as adult leaders, are charged with this, then how can we justify not questioning and/or investigating the circumstances around a teenager in our unit fathering a child? How is that ethical or moral? We seem to get caught up in things like uniforming & ignore what is really important. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  25. Sounds like it's time for a lesson on Thrifty, kraut-60. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
